Sharks Acquire Joe Thornton

November 30, 2005

Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson pulled off maybe the biggest trade in Sharks history Wednesday night when he acquired perennial All-Star center Joe Thornton from the Boston Bruins. The transaction came with a price as San Jose moved wingers Marco Sturm and Wayne Primeau, along with defenseman Brad Stuart. However when all is said and done, the best player landed in the Bay Area.

Thornton, the first overall pick in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, selected just before his current teammate Patrick Marleau, has played in the past three NHL All-Star games and was named to the NHL Second All-Star Team in 2003.

boston just pulled an idiot move. Yeah, lets trade our most important player away. Boston and it's fans need to get a grip.

trade the captain. yeah, that's great for the image. they're gonna fall apart now. but then again, they had to do something having lost 10-11 or whatever it is.

well... that sucks a donkey's balls.

too bad I hate the NHL because it's boring.

College hockey all the way baby!

holy shit, thats fuckin retarded. habs/bruins arent gonna be as intense anymore, we're just gonna fuckin roll over you everytime. but fuck, im actually in shocked that they did this.

such a huge trade man, crazy shit yo. It's sweet that it happened on such a good night too, vancouver taking colorado to school after the total beatdown that occurred last time and now this, fucking rights doggy!

how do bostons fans control what the bruins do? i think it was a good move anyways, as now we have 3 average guys instead of one hot shot.......

oh, and another thing. way to go san jose, for having two thorntons on your team. yeah, good idea.

Yup, Bruins panicked and did a dumb move. They coulda got alot more for who is considered a top 10 player in the NHL

sick. im a fan of the sharks cuz one of their good players Johnathan Cheechoo played here in kap for the AAA midget team.

well, since the fans are what bring the money into the team, if they rant and rave about a player, as they have been doing about Throrton, the team will respond. There is always a scapegoat, and in this case, Thorton was it. The fans have blamed him for the bad season thus far, now, he is gone. I am not blaming ALL Boston fans, but the vocal ones are who get heard.

yeaaah college hockey. i actually find all college sports(football, basketball, soccer, etc.) better to watch than pro. besides baseball, i like pro baseball

The trade is already paying off for Boston thus far. First goal was scored by a new player and the second was assisted by two of em.
