Nikon vs. Canon

Ok. I'm looking to buy a new digi SLR camera. I'm leaning towards a Nikon D-70, and have heard Nikon kills canon. Please vent your opinions now about which is better, and please support it with a reason...

Nikon is the best. My dad is a professional photographer, and he likes Nikon.

Imagine the ns outcry if u(lateralis) were banned. There would be countless threads and petitions to bring u back, it would be like when treadway got banned from whistler. Someone would probably make and sell 'Free Lateralis' stickers and shit. -j

nikon hands down. Al of there cameras are compatable wit alll the nikor lenses. my dad has a 40 year old camera, and he can still buy brand new lenses.

THe names wasy better too

Nikon is the best. But they have different levels of affordibility. And nikkor lenses are much much better.

ignoring the nikon vs. canon the 20D is newer better camera than the D70. the D70 is more comparable to the canon digital rebel???(i know its called the 300D in the uk)

the 20D is just a more solid camera. easier control, better quality sensors, faster fps, the rebel is a better camera than the D70 (the regular rebel not the xt)

Nikon usually performs better than Canon, until you get up into the upper tier of their camera lines - F series and EOS series. But between those two camera's I would go with the 20D, they did alot of R&D with that camera, based the design off the 10D. It's a great camera for the buck. The D70 is a great camera too, but given the choice, I'd go with the 20D. Everything I've read about it, as far as professional reviews go, have been relatively positive.

Check out: www.popphoto.com and use their reviews to help you. There's a bunch of trusty sites out there that you use to help you along with the more techinical pieces and much more in depth comparison than you're going to get on NS.

i have a nikon n80 and a d70 and both work superbly. in the past i have not had good experiences with canon cameras.

it would be like a ford v6 vs chevy v8 then

it just depends what if u like the nikon style stuff or the canon options better, i personally like canon cause thats what im used to, if u buy a decent camera, u can get quality shots, don matter if its nikon or canon

Whatever camera feels better to you, and suits your style. Both cameras will produce amazing images, but it depends greatly on you, the photographer, and how you utilize each camera. I have a d70, and I like it, but given the choice, I think the 20d may be a slightly more advanced camera, but I don't know if you'd need all of its features.

This burrito is delish, but it is filling

go to a store and look at them. you are going to be using the camera for a number of years, it makes sense that you like to feel of it, no? i thought i wanted a rebel, until i held one and then held a nikon n80. the feel of a nikon is a lot better. now on to features. my n80 is solid, more shit than i can use. and yes, nikkor lenses are hot. get good ones, not plastic ones that will probably break. and the man at the store worked a number of years in new york city and he told me the only thing hed ever use was nikon, trusted them way more than canon. but both companies have good reputations so im sure either will be a solid piece of equipment.

Canon has been very proactive in the Digi world. If you are on a tighter budget I would even suggest the new Rebel XT 350D and spend a lot more on nice lenses. Then when you feel maxed out by the options on the XT then you can upgrade to a nicer Canon DSLR of the time. I really like the 20D and use it often at school. Dont spend all your money on a body and cheap out on lenses. I would say spend Half or even a third of your available money on a body. Then the rest on a couple nice Prime lenses, a tits battery grip, and some huge memory cards so you can go nuts.

In summery: CANON CANON CANON

IF you do buy a canon, then use Nikon lenses, I really don't think there is any dispute on which company produces better lenses.

^are you on crack? Why on earth would he buy nikon lenses for canon? Adapters and such would kill any questionable benefit that nikon may have. Canon makes some awsome lenses. The saying "you get what you pay for" work well with camera lenses. If you get prime lense (fixed compared to zoom lenses) you will get better optics at a lower price.

ALSO you should be aware of the 1.6 factor for many of the Digital SLRS. This mean you have to multiply the lens size by 1.6 to get that true lens size. SO a 35mm lens be a similar lens to a 50mm lens on film SLR. Dont know why they did this, but it is something to take note of when your buying lenses.

For superior optics, go with canon. The L Series lenses are world renowned for their crystal clear image quality and durability. The top choice of sports photographers and paparazzi from what I've heard and seen.

You are right. If you go to any sport's event. In the on-feild press box, all you see in those Canon lenses. Same with those crazy paparazzi.

But, at the moment, I'm leaning towards Nikon. But it's not like if you buy a Nikon, or a Canon, the quality won't be good. They will both be amazing.

Just like skis, there's a bunch of people saying shit about gear they've never used.

I use Canon stuff. I've got L glass. I'm happy.

But, I've never shot with Nikon. So I really can't give anything more than an opinion.

I like Canon because they're always leading the cameras...... like the D.rebel before the D70, the 20D long before the D70-whatever-the-new-one-is.

The only camera Nikon pulled off (that I've been following) well was the D100, which they've failed to upgrade for years.

I really don't know too much about Nikon though. I don't know shit about all these VG-AR-DC-Nikkor whatever lenses. Which is another reason I like canon.

All the lenses are either EF of EF-S with Canon. USM is a good drive motor. L is good optics. DO is shit I don't need. IS is stabilization, which I don't need either.

Now, go on http://www.bhphotovideo.com and do your research. And then buy what you think will work better for you.

For sure either is a great choice. Both are professional quality cameras.

Even higher end pentax stuff is good. Pentax is the Elan of photography. because everyone's parents have one of those M1 cameras or whatever from the 70s, they think that everything they make is cheap and bad quality.

I was thinking about that, and how much lenses were, but my dad said if i save up enough to buy a camera then he will buy a couple lenses for me. So I'm set. Now I just have to wait till mid summer to have enough $$

that whole bit about camera lenses on the side of sporting events, the only reason you said that was because of that olympics ad for canon.

Buy Nikon man, canon is like sooo 1998. Who needs resolution, massive lens selection, better prices and more advanced technology from a company that has 75% of the slr market in thier palm!

I have a Nikon X-90 and I quite enjoy it. I have used my dad's Cannon Rebel-X, and I would have to say I prefer the nikon. But that's just comparing 2 slr cameras, and my personal opinon.

Today's post has been brought to you by the letters B, Q, X and the number 13.

it's not just the ad. It's fact. Watch any professional sporting event. Just about 3/4ths of all the lenses are white (Canon). Basketball, football, motorsports, you name it...........

^^ Just make sure you catch the sarcasm there in Mike's post............. e-sarcasm just doesn't rival the real thing.
