Night Skiing

Ok, so I normally like night skiing but tonight was a little different. It all started when my buddy Rob (ghost920) and I decided to head up to the local hill, regardless of the slight rain. Our hill isnt too far away only about 45 mins so it isnt too bad. But of course I get up there and me being the idiot I am wore my old pants without my pass in it. So i went to the office and got that taken care of. The guy who is head of the resort told us that the lifts would be shutting down in a hour to 2 hours. So we get out there and try to make the best of it. After about an hour or so of skiing, and hiking the park for a while, we decided to take a couple more runs and head home. We got about half way up the lift and what do ya know! the lights shut off, and the lift stops running. We just look at each other and are like wtf they should be open for another half hour or so. So we sat on the lift for about half hour or so and the lift meraculously turns back on, but no lights. So we decide its finally a good time to head out. We found out at the gas station across the road that it was just the power that went out and not them shutting the lifts down.

Overall, a pretty good night. Anyone else get the lifts shut off on them or had the lift shut down on them?

ahahahaha never had that happen to me but sounds nuts...nightskiing is the best cant wait till the 18th when it opens.

holy shit...i hope that doesnt happen to me next time i go there
shit, now im going to be thinking about that every time i hit the peek at night

i go night skiing almost more than day skiing since i live 6 minutes away from my home mountain, and that has happened to my friends, they were on the lift and the power went out for like an hour, it would be mad scary with no lights

that's happened to me, but each time during the day. one time when i was really little though, my brother and i were in ski school at our home mountain and it was our last run. We get on the lift, and almost to the end, but the power shut down and a huuuge storm started. so, obviously we were scared because we were like 7 on a super slippery lift without a bar (we used it then) and even at the near end, it is reallly high above the ground. eventually, it just started to work again though.

also, kinda unrelated, but also when we were in ski school, a couple of my friends went on a lift called thunderbird that was really old, and in the middle, the weights broke off and the lift dropped to the ground. fortunately, nobody was hurt, but everyone definitely got the shivers.
/story rant...

haha...similar story...

coldest day of the year in blue knob pa after a snow storm. a decent day skiing until i get on the lift to go to the lodge to warm up. half way up the lift stopped. two hours on the lift in 10 degree weather chillz you to the bone. after we got to the top we had to call it a day cuz we were so cold....

out west is sick but the true skiiers are int he east cuz we brave the cold, sleet, rain and ice and still love it. all i got to say is stick it out and call it a good memory

yea ive been there. long time ago when i was like 7, night skiing on what was then my favorite chair (now long gone, good riddance), the chair stopped. for a couple of minutes i sat there fine, then it started again. i thought nothing of it. then it stopped pretty much instantaneously, and thus began the roughly hour long wait till that fucker fired up again. i was so damn scared that i was going to freeze to death or something.

never had the honor of being lowered off a lift, but ive seen it a couple times. that would be pretty badass.

Some of the best pow shreds I've had have been at night on runs with no lights. Skiing by moonlight is pretty rad. You know the runs so well, yet you cant see exactly whats coming. Pretty fucking cool rush.

As for being stopped on the chair w/o power. Never had that happen. Been stuck for 1/2 hour or longer due to extremely high winds but never power failure. It's a pretty bad feeling.

No it was the highest point of the lift of course, but I seriously would have just sat there all night, plus then we get the first chair.

Hahah yeah it was, we had to scream to each other goin down the hill cause we couldnt see where each other was, it was pretty rediculous.

yeah, i was at Wisp in MD one time goin down a run when the lights on the entire mountain just shut off. pretty intense when you're not expecting it.

thats so crazy.. my friends were stuck on the lift for a couple hours one night and i was throwin them up gronola bars cause they said they would die of hunger.. funny times

Yeah that was freshman year when it was really icy out, didnt they just shut down after that.

My mates and I were stuck on the chair for 20mins when the cable dropped off. they moved it forward so we were the 3rd last chair. So my friend asked if we could jump off the lifty said yes. As we were skiing off head of lifts rocked up who saw us as we jumped off and cracked it at the lifty who told us to jump off. But the rest of the people were stuck othe lift for another 30mins before they could get off. First run of the day so we had the run to ourselves.

over here in VA we were riding a lift up at Wintergreen one time and the thing just fucking stopped...for like 45 minutes...they finally got it running again on auxiliary power, but it took another 20 minutes to reach the top...then we couldnt even ski any more because the lifts were dead, they were ferrying everyone from the lift lines to their cars on snowmobiles...sooooo gay
turns out there was an ice storm, and the resorts around here are so stupid that they get their power from a single power line running down the valley, with no backup options...the ice took the line out, and the operation shut down completely for the day
just another reason i cant wait to get the fuck outta here forever next week

This is one way to do it watch at 4:50

wow that dude is insane! i personally would not have jumped to the wire, i would have walked/crawled over the wheels instead... but wow.

crazy stuff. i might just add... i like to night ski

crazy, but you'd think that the mother would have just let the child go if she obviously wouln't be able to easily get back in the chair

Once last year the lift broke down while I was on it (day skiing) and they had to call the power company to come get it working again.
