NHL Off-season Thread

I wouldn't be surprised if Hossa comes back home to Atlanta.

We have a ton of cap space and would be very willing to offer him 7 years 70 mil, or even up to 11 mil a season.

He wants to play the mkt and i doubt anyone would offer him more than 10 mil a year.

July 1st!

Colorado just signed Tucker, 2yr 4.5mil, Florida sign cory stillman to 3 years 10.5mil

Canucks offer Sundin a two year deal worth 10 million per season.

...

What the fuck. He`s 37 years old. He would be paid MORE THAN SIDNEY CROSBY. What the hell is Gillis thinking?

That said, we also put out an offer sheet to David Backes for 2.5 per season, which I'd be very happy with if it goes through. Blues have a week to match. I assume they will, but hey, at least he took a shot.

Oilers trade pitkanen for cole, good trade for EDM.

Jeff Finger to the Leafs = worst. signing. ever. TO is retarded.

Rolston turned down 3 years 4.5mil per year from T-bay and is testing the market.

Gillis is crazy for offering that much.

Rolston made a smart move, he probably wants to sign with tampa and play with all the superstars but this will drive his price up

gillis has the media and the fans guns pointed at his head...

so far he's signed nobodies, and made a ridiculous offer on a piece of history

Brian Campbell just signed an 8 year 56.8 million deal with Chicago... f*&^

Backes resigns with St. Louis... so so much for that little ray of hope. Now we're fucked. All we can say is, "Well, at least we fucked the Leafs right in the ass, and their response was to sign Jeff Finger."

Rolston is reportedly about to sign... somewhere. Preferably not T-bay, though. I would love it if the lightning failed miserably next year after getting 6 new forwards, a new D-man, new goalie, and new coach (so far; they're also shopping Mike Smith and Dan Boyle).

Sounds like Hossa might be going to Hockeytown. Because, yeah, they really needed to be better.

I have no friggin' idea, unless he's planning on trading Bieksa or someone.

So much for offense

does this mean bye bye Cowan?

um, I'd still really like to see Redden here... i don't think anyone's signed him yet

:(

The only thing that would make this worthwhile is if Campbell was a bust and Redden actually blows up. Risky move but whatever, he could change.

Holy shit, much cap space do the Rangers have now? They signed Redden, Rozsival, and Rissmiller? That's like 12-14 mil no?

Roszival - 5mil
Redden - 6.5mil
Rissmiller - unknown
Voros - 1 mil
Jamtin - unknown
Valiquette - most likely close to 1mil
Jagr - depending on Hossa's deal, he's trying to match whatever Hossa gets (around 5-6 probably)

There's also the matter of resigning some of our guys, it's going to be very close. Rangers have ~20 mil.

HAHA, wtf GILLIS

Ryan Johnson signs with the Canucks, 2 year deal, 1.2 million per year.

UUUUUhhhhhhhh.... Who? like 15th 4th line player? 1.2 million for a fourth line center. great...

now about that top 6...

As of a week ago... did Tampa have like 5 players, and no minor league farm system. What the fuck they've been signing players like crazy. Holy Shit.

And to the dude that said hossa is going to get around 5-6 mil...

The penguins already offered Hossa 7.1 million and he turned it down to see exactly what he's worth on the open market. If Hossa goes to a good team, he's going to make around 7.5. If he goes to a mediocre team he'll make around 8.5-9. If he goes to Europe he'll make 12 mil, straight up cash homie, in the bank. Not to mention Jagr is not worth what Hossa is right now. Jagr is 36 years old, and on the down slope of his career. He won't be playing in the league for more than 4 more years (if he doesn't go back to Europe). If he stays in the NHL he's looking at about 6 mil.

Since Hossa went on the open market he's had offers from Montreal, Rangers, and Edmonton. Apparently the Edmonton offer was insane (upwards of over 9 mil). But personally I feel like he's going to end up in Montreal or back here in Pittsburgh. I'm definitely not throwing Vancouver or Detroit out of the picture yet either though. Hossa has said multiple times he wants to play on a good team with an honest chance at winning the cup. Thus i'm kind of ranking his choices in this order:

1) Montreal

2) Pittsburgh

3) Detroit

4) Vancouver

5) Edmonton

Montreal is obviously a good team, and right now they definitely have some cap room to throw at him.

