Nick Goepper is doing an AMA on Reddit right now. Unfortunately he is ignoring most of the top questions such as, "Why do you throw rocks at cars?" "Do you smoke a lot of weed?" and "Do you see the irony between your love of gas guzzling trucks and the destruction of the environment you play in?" But if you scroll all the way to the bottom you can read some of his answers to some of the more tame questions.

There's a handful of accounts that were created for this AMA to ask softball questions.

Pretty disappointing overall, both from the heavy hate he's getting and his half assed one word answers.

I wonder if the US ski team is forcing him to do this.

Makes you feel bad for the guy

Yep, he has definitely made some questionable decisions and not a super likable personality but he shouldn't have to deal with this.

I agree especially since I'm sure the whole thing was the Olympic team's idea

But can you really blame Reddit? They hate clumsy attempts at AMAs by PR teams. He posted an AMA without any good explanation or title, gave half ass answers to about 5 softball questions (that look like they were posted by puppet accounts), and that's it. What's the expected reaction? It was objectively a truly terrible attempt at an AMA

I would like to hear this answer.

"Since you seem to have a vested interest in both your home state and former governor, and have met him and expressed general elation about him, I'd like to ask you a few followups.

What are your thoughts on Pence cutting access to HIV treatment and testing funding and causing a massive HIV outbreak in the state of Indiana during his tenure as Governor?

Source

What are your thoughts on him slashing public health funding to under $13/person/year, bringing Indiana to the bottom 5 on both overall State and Federal public health funding, CDC per capita, and HRSA per capita, despite the state being a leader in Infant Mortality, smoking, obesity, and heart disease?

Source

What are your thoughts on him signing some of the most restrictive abortion legislation in existence into law?"

yeah feel bad for him, how dare these people ask him straightforward questions

Well they are mostly pretty loaded questions hating on him.

However, if Martha Stewart can answer questions about jail time in her AMA, Nick can answer some about a little rock tossing.

Everyone's being assholes on the AMA, but there are also a ton of well deserved callouts.

"I love trucks!" - okay, fuck you too then

big mistake testing the trolling power of reddit. Nothing surely backfires like creating throwaway accounts to ask yourself your own softball questions. WTF was his PR team thinking?

Jesus fucking christ, but hey it's reddit which is full of a bunch of neck bearded losers so what did they expect... Speaking of reddit have any of you been to r/skiing much lately, fuck man.

Newschoolers has always had a stigma about Nick Gopepper, but the fact that Reddit members who have no clue who he is have jumped on the same wavelength as lot of members on here clearly says something about the guy...

I'm not convinced that his "team" created this accounts. It could easily be fans of his on other social media that saw a chance to interact with him and simply created accounts to do so.

As for the rest of it, yeah I mean...I just don't see what is particularly interesting about him to warrant an AMA. I think some of the negative shit and over the top questions are pretty childish and dumb though.

This whole thing gets a big yawn outta me and that is about it

I just dont understand why they hired a 4 year old to write his sign for him.

Or possibly floyd mayweather?

Anyway heres a template to get this thread going

The two things you don't understand are directly linked. The AMA was a poor attempt at PR by people who don't understand what they were working with (which is kind of inexcusable given that reddit is a massively popular and well known site...do your homework, PR people). This exact thing happens all the time, which is why it was picked up on so quickly by the people on the site

AMAs can be really cool and interesting-- go find (google) Val kilmer's or Gordon Ramsay's, for good examples that come to mind. Really robust and genuine responses to questions thrown at them, not five word answers to "what is the Olympic village like? Go nick!" and shit like that. It's roughly analogous to when people post on here about those "sponsor me" sites that are just cheap bullshit sales sites. It's been done many times and it's really easy for Reddit to see through when a PR team thinks they stumbled on a quick free way to get exposure and they get responded to accordingly haha

I like how people go "oh it's just reddit trolls" knowing damn well it's people from NS over there being dicks. I love how this sport goes out of it's way to eat itself.

Obviously trolling is funny, but when you do it in our small freestyle skiing community and the hate isn't overwhelmed by appreciation it's just sending a "fuck you" to a dude that helped paved the way for a very large aspect of our sport. I'm not going to kiss Nick's ass but what exactly is it y'all would like to see from him? He's just a humble skier who's trying to ski as much as he can and keep his life on the straight.

"okay Nick you got your letter ready?"

Skiing would be exactly the same if geopper never existed.

Yes he should. He made the post.

not that money or lack of should define someones character, but I'm curious if this post from this thread on reddit is truthful?

"His dad was layed off when he was a teenager growing up at one of the shittiest places in the Midwest. He payed for all of his skiing by himself. Then he got good enough to be able to win a scholarship to windells academy. He has won multiple x-games gold medals and took home bronze at Sochi 2014. He fucking earned his privilege. But leave it to Reddit to go rip him apart for some dumb shit he did at 19. I've personally met Nick several times and the amount of hate he gets is extremely unwarranted. He's a very down to earth guy and I hate to see Reddit treating him like complete shit. The police and victims had absolutely no idea who broke their windows. Nick at least had the character to step up and admit he had fucked up.

But nooo everyone on Reddit is completely infallible and never did regrettable shit during their teens. Grow the fuck up. You're probably just jealous Nick earned a better life than you."

the reddit hive mind immediately attacked it and it has almost 40 down votes

I think nick goepper is one of the most boring skiers for me to watch and his style is completely uninspiring to me, and i know im not alone in thinking this

that said why would you waste an ama posting dumb memes that have been run into the dirt already when you could, you know try and figure out why he skis the way he does, what his perspective on his style is, etc.

LOL I find it hilarious that Goepper literally begs for exposure in series like Trollin' but can't handle the most basic questions from trolls. This kid is such a tool. I hope everything goes bad for him because he's such an industry fuck boy.

I mean shit the US team just forced his ass to get flamed by people who have fucked up more shit in their lives in a year than nick has in his life. Sure im not crazy about the guy but he is nice enough and can ski so why explore it more than that. People just think all skiers are rich assholes and they want to be one. The whole thing gets under my skin for some reason.
