NFL Films Demo Thoughts

Hey NS,

I am looking to send a Reel to NFL Films to try and freelance for next season. It has been a goal of mine since beginning in film making. Here is the reel I just recently put together, I see some artifacts that happen in the beginning looks like dead pixels but I think it is my personal computer when it exports something is going wrong with it. Working on fixing it hopefully very soon.

You have some cool shots.

I would suggest trying to add some more shots that aren't just action, close ups of players faces that show emotion or interviews with them. Just so they know you can tell more of the story that NFL films wants.

If you want to freelance with them I would also get experience with the Amira if you haven't used it yet. They switched that as their primary camera a couple seasons ago.

You'll also probably have to start more towards the bottom end of the camera department and work your way up, a ton of people also dream about shooting for NFL films. And they won't want to risk putting you at camera op right away without knowing your abilities.

I would also contact any NFL teams in your city or area and see if they need camera ops. This will help you continue to build your reel and make contacts with people at NFL teams. One of my friends is a camera op for a team and shoots their practices and games so the coaches and players can review the tapes.

I would reach out to the schools athletic directors or if they have a media school maybe contact them

I have wanted to test out the Amira but its a lot harder to do then expected. A lot of these shots are FS700 or GH4 shots. I have debated on putting in more emotional shots, the reason I have a lot of action shots is I wanted to showcase that I can capture the plays since a majority of their work I'd say about 70% is capturing the plays themselves.

I am in contact with a freelancer from NFL Films talking to him about the best way to go about it. I have worked with the Detroit Lions, my college athletics department, a few high school games and I currently work at a University in the Marketing Department mainly as the athletics guy filming a lot of sports and doing entry videos.

I would just contact them and say you just want to shoot for them maybe not for money but just for experience.

I have been lucky enough to film a lot of football, basketball etc over my years of filming. I worked in my college athletics department as a videographer, the Detroit Lions (but didn't get to film much game footage, only one game) and not at my current job. Most shots in here are from Liberty University games this past season but I also used some shots of my High Schools rivalry game last year that I shot.
