ok, im thinking about a HDSLR (or whatever) camera... i shoot nikon, so i dont think ill switch over. (someone educate me on the nikon vs Canon ONLY THE VIDEO please)

this body seems pretty dope, any nikon HDSLR guys out here with any tips. shot with this camera?

or if im gunna spend this cash should i just get a normal video camera not a HDSLR

 
The only nikons that have decent HD recording are the d3100 and d7000 at 1080p24 and 720p30 which is weak when the t2i shoots 1080p24/30 and 720p30/60.
 
this,,,if you have the money, get a t2i, im sure you wont regret it, the d7000 isn't bad. But if your thinking about filming more, misewell invest into canon.
 
theres no way you should be buying this camera body if you have to ask any sort of question. I'm not hating but if you say "it seems like a pretty dope camera" you need to figure what it really is not what it "seems"

The D3s is a wonderful full-frame camera body, meant for super fast paced pro level shooting. The video feature on this camera was practically an afterthought, it's like a "it's there, but only just in case you reallllllly need it" sort of thing. There's no reason for you to get this camera if you're interested in being able to do a lot of video too.

Save your money and wait for a D700 replacement. It will be here soon enough, and I think (hope, pray, etc.) that the video features will FINALLY be able to compete with Canon's. Although, who knows.
 
although, it's looking like you won't be able to get your hands on one for about a year.
 
I'm planning on ordering an 800 the minute the add to cart button exists. So they better be!
 
nikons fiscal year ends march 31 so maybe if they are planning on starting with a good profit after the new year they will release it right after that

just sold my D700 and now waiting for the D800, cant wait!!!
 
All the rumors are saying August... which is ok because I won't have money for a new body till then, so I won't feel like I'm missing out. haha.

It would be sweet to see them in March though, to know what they are going to be doing.
 
ahha yeah i hear ya, im waiting for the d7000 to go down in price a little because right now i dont have a nikon body : (
 
I check nikonrumors almost everyday and it's driving me crazy. I might have to opt for the D400, actually I'll probably buy whatever comes out first.

what's everyone think? should I step up to FX?
 
Duh. they will probably be announced within a week or two of each other, and you're not going to get it for another 4-6 months after that anyways. haha.
 
I don't know how I would feel about the rumored mirrorless being put into the D800. but I guess it's just a rumor. this wait is killing me
 
if you're not too invested in your nikon equipment you might want to think about switching over. everything everyone is saying is true and the nikon 800 is going to most likely be a fantastic camera with competitive video capabilities, however, that will be right about the same time the canon 5D mark III will be arriving... and if you remember the mark II was the body that began the whole HDSLR race and is still arguably the best HDSLR on the market so I'm sure you can imagine what the mark III will bring.
not to mention the D3X costs more than double what a mark III will cost along with a T2i just to hold you over until it is released.
 
ok fuck the D3s, its shit and overpriced they are selling the shitty video feature. the high iso would be key tho...

If i am to get up to fullframe (which is why im looking at this camera) ill just grab an old D3 or D700 off a gearhead who is buying the D3s or another new camera nikon comes out with.
i just wanted to see what ppl were saying about its video, then i realized it was like 720p and 24frames. fuck that.

i have the D300 right now, its sweet. so now its the invest in full frame body and lens stage... i dont think so just yet, i need a better job and be going somewhere with my photography before i do that.

when i made this thread i was very uninformed about the topic. (i know the cameras just not the video shit)

Call me a noob, but I use a D5000 and I like it.
Its not as High Quality as the t2i, but its a good camera for filming.
As I get more and more serious about this stuff, I'll probably end up saving up for a Canon, but until then, the D5000 is working really well for me.
 
yeah def, a lot of people are selling their d700's right now and getting ready for the D800 and D4's
 
march 31 is the end of nikons fiscal year so maybe they will come out then to start off the new year positive but you never know
 
Hopefully. But it's looking more and more like it may not be till August. I don't mean to be pessimistic (I'm hoping for March too... haha) but it might not happen till later.
 
haha yeah and the new products are only really known to be released a couple days before it actually happens. Blahhh i wanna see what they are coming out with. they have also been patenting some weird things lately
 
its more that i have 2 SB-900s and 3 nikon FlexTT5 PWs then some little junk for only nikon.
the lenses are not much of a deal i have a 50 prime and a 16-85 (which is the best lens ever)
 
i have this lens too and i love it for a walk around. not the best ever though..the 14-24 f2.8 takes that imo haha
