Nike 6.0 is dead!

Lately I heard a bunch of rumors that Nike is going to stop the whole 6.0 program. Than I read a bunch of articels on BMX websites that this is realy going to happen. Their plan is to focus an Nike Skateboaing and Nike Snowboarding. They also plan on to keep focusing on surfing. Were does that leave the skiers? Because they did some good things for skiing... sponsored a bunch of events and movies. Put up a sick team and some cool product etc.

Seems like they are gone. I'm pretty sure it will be snowboarding, skateboarding, bmx and surf. I'm not super surprised that they are not focusing on skiing, they never really seemed to have put much effort into our sport besides sponsoring athletes. According to an article on n-sb.com Nike also stated that they will still work with "wake boarding, moto and BMX."

I'm not really that bummed about nike dropping skiing, the reason that they got into action sports was to make money. I prefer to support brands that actually get involved in the product creation for certain sports because they themselves want to give something to the community. Just my thoughts though.

As shallow as it sounds I feel like having a company with as much cash flow as Nike would actually be good just for the fact that there's so many talented kids out there unrecognized and a company with as deep of pockets as Nike could definitely bring a lot of opporatunitys to a wider group of people...not saying that's what was happening or what they planned on doing, but wishful thinking haha

the third video is an example of how its dead, that is the most recent ad and there is no 6.0. Theyre continuing out the 6.0 contracts then its done man.

I wonder if Oakley will take jossi back haha. Makes sense though aside from having the team they didn't seem to do much with skiing

Yeh exactly theres not many companys out there with endless supplies of money it would of been great to see that happen but we can only dream hopefully one day as a previous guy stated some company might throw some money this way upcoming/during winter olympics

Nike 6.0 is dead but the extreme sports program is not. They are just renaming it and restructuring it.

they have always had jossi, and still have him for goggles and eyewear. they will probably just give him a higher level of sponsorship for outerwear, unless he can find another company.

at the end of the day its better to have companies that actually give a shit about skiing than huge corporations that would and ultimately always do pull the plug as soon as the bottom line starts to waver

Positive: company with infinite money supports free skiing, new opportunities

Negative: they're just in it to make money and don't care about the community?

Side note: I want some Nike ski boots, get on that

The interesting thing that happens is when a brand like this who is ultra marketing-savy comes into a segment... they realize that they do have to care in order to appeal to that particular part of the world.

So I'll admit, Nike has been pretty rad with NS, as I'm sure that they have been pretty fantastic to their athletes. Corporation or not, they definitely throw support in this sports direction.

I can see from a profit standpoint the drop in skiing. their products aren't directly involved in our sport in the same way they are involved with other sports. they aren't delivering the necessities equipment wise to skiers, so it makes sense to rebudget towards the sports that "need" their products a little more. definitely stoked for what they did for us though, no need to trash them. they put a lot of money and effort in a lot of great things and great skiers throughout our industry.

Honestly I think this is going to be just another Nike fail. IMO the 6.0 brand was fine for covering all the action sports. To call it Nike action is pretty generic and sounds ultra gay. That's Nike for ya though, missin the boat. It's like their sudden "oh yeah" moment to finally start jumping into the action sports market a few years back. Reminds me of those fifty somethings or ten yr old kids who think they're hardcore cause they snowboard now. Missin the boat. It's whatever. I actually do hope they drop the ball cause they're a crap company in alot of aspects. I've had nothing but bad experiences when dealing with their customer service and it's like a 50/50 chance you'll either get bombproof product or complete shit that falls apart day one. Plus they've got a crappy track record of human rights abuses and grossly negligent polluting. Yes it would be nice if they used their resources to help progress skiing but don't hold your breath folks. They're still recently starry eyed with how "tre kewl" snowboarding and skateboarding is when they should have they're eyes on skiing right now. I've had six snowboard friends switch to skiing in the last two seasons. No shit. And every time they say that skiing looks way more challenging and technical these days. So Nike is like your dad just finding out about facebook when you've already moved way past that ya know?

this is was sammy carlson had to say when he did the fb q&a. I asked " what is the inside word on why there was so little skiing in the "chosen" trailer and what is the long term plans for 6.0 after rumours that nike are getting rid of the 6.0 brand and focusing more on other sports other than skiing?" he replied with "NOT true at all nike is not forgetting about skiing at all," and "The 6.0 brand will no longer be around, Nike will continue to be involved with skiing and all the brands 6.0 focused on but it grew to such a massive scale they are bringing it back to just Nike". he didnt answer my question on the chosen but verified that they are re-structuring.
