NFL QB Power Ranking Thread

Seriously. There's a whole lot more that goes into playing QB than athletic ability. Watch Brady before a snap. He breaks down the defense and calls the play accordingly. He's like a QB/offensive coordinator hybrid. RG3 will go the Vick route- amazing start to his career but eventually he's gonna take a few big hits running around outside the pocket and be injured half the season.

agreed that there is more to the position than athletic ability, but I doubt RG3 goes down the vick route. Sure he may get injured every now and then but it wont be like vick. He is way smarter, I believe he has a genius IQ, than both vick and newton who are both comparable to him. He is one of the most humble players in the NFL if you listen to his interviews and he is way to smart to not learn from his mistakes. After that minor concussion he got earlier this season I havn't seen him get hit after, he slides but still is able to get yardage cause he knows his capabilities. And they arent gonna let a rookie take over the offense in a way that brady, manning or brees does. Give him a few years, he will still be making the plays but he's going to start acting as one of them because of his experience.

Disagree with the RG3 thing. This is cliche as hell, but you can't teach what Brady, Rodgers, Manning have. Even Brees is just dude who just slings the ball as far as humanly possible 98% of the time. Griffen is going to be good, but to put him above the big three just because of potential is wrong, wash;t Matt Leihnart supposed to be one of the best as well?

Leihnart from what I remember was supposed to be the next Brett Favre/Peyton Manning minus the interceptions of Favre and the forehead of Peyton....

He then loses his starting job to a QB that no one wanted and multi time MVP Kurt Warner and is now backing up another guy in Carson Palmer (who if he hadn't been fucked by the Steelers I think by now would have a ring)

Also, Eli Manning legitimately scares me as a Pats fan. Dude is such a freaking wild card you have no idea if your going to be playing the brother with the IQ of -4 or a 2 time superbowl champion. Definately deserves to be 5 imo.

Ya, Cam Newton lit shit up last year. Look at him now this year. One good year does not make a great quarter back. Just wait until teams start figuring him out.

he might be good. he might be a bust. 3/4 of a season is not enough evidence to say one way or another.

until he gets some of these nobody should mention him among the best QBs in the league.

in that case, i would put manning ahead of tom brady. brady had a solid team throughout his superbowl seasons. the colts never had a defense or a rb. manning did it by him self.

Brady - 3 superb owls throwing to Brown, Patten, Givens, Branch, Caldwell. None of which are fast or big. and never had a legit running game

Manning - 2 throwing to fucking Harrison and Wayne.

i honestly think there are only like 3 tiers. in the first tier are 2 or maybe 4 people. these guys are often considered for playing with weak defenses and/or weak supporting casts and still pull out wins on a consistent basis.

brady, manning, brees in that order

then there are 10+ good players who just dont have that luxury of a good supporting cast and dont have that all-world ability to make the team by himself. or they have good supporting casts and look like pro-bowlers.

newton, schaub, vick, rivers, romo, dalton, eli, flacco and others in no particular order

the last tier are 10+ people who more often than not have mediocre to bad supporting casts so its very hard to judge them but they surely werent flashing anything over the last years

cassel, fitzpatrick, gabbert, skelton and others in no particular order

also i cant stand people who use super bowl rings for an individual pedigree argument. obviously, if there is a position where it could work, its QB, but i think its horseshit even there.

this post hits it on the head.

and yea, i agree about the rings bit. but when someone compares a rookie to arguably the greatest QB of all time the 3 rings argument does the trick.

there a plenty of QBs who have a ring like Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson who certinaly arent in the same class as the likes of Dan Marion who doesnt have a ring.

then dudes like big ben who have 2 but you almost give all the credit to that defense. Nobody thinks Ben is a better QB than Peyton just because he has more rings. but thats because they have comparable resumes. Brady and RG3 dont have comparable resumes

You have elite QBs, the ones just on the cusp of elite, and then everyone else, then the shit guys:

Elite:

-Brady

-Peyton

-Rodgers

-Brees

Just on the cusp

-Eli

-Flacco

-Ryan

(Couple others)

Everyone else:

-Cutler

-Russel Wilson

-Andrew Luck

Shit:

-Romo

just was looking at some stats this year for RG3 compared to Brady. First of All RG3's passing percentage is higher than brady, his yards per pass is higher. his longest pass is higher and he has only one more pick than brady does which is 4. Honestly is RG3 was sacked less he would be ranked a higher Qb than Brady. thats the only large difference and once again look at the redskins line they are pretty bad and compare that to the patriots where brady can sit in the pocket for 5 minutes with very low pressure.

the pats line is certainly not above average in pass protection this year.

but they scheme around it very good. and they are legit run blockers. they have a lot of quick screens and other quick routes so the lineman dont have to protect very long. when they go deep, they kinda often do it out of a heavy run set to keep the defenders honest.

The key to being a good QB in my opinion is consistency. Rodgers, Peyton, Brees, and Brady are all this. Romo, is anything BUT consistent. One game he looks like a God, the next game he throws almost 6 INTs and 1 or 2 fumbles

its almost even worse. He will be like 9/21 with 72 yards and one INT after three quarters. Then in the fourth he will go 12/13 with 212 yards and 2 TDs to Witten. The furious comeback almost always comes up short.

haha Eli's name just shouldn't be next to Matt Ryan and Flacco, shit Eli has two superbowl rings.. people aren't giving him enough credit even if he's not super consistent.. If we want to talk about inconsistent, what about rodgers, if i think about a great QB that's inconsistent it would be him.

Manning will be number 1 after he gets another Superbowl ring this year!

after looking at some stats real quick, rodgers definitely slays it pretty hard. Idk why i feel like he's inconsistent, maybe it's just this year? He does have the best rating so i'm probably way wrong hahaa
