Oh the leafs.. I'm a huge hockey fan but have never heard of Baun..
No hockey player is tougher or will never be tougher than Maurice "Rocket" Richard.
In game 7 of the 1952 Stanley Cup semifinals vs. the Bruin, early in the game, Richard took a two-handed stick swing to the face knocked him out on the spot.
He woke up in the locker room, super groggy, laying out on a trainer's table with a bunch of stitches in his face.
He immediately got up, stumbled back up the tunnel, took a seat on the end of the bench, and asked the dude next to him what the score and the time were, since his post-concussion vision was so blurry and fucked up he couldn't read the scoreboard.
As soon as Richard heard it was a tie game with only a few minutes remaining, he went over the boards, got into the game, took the puck, faked out a defender, and scored the game-winning goal with a bandage still strapped to his face, sending his time to the Stanley Cup Finals. The concussion Richard suffered was so intense that the next day he didn't even remember the game.
Maurice would tell later:
«J'ai compté ce but par instinct. Je ne me rappelle pas de rien, sauf la formidable ovation de la foule. Mes jambes étaient solides, mais j'étais complètement étourdi. Je n'ai pas eu connaissance de mon but.»
"I scored that goal by instinct. I dont remember anything aside from the huge ovation from the crowd. My legs were strong but i was completely dizzy. I was not aware of my goal (or i dont remember scoring a goal)."
WHAT A BEAST
