Next years JP Julien...help me make a decision

=nick=

i am 5'7 and 125 lbs. i will be getting next years reverse camber/sidecut JP Julien, and I cant decide which size to get, 178 or 188. my specs:

-will be skiing pow as well as cliffs and BC booters on these.

-will be mounting near center

-i normally would go for the 178, but i read on TGR that because of the reverse camber/sidecut they ski real short

-they are really really light

-they are the same length as the 185 ARG in this pic (and 185 would be fine)

help me out guys, thanks!

I would say go longer. It makes sense that they will ski shorter that 188 and they will be mounted close to center, which makes em feel even shorter.

yeah b ut the the 178 center mounted is gonna be pretty short i think..because

-i had 179 hellbents (185cm true length) and they were the perfect length

-since the bents measure 185 so does the ARG and the 185 ARG and 188 JJ are the same, only thing with the bents was they were way heavier and fatter as well.

188s arnt as big as you think you can still handle them i was worried about mine but im glad i went big. the only thing is if you plan on hucking in the bc id go 178 but i think theyd be fine.

They are still gonna be long at 188. I have last years in 188 and even though they are VERY light, I can still feel a big difference when I try to spin and stuff.

yea thats what im saying if you want to throw them around and use them for booooooters get tha 178. and i just saw your weight and id deffinatly go with a 178

i would go 188

a centre mounted 188 isnt that long (as you know with the 185 hellbents)

im a bit smaller then you and i wish my hellbents were 191ish and same with my big troubles that are 186, they really dont feel that long at all.

After trying out a few of this years rockered skis and talking to people who rode on the jp v julien's, I would say go with the 178. If your going to ski at baker, and you're going to want to spin on this ski, then go with the 178. The 188 will be too long. I usually ski on 191 ants and when I tried out the 185 ep pros they were a lot different, but still just as fun, if not more fun. They were the better for everything I skied. Except, when I was going really fast on shitty/inconsistent snow I would crash. I know, you're thinking that the 185 is probably close to a 188. But I am 6'3" and 180, and I have never seen you ski big mtn, but I think that I may be needing a longer ski than you. You will be able to throw around the 178 better, which is mandatory in tree's, pillows, and stuff like that. Go with the 178, the 188 will only be fun in open areas.

the waist is 115. ill have to do some thinking. if the 188 is similar to a 182 czar thats pretty short...also, the 179(185) hellbents were good. ill just have to think.

well the jj's i know are better on groomers for the sole fact that they have a little camber underfoot and the sidecut is regular underfoot

are you positive taht picture is the 188 jp? cause just as hellbents measure long, maybe jp's for next year do also...

Just go bigger, you can adjust later...I've yet to find a ski that's "too long"...and I'm pretty tall, but also very light for my height. worst thing that could happen is you'll be confined to slower spins and such.

Word.

If they are 185 ARGs and the JJs are 178 or 188 - one of those skis isn't measuring out right..The JJs certainly aren't longer, and if they are the 178s it doesn't look like there could be 7cm difference - maybe it's just the photo..

i think i want the 178 for my park ski next year... should ski the groms better than my eps and the shorter ski will be nice for spinning

188s may not ski that long, but c'mon people, he weights 125lbs. If he was 150ish, I'd say it was a toss up, but 25lbs is a lot for someone who is only 125lbs to begin with.

Go with the 178s.

i emailed armada, heres what they said. PS-im going for the 185

Nick,

Thanks for dropping us an email. Like the

Hellbent, or any other rockered ski, the 09 JP/Julien will ski shorter than its

advertised length. Additionally, next year’s JJs will no longer be a 188

and 178; rather, they will be measured out at 185 and 175. If you are

comfortable in the 182-185cm length I would recommend the JJ 185cm for you. One

thing to keep in mind, especially when purchasing the JJ is that the 09 model

has some major differences in rockered skis of the past. The two major

differences lay in the fact that the JJ has a longer running surface and a much

deeper sidecut under boot than other rocker skis on the market. Essentially

you are getting the best of both worlds as the JJ combines a shorter ARV

sidecut under boot, while incorporating an ARG rocker in the tip and tail. We

are confident that the JJ will be the ultimate resort powder ski as it floats

high in deep in snow and carves turns on groomers with absolute ease. Hopefully

this helps you out, if you have any further questions please let me know. Thanks

again.

i really dont think bumping up to 188 would be hard for you. weight may be an issue but not huge. i ride a 171 for park and bought some jjs 188 and center mounted em. didnt take long to get used to em so i figure rockered would be easier. so i mean tough decision but id say 188

so the reason the JP Julien looks the exact same length as the ARG in that pic is cuz....it is! they are both 185.

i would deff go with a 185 nick, your a strong skier

if you want to know what the swing weight will be like you can hop on my moment ruby 188's

the jj's are super sexy

I would say 188 if your looking to charge lines but if you want to butter around in pow i would say go smaller with your size it would depend on how you want to ski them and how strong of a skier you are

I want them so bad now. Sounds like the exact ski I want. There won't really be another ski quite like it for next year. Any chance you, or anybody knows that the turning radius is. I have Bacons now and I like the big sidecut, makes them pretty fun.

fuck fuck fuck awesome response from armada, this sounds like the perfect ski. any chance anybody's ridden them switch ? and yeah, the stiffness question.

ok, so since its rockered and they will ski shorter than the 188 length, more like a 185 or 186.

just go with the 188cm.

becasue if you get the 178 they willl ski like 175 or 176 .....thats just to short.

and you said it yourself 185 is fine!

188!!!!!!

1) thank you NS for posting the karma right in the small profile beside the icon. WAY more convienent.

2) to the person i quoted, read the replies before you post neg karma for you.

3) Skis sound dope. and good choice with the 185.

I need to flip a coin between 185 JJ's and 186 Bibby Pros...

But then again, Armada is much more established...ill prolly go with whatevers cheaper.
