Newschoolers, Lets see your Whips!

My 87' BMW 357is aka E30-LS1 (go to bimmerforums.com or r3vlimited to see the buildthreads). I know these are pretty much all engine bay pics, but it was all I could find from my laptop/the forum. Hope this isn't an excessive number of pics haha

Actually no, everyone was stoked on it. That motor has a lot of respect in all car circles. It was ideal for us becuase it's an aluminum block meaning that after the swap was all done we only gainer 60lbs total. Pretty amazing. Kinda scary to drive actually since the car only weighs 2800lbs and has 350ish hp haha

Additionally we did a really thorough / clean job so everyone has respect for it...so yeah that's frankenbimmer

Haha most of the guys around here take offense with mixing car parts, especially domestic and foreign.
How much trouble did you have getting it to fit right? I'm thinking about putting an LS1 or a 327 in my S10, should fit better but I want to keep the mileage i get with my 2.2L (crazy but possible).
What do you have in the rear end? Beefed up 10 bolt? Ford 9 inch?

Here's my baby. i get to drive her after school and on weekends. 2004 Audi A4 1.8T 6-speed manual. (not my actually car, just a stock picture)

and heres what i get to drive to school, 1992 BMW 318i 5-speed manual. (not my actual car either, mine looks A LOT shittier)

wish i still lived in wa, i would come see this thing in a second. that car and build is awesome man. if you are thinking of doing something next, i would recommend throwing that engine in an old wide body m3. props on that build though, truly amazing.

It was honestly a tough job to fit it in. We wanted to keep boosted brakes, AC, even cruise control, so to do that we had to get rid of the vacuum boost on the firewall and make a remote mounted hydo boost behind the front left headlight with a linkage system that runs up there to activate it. That was actually a ton of work. There were just so many packaging things

- Had to notch the oil pan to fit over the steering rack

- Had to get rid of the brake away joints in the steering shaft and make a solid one

- I welded our full custom dual 2.5 inch exhaust. It has to go OVER the transmission mount on one side for ground clearance.

- We used 2 different headers in order to accommodate the steering shaft u-joints

- Hammered out the transmission tunnel

- Custom driveshaft and differential flange (to answer your question, we're currently using the stock diff. It is a limited slip and they used the same one all the way up through the 5 series line of the era so it's *supposedly* rated to 450hp. We're at about 350 so we're hoping it hangs in there.

- Made custom intake from fiberglass in order to clear the pulleys and stay under the hood

- Radiator and mounting was a hassle

- Obviously we made our own motor mounts and transmission mount

- Wiring actually wasn't that bad. We used the stock harness and sent it to a guy for modifications.

- I'm forgetting a ton cuz i'm tired but yeah...it was definitely a big project.

Regarding mileage - that engine actually is pretty economical as long as you can make yourself drive with a light foot. Most of the time I'm practically idling. In 6th gear on the highway (60) it's doing 1300 rpm. Then if you floor it in any gear through 3rd you just loose traction. I can downshift to 3rd on the highway and start drifting haha... (I know ...retarded). So yeah it was worth it. Definitely go the LS1 route for your S10. The LS1 actually has 2 locations for the motor mounts to bolt in (so that the classic hot rodders could directly bolt them into 69 camaro's, etc. Pretty awesome really), so it's pretty likely that it's a near direct bolt in.

haha...if only. That would be pretty funny. On Jalopnik the other day they had this: A triumph 10 with a tube frame and LS2.

then there's always this VW bus with a porche 993 twin turbo engine and full 996 drivetrain. I think that pretty much takes the cake as far as swaps go lol

http://http://www.race-taxi.ch/indexx.htm

At 2:00 he gets in a good chase with a porche and an aston. It's hilarious.

Oh yeah, then there's this. I'd say it's about 1/2 mine based on family member vs. percent of time driving it... (the E30-LS1 isn't exactly drivable in wet, etc). Technically still a family car though. Whatevs

so it will look kinda like this:

oh, and to the guy with the e30-ls1, NICELY DONE!!! i dont even need to talk about the engine, that speaks for itself in its amazingness, but i especially like what youve done with the license plate and badges.most newbs prolly see it and go oh, another bimmer, and wont even take notice that there is no such thing as a stock 3 series with a 5.7L, and the plate most people will have no idea what ls1 means. but anyone who knows their shit will know exactly what youve done and give you mad silent props haha. nice!

Be VERY careful with that button...

it's probably for the EMP, or perhaps the rockets, or passenger ejection seat...just saying...exercise caution.

when you push the pedal to the floor it will hit this said button and make the car downshift and stay in that gear until redline. the germans came up with it i believe to get the car and passengers out of harms way as fast as possible if needed.

you fail. it weighs less than 14 POUNDS. I have the same bike but the team Rabobank edition, and it's a high 13 to low 14-pounder...

who needs a dyno when you are running in the mid 10's already! haha. i need a larger turbine housing and bigger injectors then it will go on the dyno.

you said you were running mid 700whp. i know for a fact you cant do that on stock injectors and housing. not to hate, im just curious.

pics of my new fozzie tomorrow fellas, you wont be disappointed.

i have 1000's right now, you need aprox. 30% more fuel to run e-85 sooooo you need 30% more injector. i need 1600s i have 1000's they work ok. i have a gt37 turbo its not stock.. i need to bigger housing for it. i do know what im talking about.

what kind of car? my car does 12 stock, but it tapers, i think peak is just under or over 14, but it rarely gets tat high. also im guessing your running a MBC or a tune? i dont know if any car runs dead on 14.8 stock all day

its a bone stock forester xt (with exhaust), same turbo as the wrx

within the next week ill have a downpipe and intake along with a tune. i could push it up to 17 or 18

worddddd. im guessing its not 14.8 on the dot all day, but peaks at 14.8? could be wrong, either way, dope car, always liked the xt's they seem to be super sleeperish especially the forester

yeah, it peaks at 14.8. what most people dont understand is its the exact same thing as the 06/07 wrx, just a different innercoler. as soon as i get a camera ill through up pics, it looks real god considering ive had it for a week.

eventually im gonna get a front mount innercooler and take the hood scoop off, vent the hood, then im sleeper, haha

im gonna quote this post in a year or so when im over 350whp.