Vancouver is fucking retarded for throwing 10 million bones a year at Sundin. Sundin is quality but he's only a 75 points points per season player. If they have that kind of money to spend, throw it at Hossa.

I'm just saying that Jagr is waiting until hossa gets signed before he gets into contract talks with the Rangers. He might ask for 5-6 mil, maybe more. But with the cap space we have, it's not looking very good at all.

I (being a Vancouver) don't want Hossa here. He's gonna want a huge long term contract, whereas Sundin's offer sheet is only for 2 years.

What pisses me off is Sundin is taking so long to decide. For $10 million, he could at least show some courtesy in accepting or turning us down, because we could be using that 10 million in signing someone else right now...

I'd rather pay $10 million for Sundin than Hossa. Call me crazy, but Sundin deserves credit. He has single handedly carried the Leafs to the Stanley Cup finals in the last two year. The man is a line by himself. He seriously doesn't need wingers. He's huge, strong, powerful, offensive, gritty, physical, and talented. He's had 12 consecutive 70+ point seasons, but remember the stats don't say it all. Many neglect to credit a player's leadership abilities, of which Sundin carries many.

Having said that, I don't agree with the $10 per season offersheet. But for a team that is offensively starved AND in need of a truly clutch captain AND needing size AND a need to show the best goalie in the world a committment to win, $10 million is out of desperation from a GM that has been "blackballed/hazing/initiation" or whatever else you wanna call it.

Sundin brings it with or without the linemates.

Sundin would probably lure Naslund back for another season, at which point we will be looking better in the top 6.

Naslund - Sundin - ???

Sedin - Sedin - ???

Burrows - Kesler - Pyatt??

Hordichuk - Johnson - ???

We've got like 15 3/4th liners to fill in those gaps.

Look at it from a desperate GM's point of view. He's got all the guns pointed at his head and has to pull something out of the hat. We REALLY don't want to go into a rebuilding stage while we have Luongo.

What the hell kind of crack are you smoking? The leafs in the finals the last 2 years? He didn't even get them into the PLAYOFFS. I'd rather have Hossa, who helped the Pens to the finals and apparently can score in the playoffs.

oh god, afinogenov rumors again? i like him, but last time i heard all the 'omg omg afinogenov's coming to town' it ended up being a huge disapointment (ha, blame nonis)

To Vancouver

Maxim Afineganov

Buffalo Defenceman (prospect)

To Buffalo

Canuck top 4 defenceman

Michael Grabner

^ and shit i forgot to post, i don't want to be giving away our future. im not a fan of this potential deal

may as well tank and get tavares to join hodgson as a 1-2 knock out down the center ha

our last GM signed about 10 3/4th line players. he got fired. our current GM steps up, vows for change. guess what he's done so far? sign 3 3/4th line players.

hey, at least we've got depth in the bottom six. endless depth

The wings snag Hossa in 1-year, 7.4 mil deal. Pretty close to what a predicted. Hossa definitely wants to win his cup before he settles down anywhere.

Wow, I'm surprised Hossa took a risk with a 1 year deal with no security. If Hossa does bad next season, he's not gonna fetch for more than what he would have gotten with a multiyear deal this year.

Best thing the Rangers have ever done in a while since nabbing Drury and Gomez.

Traded with the Blue Jackats Christian Backman and Fedor Tyutin for Nikolai Zherdev and Fritsche.

Fuck, this is a goddamn steal, I cant wait to see Zherdev play, he's like a less flashier version of Ovie.

haha, Rangers are going away from that image, believe me. They've a very young talent pool in Hartford.

Drury-Gomez-Zherdev
Dawes-Dubinsky-Prucha
Rismiller-Fritsche-Callahan
Voros-Betts-Sjostrom
with players like Lauri Korpikoski, Andreas Jamtin and maybe Artem Anisimov in the mix

Redden-Staal
Rozy-Girardi
god only knows

They still have 11 mil to spend, Jagr may or may not comeback, Shanny is most likely gone. I'm hoping Jagr resigns for a year or 2 to lead the younguns. Or Sundin, either one is fine with me. I thought the Rangers would have gone back to their ways of signing old veterans but they seem to have a really good plan to incorporate their young draftees in the near future especially with Cherepanov possibly coming over in the next year or 2.

