i am currently all on nikon, flashes, a few lenses and a d5000

is it really worth switching over to canon, i like nikons layout but im thinking of buying a new (better nikon) so should i jump over to the canon bandwagon? 7d ...? and start my lenses all over again or go with the d7000 or d300s

you have lenses already... it would be stupid to switch over to canon. just wait until they put out a response to the 7D and thats your best option

You will not be disappointed with a 7d, but I heard Nikon lovers find the Canon interface weird.

are you guys crazy? dont you guys always say how quality primes are the first priority? she already has lenses! buying a canon would mean no good lenses for a while. look Im 100% a canon guy but making the switch would be stupid if you have lenses already. lenses are fucking expensive!

i think canon is a better way to go, but it would take so much time to get all the same lenses again.

oh and i dont think nikon will ever make a 7d comparison

if your lens all have manual aperture rings, just buy adaptors. if not, sell them and get canon equivalents and maybe just get a few less lenses then you originally had.

since e heath is now gone, I will take this oportunity to speak the truth in an asshole like manner.

yes nikon will make a response camera to the 7D, it will probably be better as a matter of fact. ( same can be said about canons next version of the 7D) now not only will making a new lens collection be long ( boo hoo) it will be expensive as fuck. your throwing away all of the money you spent on those lenses to go get a camera that is better quality but will get you lower quality shots ( LENSES ARE IMPORTANT)

STICK.

WITH.

NIKON.

Save yourself the money, please. Why go through all the effort? It really is a matter of opinion, there's not much else to it.

Are you doing all photo? Why then at all would you want to go Canon? Nikon makes the "better" lenses (again, arguable, but still) and if you don't need video, why bother switching? I think you're just asking for a hassle.

Most of NS

Awww it cut my post.

It was supposed to have an arrow pointing to the dick saying "Canon's dick"...

haha yea i was just thinking all the work it would be

however, nikon's bodies are a lot for what you get..

Yeah, I was planning on switching over from nikon and getting the T2i, then the D3100 came out and I'm stoked on it, plus I saved $100 and I get to keep all my filters and attachments without buying adapters or new accessories all together.

I'm in the same boat. But there is no way I'm going to sell over $1000 in lenses and body to get what? a little bit of a better body?

And is that "improvement" in photo quality worth it? I dont think so. I have a D90 and am making money on it. Just as much as I would be with a D300. If Nikon comes out with a D700 replacement I'll think about upgrading.

In the meantime, invest in lighting, lenses, and so on. For instance, i got pocketwizards and the additional lighting has made my photos far nicer than an upgraded body would.

I know, it's cool...nothing wrong with it. I sit on Panny's dick 24/7. However this is a photo thread, not a video one.

which is a little bit silly...

but seriously, I'd stick with nikon if you've already dropped the money for lenses

unless you have unlimited funds, in which case, 5dmkii and L glass for dayyyyyssss

Everyone's said it already, but if you have Nikon lenses, flashes, and the like, stick with Nikon.

I like it better anyway, NS is just made up of prostitutes who like Canon because it shoots video better.

Are you a videographer?

Yes: Wait for Nikon's version of the 7D. It'll come, and it'll be good stuff. You already have the lenses and everything.

No: Shoot on your D5000 until a 7D equivalent comes out. The D7000 might drop in price, or D300s might drop down. Or, you'll have saved up enough cash for the new one. It'll be better quality overall, and you'll be a happy camper with a camera layout that doesn't confuse you to bits and pieces.

i have nothing against canon, i am a nikon guy and have so much invested in nikon......

and.....i bought a 7d the other day. But only for video and i have to say only using one a couple times they could make a lot of things easier to use and more efficient.

I still love all my nikon glass, dont like the lineup for canon glass too much. and would rather use my nikon to shoot photos anyday.

I've been shooting video with my D3100, and it seems pretty much the same as the T2i...just saying, Nikon is stepping up their game in the video department as well.

Selling isn't that easy. you would be lucky to get 50% of what you paid for it. especially since the D7000 just brought down the used body prices for Nikon.

Just don't go recommending Canon with no basis for your judgment.

She wouldn't have as nice of lenses resulting in poorer quality photos whether its a canon body or not. your statement if full of ignorance.

In all honesty, it's not going to kill you to go either way from the start. Both brands produce great images and any differences are minor and a matter of taste.

However, it would be a complete waste of time and energy to sell a perfectly good Nikon kit you already own just for the sake of shooting something with a different logo. A good photographer spends their time learning about actual photography instead of wasting their time over a fucking logo.

Slandis knows. Nikon is objectively better... But it's mostly a matter of preference and skill. The best camera is the one that works best for YOU.

Don't bother switching. If you're going to spend a bunch of money upgrading bodies, go with a D700. A few friends have them and I've plkayed with them a bunch, they're fucking amazing cameras.

And this is coming from someone who has had Canons in his family all of his life.

I like this one best:

So this thread is split between the usual culprits: Nikon and Canon. To start with I shoot Canon (7D and 40D photos mostly) but I'll stay impartial. OP didn't state use of the camera, photo or video, and did not state what lenses. When it boils down to it for photos, they are the same basic thing! The big difference is layout and mounts. It all comes down to preference and what people start with, lenses tend to stay with someone even through body changes. Flashes will work with any brand so that is not a factor so much. And to address the Nikon 7D equivalent, Canon has better video and Nikon has yet to come up with something to rival the Canon video but it's bound to happen if they want to get a share of the HDSLR market. Nikon lenses being better is just marketing, nowadays both companies have good and bad lenses but so do 3rd party companies like Sigma or Tamron. Sorry for my jumbled thoughts but I don't feel like fixing it.

If you have quality lenses, you should be able to sell them for around the same price you bought them. I personally know 4 professional full time photographers and every one of them uses Canon. Does that mean Canon is better? No. Nikon is amazing too. It's mainly just a personal preference. Although, Canon's "L" series lineup, is unbeatable. So in my opinion, Canon FTW.

Choosing between Nikon and Canon is a load of crap. I've taken great pictures with both, and complete shit pictures with both. I'm shooting a T2i right now simply because of video, otherwise I would have gone Nikon because I have a bunch of old Nikon glass. You really cant loose either way...

Nikon D7000.
Not sure why no one else has recommended this yet...
slightly disappointed in the amount of Canon fanboys saying to get Canon "just because".

I was pretty excited about the D3100 hopefully giving the t2i some competition, but then I heard that it the 1080 mode only offers 24p, and 60p isn't to be found anywhere. It does not even have shutter speed control during video recording.... :(
