im aussie, and when I lived in the states the bloody teachers tried to get me to actually recite the pledge. they spent weeks trying to force me to do it, till they threatened to suspend me untill I agreed to recite it. got my folks to come in and give them hell.

im not american, so why should i pledge to your flag?

i wouldn't even stand up for it, because the american flag holds no meaning to me, so it would be against my beliefs to honour it

you can't force this shit on people, if they want to stand, let them. if they dont, mind your own business

Well... we didn't use to sing the "O Canada" at my high school. In fact, I remember the last time I heard it was at the USA-Canada hockey pre-game where the singer forgot the american anthem, ran away, came back with the words but slipped on the ice and cracked her head on the ice. Man, I laughed so hard that time although, when I think about, I didn't hear the anthem then.

That was kind of off-topic, but to the guy who originaly posted this thread, you could declare your unconditional love for her, but I would urge you to reconsider marriage: do you really want to give her 50% of your life in two or three years, when you'll divorce?

I live in a place far far away, where on occasion the telly tubbies will come to play....and that's when Ma gets out the shotgun. Damn critters climb in our gutter system all the time.
 
shit, the only time we have to even stand for it is on days like rememberance day and stuff like that, theres one girl in my school that sings it for everyone, and has for years, and the school band plays for her
 
wow this is an old thread. i think the guy is gone, and we totally got off on a tangent about patriotism. classic newschoolers.
