Nikon D90 and vivitar?

I got a d90 for xmas (STOKED!), and i got a 35mm nikkor lens, and i have had this old auto vivtar 200mm 1:3.5 lens that i wanted to attach and use as a telephoto. I don't know anything about converters especially since this lens is kinda old i think. My dad was given it as a gift from a friend a little more than 20 years ago.

vivitar makes mounts for different cameras, Im guessing you tried and it doesnt mount? Im not sure that there are mounting adapters, even if there is, a better one is probably more expensive than the vivtar is worth..

i don't know where to buy it and what one to buy. I googled it and i don't know anything about them, and i don't want to drop $70 on a lens converter that might not work

if its that old chances are that it doesn't autofocus. if thats ok with you, thats fine, but for sports and stuff it will be tough to use. also, if it does autofocus, make sure that with the adapter, it will still autofocus.

dude why are you being so fucking defensive. Its an old piece of shit vivitar lens, just go buy a kit zoom and I can guarentee that $150 lens will be way better than that vivitar.

not necessarily

some old vivitars hold their own

but this isnt true about their tele range lenses, from what ive heard

ive never owned on personally

id say check a camera store. this is the kind of categorizing knowledge they tend to have that we probably don't.

chill buddy im trying to help. you seem to not know what your doing so try not being defensive when people give you help and you'll get some answers. and, what i said is very relevant - if you want to be able to autofocus then you need to get a converter that allows for that. i have no idea if it autofocuses so im putting that info in the post just incase it does.

you said that all the help i gave you is irrelevant. defensive was the wrong word, my bad. it makes you sound like a jackass.
