Search barred and nothing. I have decided to pick up photography due to the fact that I can't ski anymore, and a friend of mine has offered me a good condition D3000 body for 125$ and i plan on getting an 18-55mm lense. I have 2 questions:

How does this camera hold up has far as shooting skiing/skating?

What other lenses should i purchase?

$125 is definitely a really good deal. it'll be perfect for you to learn on and once you want to upgrade, your lenses will still work. i'd definitely recommend the nikon 16-85 for a do it all lens.

definitely a good deal. I got a d3000 2 years ago and love it. no experience shooting skiing/skating though.

I have a nikor fisheye, love it but I think it runs 750 brand new (I got mine off here for $450)

$125 is def. a good deal, and you can replace the body with a better one whenever you feel the need to.

The 18-55 is decent. The 16-85 is better, and the 17-55 is much better (as the prices reflect).

If you are short on cash you can work with primes. 35mm f/1.8G is a gem. 85mm f/1.8G costs a little money but it is incredible. For a fisheye, the Samyang/Rokinon/Bower/Opteka 8.5mm is decent. The Nikon is much better but a bit expensive.

I use a D3000 in photography class at school, and I really like it. All the school ones have 18-55's I'm pretty sure, and they are decent quality, so are the pictures.
