NHL 21 - 22 Thread

Detroit is gonna be one of the more fun teams to watch this year that probably won't make the playoffs but will give the fans their monies worth.

If Larkin keeps throat punching guys and Bertuzzi keeps it chrippy it will be a whole lotta fun. First couple games have been very 'Detroit' if you know what I mean.

Of course. That Tampa game was electric. And seeing LCA almost filled up is a great sight. I don't expect guys like Mo Seider or Raymond having major breakout rookie seasons but really digging what we've been seeing so far. Those dudes are sick, and Zadina especially. These dudes are going to spoil a few parties this season for some other teams. To be a bit of a realist too, they'll have their eventual 5-10 game losing streak and more growing pains but hopefully nothing like 2019

I am a new hockey fan, watched my first NHL game in my entire life last week. Go Kracken!

I need some explanation on some things if someone doesn’t mind:

Offsides: seriously the most complicated rule in the world. It’s like not the same as offsides in soccer I don’t get it

Fighting: What are the unwritten rules of fighting it seems like there are a ton

Offsides: puck has to cross the blue line before offensive players do.

Fighting: its used as a way of self officiating. If the refs won't enforce dirt hits and such, the players will. Refs need to maintain control of the game and sometimes that means stepping into the fight and stopping it and other times letting them duke it out. Maybe someone with actually playing experience can elaborate on this.

I'm thinking the crack down on the crosscheck is a little too hard so far this year. There have been complete and utter softcalls for the sake of trying to crackdown on it.

All wings fans would disagree. Seem to be a lot missed calls in that regard as well.

Offside explanation with Prof. Snoop:

Usually fights boil down to retaliation for something another team did, whether it was a late hit, someone taking runs at rookies, talking shit in interviews, etc. etc. The exception is known fighters (most teams have at least 1) who will straight up ask an opposing player to fight them and they'll go at it once the whistle blows. Fights, win or lose, are a huge energy boost for a team.

As for "rules" it's expected that both people agree to the fight, helmets stay on, and most importantly all fights are 1v1. There are penalties/suspensions for "3rd man in" or players who hop in on fights they aren't involved in. Once someone is on the ice the refs will stop the fight.

This rangers/caps fight from last year is a good example. Rangers start 3 fights right at 0:00 in response to a Caps player injuring someone in their last game. Each one is 1v1, helmets on, everyone that's not involved pairs up with an opposing player to make sure no one jumps in. Refs break up each fight after someone gets wrestled to the ice.

Sorry for long post. Like you said there are a lot of unwritten rules in fighting that you kind of have to learn just by watching a bunch of games. You'll figure out what types of hits start fights, who fights who, teams that have beef, etc.

Yeah this is killer info, thanks man!

This is like the most amazingly Canadian game there is. Like hey the fellas are a little pissed we injured their teammate last time around so we’re gonna have a bit of a brawl before the game eh? Fair is fair

LOL'd

i hate evander kane, shitty human. decent hockey player, and funny how he tried to use a fake vax card lol

Wings without Bertuzzi are struggling. Games in Canada not going well. Also, not pro hockey but got tickets for WMU vs UMD Friday night so that ought to be fun.

Fuck Nate MacKinnon. fuck the Avs. I'm gonna kill someone, potentially myself.

On an unrelated note that was the most egregious goalie interference call of all time. Edler literally pushed Saad into Quick in what should've been a roughing call and its not even close.

sens goalie was insane tonight. ours not so much. glad we got the W in a pretty entertaining game

Yeah very true. Lowkey wanted to see Makar Rantennen and Kadri cook during ot tho

avs putting up football scores. jesus

Wings on the road are trash. Was getting excited after 5 wins in a row but now back to a bad slide like that west coast trip was.

San Jose... doesnt suck?

Evander Kane... what an idiot. here I was convinced he had turned shit around when they signed him.

Also, what is with these dumbass pro athletes and fake vax cards? like... seriously? do we need to make a damn drivers license for your vaccines just because youre gonna act like a bunch of mclovins? cmonnn you have a zillion dollars just get the jab like a billion other people have and protect yourself and your teammates and colleagues jesus

avs panthers game is insane. 3 or 4 massive hits already, couple fights, both teams are playing like it's the playoffs. 3rd period should be good

Bertuzzi/Larkin duo is sooo freaking good. 5 goals tonight. Unfortunately due to Bertuzzi's vax status he misses a bunch of games and is liability should a playoff series with a canadian team come about. Come on man, take one for the team and get poked. Play like trash without him and are super exciting with him around.

You should be good to go by then. I'm bummed about all these canceled games but at the same time it might be good for the islanders since they fucking suck this year.

kinda wish they would just move to the NFL strat of just testing symptomatic athletes. but i guess that’s more of a canadian obstacle than a league obstacle. i’m fine with whatever lets me see more hockey though

nice brother. Unvaxxed I presume?

you need a test vaxxed or not. when i went through a few days ago you needed a negative test (within the last 3 days), proof of vax, and obviously a passport or enhanced license. they were checking pretty thoroughly.

the one thing they don't mention is that they will often "randomly" give people self-tests as they pass through that need to be completed (while a govt official watches on zoom) and dropped in a mailbox within 24hrs

whole thing's pretty goofy. but their country their rules ig
