Newschoolers Selling Us out For Ikon $$$

No sir. I do video production work. Which is what I want to transition into full time through ski films. And I went to college for a semester. Didn’t work out for me at the time. I plan on going back for a film degree but ain’t no fucking way you’re catching me paying $100 under full price tuition for zoom university. My only option THIS YEAR was working at the resort. I’m considering construction or doing wildland work

You could've gone to college, a trade school (which will probably pay more than a 4yr degree anyways when you're done), got a construction job in SLC from May to October every year (of which there are plenty that pay $20/hr+ with no experience netting you $18k for 6 months of work) ect to pay for a pass. What's your job in the summer? Let me guess, raft guiding?

Plenty of ways to work hard in the off season to cover winter expenses so you don't HAVE to work at a soul sucking resort because "you have no other option."

If you're actually interested in a video production career, don't even worry about going to school, just start getting experience. You're much better off getting a dope internship/entry level job with a production house or agency, networking and experience is really all that matters.

This is basically what STEPT did and now they are doing work for Audi etc which is dope.
 
I’ve been trying for years man! Did video production freshman to senior year in HS. Had my first internship summer before senior year. Also had a internship during my single semester of college with Team Thirteen and Hennie VJ. The video game is tough when you don’t have money to buy a more than an entry level dslr and a few basic lenses. Plus the fact that I have a shitty ass laptop to edit on. 8 gb of ram won’t even playback my 1080p 60 FPS mp4 files :/

It bugs me to no end that I didn't push the button to buy 500 bucks of ethereum back in feb of 2017, I'd literally be putting a downpayment on house right now.

If you don’t like where NS gets it’s funds so we can all be here than maybe you should provide said funds.

I for one am glad NS is able to get the marketing $$$ so we can have a site, I’m also thankful for ikon, it’s really made skiing during Covid easier, and since it’s beginning it’s given me better access at a better price, that money I’ve saved allows me to do more for not just myself and family, but it benefits anyone who works in an industry that gets tips, at least in my case.

I wouldnt dwell on that too much, there is no way you wouldve diamond hands it until today.

My buddies were mining BTC when it first came out and bought a pizza with a bunch. but they all sold it early on, had hard drive or usb stick failures losing their wallets. Crypto is a shitty long term investment, treat it like daytrading. Topshot is where its at for the next month

It's also horrible for the environment. Idk much about how they get other cryptos but bitcoin just uses so much energy to mine and then there's thousands of dead gpus to dispose of in a much shorter lifespan than they're intended for

Better idea, keep ikon, only permit skiers who can either throw a big ass 3, rodeo or drop 30’ cliffs that’ll get rid of all the Jerry’s, Karen’s, rich dentists, long lines and crowded slopes etc.... and my ski buying addiction will be cured cause there will be no more sales and only a few ski companies left resulting in not much to choose from

Lol word of advice... its not the camera you use, but the CONTENT you're able to gather.

Also I suggest going into something else if you want to make enough money to live on... ski porn movies don't really pay - especially these days when production studios have all but left the scene (besides like 2 or 3 that are just sorta hanging on, that is).

Even then, the top production companies have always kinda struggled and will continue to struggle more.

Also a film degree won't translate to much... just being real with you dude. Get your degree in something more tangible while making films on your own. Don't spend thousands of dollars in loans on a degree you can't use much of.
