Newschoolers chads gap session 2022

Find the smoldering hole of Chad’s Gap ruins then ask Marc Frank after paying him the troll toll. He’ll give you directions.

They did, I wish I could remember their full name. They were another legendary big air sender from the late 90's early 2000's in LCC.

Chris MineccI has a few shots in there.

There are some gems in there for sure!

The late Chris Minecci.

Rick Wroblewski with a Risky Flip (the first double cork, you’ll never convince me otherwise) over Upper Flagstaff Gap.

All Ostness films should be required viewing if you want to be a avid skier.

I'm 95% sure none of those lawn darts are Jamie and I am 100% sure the one off the Glory Hole cliff at Alta is not. I can't remember is full name, but it was Rob something.

Also claim, I helped build the gap a 7:28.

Finally, the gap at 8:45 is Leviathan, and somebody needs to hit it again. That shot was the closest anyone (Pierre Yves-Leblanc) ever came to landing it and they had to quick clip it.

legend!

I couldn’t find anything about it in a quick search, is this risky flip by Rick Wroblewski in one of the ostness movies? If so which one?

Its in "The Flying Circus" I believe.

There was also one shot of it in "The Bolero Project" posted above. Its technically a D-spin 7 to backflip but in practice its as much a true double cork as much of what happens today. Plus it was landed several years before Mike Wilson's or the Kangaroo Flip.

Sorry for the double post. The shot is at 6:12.

Yeah you're right, his name is Rob Holmes. He also did the lawn dart at the red bull huckfest at snowbird in the early 2000's

I grew up hiking in that area all the time and it took me like 10 years to figure out where it was because i couldn’t comprehend that the take-off was that far from the landing. The scale doesn’t even fit in your vision when you’re looking at the hillside.

having stood on it from the takeoff, it really is something to imagine clearing that, but standing on something with skis and then going into something with speed is a different feeling. Skiing a whole year gives you new dimensions of what is possible and what is not possible. I seriously doubt I'd ever even consider hitting chad's, or pyramid, but I also seriously doubted I would be able to hit a 40 foot cat track gap and that happened so who the hell knows. Anyway my point is it's just different looking at something on skis.

I know theres no snow right now, but come late March / early April I'm putting together a crew of nsers and we're gonna build a kicker and hit this bad boy.

Yes the biggest jump I've ever hit is like 40 ft and yes I'm bad at skiing but it's my last year on my parents health insurance and I upped my life insurance policy so if I'm gonna die now is the time.

Who all's coming with?

I would suggest doing pyramid first for practice as the in runs are hectic. Probably the most important part would be to manicure and groom a smooth in run, then get your speed right. If you feel super comfortable after pyramid then it's your call on Chad's. I might be keen for pyramid around Feb/March as I think I know the speed.

Tbh this is probably exactly what's going to happen.

Oh I agree for the most part. I just think Leviathan is whole different beast.

I still have a pipe-dream of hitting Pyramid, and I can stand on Chad’s and comprehend how it’s fully possible even if I wouldn’t. But Leviathan just doesn’t make sense. Haha

What about radios?

it's a good idea but i think it might be better if the people waiting to drop don't get reports about the carnage happening on the landing. real morale killer

Just consider the fact that no snowboarder hit it until last year. Do you really think that you and your buddies are gonna just shovel a little booter, hike up there and jump it? Good luck.

give this man back his karma you pussies and go read the real thead

Ill bring [tag=53325]@MilfHunter[/tag]’s mom and we can use her wet vagina for lubricant to make sure we all have enough speed to clear it

I mean this is fair. I haven't been in Utah for a few weeks so haven't been able to scope it out. I'm in Jackson till the 25th but we can set a soft date in February and adjust based on conditions.

Has anyone ever turned Chad's into a massive QP?

Yeah people have done that many times. People make a jump out of it too, like skipping the gap and just making a lip on the front side of the landing pile

Bump

Was building a jump around PC a few days ago on a northern aspect. Tons of faceted snow both below and above December's snowpack, but overall still decent snow to work with. However, we're getting to the point in the season where the sun will really start frying any snow that's left on the southern aspects.

Yeah I was totally mistaken and we should have just sent this in January. I'm heading up this this weekend to scope things out.

Yeah, this weekend or next is looking prime, depending on how tomorrow's storm treats us.

Dm me if you're interested in coming.
