i am thinking about upgradeing my cam set up soon i want to know some inputs should i go with nikon or a canon ? i have hurd good about both i would just like to know fellow NS'ers input thanks guys

i personally wish i went with canon after i got my nikon. the video on it is rediculously good. plus colors on canons are so vibrant its just silly

Brand is not the issue. Go try them out, see which one YOU like better and then decide on that and which specs are more important to you.

I just got a d5000 a few days ago and so far it is really sick, the articulating screen is pretty useful and makes low angle shots much easier, no lying on your stomach. The d5000 also shoots video at 1280x720, but only for 5min. I really like it, but as stated above try them out to see what you like.

I'm going to be real biased and say Canon. But standing back from things, Canon lenses always have had the reputation of the greater quality, better bokeh, and resiliant colors. My Nikon friends say that the only reason they'd move to Canon would be for the lenses.

Really? Because I know many pros that have canon bodies and use nikon lenses. I would say nikon lenses are superior and canon bodies are always a step ahead.

I had a Nikon D40 for my first DSLR but have just upgraded to the Canon EOS 5505 purely for the extra 1080p video function and mic compatibility. Nikon takes pretty sick pictures too though. Depends what you really want to do with the camera

ya same i heard that the nikon lenses were the shitbut the t2i and 7d are both ridiculous. Nothing fomr nikon can compete

I think thats because nikon lenses are less expensive, you can just buy an adaptor and shoot on cheaper lenses

Could be but if you're spending $2,300 on a lens, you might as well spend an extra few hundred and buy your brand. It's all preference though. Neither is better.

yah I agree for lenses at that price but when your broke as shit and you have to save up for a 500 dollar glass its worth switching brands

thanks every one for the input i am going to be shooting pics with it not vid so i am not to worried about the vid cuz i got a buddy that i send all the people tht want vids to him an he sends pic ppl my way but i guess it would be nice to have the option of shoting the vid to tho yet again thanks every one still looking for some input so fell free to post

Personally, I love all my Nikons, I've had 2 DSLRs, 2 point and shoots, and have given my girlfriend 2 nikons as gifts as well, I really have no reason to say that Nikon is better than Canon, I just know how to use them and I'm used to them and don't feel that the quality is worth me switching over and re-learning how the camera works. I have used my friends Canons and they are very nice, but I just don't know how to work them as easily. Again, this is personal opinion, but I really just don't see that much of a difference, yeah, some are better than others, but each have their own good models and bad models for what they do. I feel that Nikon is more user friendly and easier to handle, while Canon has slightly nicer quality and colors but are a bit harder (at least for me) to use well.
HOWEVER, I will ONLY use Canon for Manual SLR (not digital), because that's what I've always used and I love the picture quality I get from them.

That was taken with my D40.

does not look bad at all gonna wait for some one to post something shot with a canon so i can compair but thank u +k for u bro

of course, click to make bigger/better quality, cause the "in thread" image is pretty crappy.

Depends on what type of lenses you're after. Nikon make much better ultrawide lenses than Canon.

I'm also not too sure about this greater quality thing. With a Nikon camera, you're free to use over 50 years worth of quality lenses, with Canon you're stuck unless you want to start using adaptors.

Nikons also tend to have much better low light sensors, and their full frame DSLR's are cheaper.

If you want to use video capabilities though, go with Canon.

And by the way Flash, I have the same shot that you have of this kid from underneath... I was there haha, I'll sift through and see if I can find that shot lol.

they are both top notch quality.

I personally prefer nikon, but if i was you i would try to go to a camera store and actually hold the camera and play around with the different brands for a little while and see which one you like the feel of more.

It is going to be very difficult to tell quality differences by random shots, but i'll take the chance to whore out some of my shots

My flickr is in my sig, that is kind of proof to it being hard to tell quality by random shots, some are shot on very nice setups. nikon d2x, and some on a cheap canon point and shoot.

But in the end you will get a great camera with either brand, just pick the one that feels the best to you
