Newshoolers: THe Motion Picture

have a bunch of skiers from like each region kinda thing. east coast style, midwest style, westcoast style, dirty south style, compton style, then just edit region sections with the best 10-15 skiers in each one. with like NS member names and no body super sponsored or anything.

i really dont see how people think this is a good idea. maybe you need to be reminded about how much effort goes into a ski movie and how ski movies that have 1000 people in them suck. take second generation for example. this was bermans second movie, and rather than focusing on 10-15 athleates, he put about 25 of his friends in on movie, then added footage of about 10 pros that he got from comps and stuff like superpark. the movie sucked. YOU CANNOT MAKE A GOOD MOVIE WITH 40 PEOPLE IN IT. i dont see how people are failing to recognize this but the idea that you are going to compile footage from kids all over the world and that you are going to be able to put it into a solid movie is just wishful thinking. there is no way that this movie could ever be good with the plan you have.

im sorry to be that guy that shits on ideas, but this just cant work you need to rethink your approach

sounds sick for sure. defineitly stick with the regional segments sounds like that would work best. Just curious though what were you planning for distribution?

Mikey, sick idea. I think we'll survey the newschool community and see who we can get to back it up and see what we can do. I think this movie could surpass any of the mainstream companies at the moment in what everyone strives for: SOUL. An all-amateur, for-the-love-of riding movie would be just the thing to capture the essence of the reason we're all addicted to getting stoked and talking about why we ski- whether its at Alta or at a small hill back east, documenting something like that would be epic. Purely epic.

1. who says it cant be done. Sketchline basically did the same thing. He had random people send him footage and edited it all together. He ALMOST completed it and it was sketchline. Anyhting is possible.

2. Dont have it come out in spring/summer. Go for November. It takes a lot of time to compose a movie and people will film until June and then edit it a bit and send it to you. That would leave you like 4 months to make a movie out of it.

3. Having people send it to "captains" of each region is the only way it will work. They sort through, and send the top 10 (at the most) riders segments to whoever is going to do the final editing.

were going to come up with a plan for the movie, then ask certain companies if they can help us out, maybe donations too and peoples own money that want to make this happen.

agreed

the captains idea is sick and shoudl eb decided early...this is done by region right? a captain for the east, midwest, west etc? (can be sub-divided)

I agree with the captain thing but I think it needs to much more localized like one captain for each park/resort. Then you could have regional captains (NW, W, CO, etc) who would recieve all the footage that's already been pre-sorted by the local captains.

Dude thats the point of the movie... it's not to showcase specific skiers, it's to showcase the sport itself. I think he's talking about making an almost documentary style movie (minus the boring dialog) more than a kick as ski movie with the biggest and latest tricks. Like i said, it's not about the skier, it's about skiing.

Honestly....this is a great idea, nice job. But in truth, im pretty skeptical of the approach so far. its already been stated, but i think it would be way too much for people to handle. i think the best approach would be to split the movie into various chapters that each document a specific region. i.e. one segment=CO resorts, whereas another for CO backcountry. idk, but i think that that would be a much better way to go, but still pretty big to handle....good luck guys. were all behind u and id b happy 2 contribute footage.

just for the record this has been suggested atleast 5 times years ago. hate to burst your bubble

thats gay as fuck the last thing our sport needs is a movie made by a bunch of retards that cant count past ten without taking there shoes and socks off.

ill have you know westnile that i have a bachelors in vagina and can give the 10 finger count without even rolling up my sleeves

stop playing this idea down, we got a lot of people who want to see this happen and it is moving in the right direction. This time, people are going to follow through, it isn't going to die.

As cool as i think it is, i doubt it could ever happen, but for first thoughts you should put up a dope website where people can register and post their videos for consideration. Have a section for judging and then a group of editors take the submitted video and start sorting it out. You'll need a large and fast server for this to be possible, and it wont be cheap. Whose paying for this?

1. website

2. footage

3. sorted out footage

4. a good editor

5. picked riders

6. start editing

7. finished editing/premieres

8. newschoolers: the motion picture is born

I know how much effort goes into making a movie. This can easily be done. We arent going to take all the footage. Only the best will be used to avoid crappiness

ya I do. I didnt see the point in doing my best editing on every segments I was gonna post for free. Plus part of my editing program crashed so I had to move... Nevermind I'm not even gonna explain all this