I'm definitely going to miss Avery so much, he was such a good fit in NY, why he went to Dallas, I'll never know. But Andreas Jamtin is supposedly the Swedish Sean Avery so that might be fun to see what happens.

Ugh, I looooved Blackburn but he suffered a career ending injury unrelated to the atmosphere of New York. He had to officially "retire".

He retired after missing the entire 2003–04 NHL season due to a nerve injury sustained just before training camp to his left shoulder. He had nerve exploration surgery on March 31, 2004, then made an attempt to return to hockey, sporting a pair of blockers rather than the conventional blocker/catcher combination, as his injury rendered him incapable of closing his catcher. On February 1, 2005, he joined the ECHL Victoria Salmon Kings going 3–9–0, with a 3.54 GAA in 12 games. On September 15, during the Rangers training camp, he suffered a strainedMCL. Subsequently, Blackburn announced his retirement on September 25. Had Blackburn continued to attempt a comeback, he would have forfeited an insurance payout of approximately 6 million dollars

oh shit. not far east enough for my liking.

Zetterberg-Datysuk-Hossa

ha.. who's gonna win the cup again?? i wonder

Soooooooo... looks like Canucks might be getting Tavares next year.

Sundin turned down the 20 mil. even our unrealistic hopes are gone now

if we didn't have luongo, i'd be quite happy tanking and getting some nice picks. we're in a pretty weird position right now, best goalie, nice d, and no offense whatsoever... so bad that even a 37 year old offered 20 mil won't come

now, for

My pens are hurting for wingers right now. Theres still some quality UFA's out there up for grabs.

Miroslav Satan

Pavol Demitra

Ladislav Nagy

Ruslan Fedotenko

not so quality when you look at their price tags

i thought the point of the salary cap was to stop this insanity

Nathan Moon was a pretty good pickup for us being the 120th pick. He had a great season last year with Kingston. But I doubt if he'll get a ton of time yet. He'll probably play for a year with the Wilkes Barre Baby Pens and play an be reserved as a call up. I was just saying that losing, Hossa, Malone, and Rutuu, not to mention trading erik Christiansen and Colby Armstrong to get hossa at the deadline, kinda set us back with a few experienced wingers.

But considering the late breaking pens signings:

Satan - 1-year 3.5 million

Fedetenko - 1 Year 2.5 million

I' pretty happy with that. I think that is a pretty fair price for both of them. 3.5 is what Malone should be making. But I think they just signed them to stay at a highly competitive level this season while guys like Moon get a year to develop a little more.

Naslund goes to Rangers. God. Damn.

Canucks may as well ask Luongo, Ohlund, Salo to waive their NTC's and start shopping them around for young prospects.

Oh my god.

When free agency started out, I was worried because it didn't seem like nothing would happen at all and we would still be stuck with Jagr and Shanahan.

Fuck me in the ass and call me nikki, i am soooo excited for this team now.

aye, wel i hope you win the stanley cup, naslund deserves it.

and guess which GM is gona get fucked up the ass by the fans? no other than the canucks.

you're right. "sufficiently busted up" consists of losing a trade deadline acquisition, an overpriced role player, and a 3rd line winger.

Crosby, Malkin, Orpik, and Fleury locked up until 2014.

Satan is a great replacement for Malone. He lacks Malone's physical attributes, but he's a better goal scorer. Not to mention he'll be playing with 2 of the best centers in the league. If he stays healthy I wouldn't doubt he has a 30 goal season.

I've always had a soft spot for Rutuu, I'll miss him. But Matt Cooke should fill his role quite nicely.

Haha, and just imagine, we had both for a good 5 seasons. Must've pissed off evrey player in the West

I am a bit disapointed that Ottawa hasn't done anything yet other then sign Donavan...and buy out Emery...
