Newschool Racing?

So I was checking out the Salomon ski website for some reason and in their ski category listing they include 'Newschool Racing'. So I was just wondering if anyone else finds this wrong. I know I do. Racing is racing. Newschool is newschool. I think we should keep it that way.

 
I think it nothing but a marketing gimmick, caus what are they gonna do? hit the gs couse switch... I certainly hope not.

I have no doubt that its a marketing gimmick but that doesn't make it right :)

The only good thing about this is that I guess they see 'Newschool' as marketable now. Oh well.

i did that in a race ( school team ) last year i fell and so i just skied the rest of the course switch

I thought it was for skiercross too. But they have another section devoted to the CrossMax, their skiercross specific ski. I dunno.

 
in grade 9 i joined my school race team and the first race i reverted to switch right out of the hut and skied the whole course switch - the next day i was kicked off the team. :(

hah switch racing league....and who said skiing the rest of the course out switch was 'craptastic' i don't really get how it sucks, would it have been cooler if i skied it regular?

I think Cedric is right... there actually is a 'new-school' for racing, or new techniques and technology, anyway. Who was wearing shin guards five years ago? And the short skis, like Ced said, is the big thing.

Anyway I'm racing on Skogens this year.... the worst mix ever. I know I'll never place so I'm planning on finishing each race switch. :)

definatly an ad gimmick, but slightly true as cedric said. and racing on twins is always fun.

I have two pair of skis, one for racing and one for 'NuSkool Trix', I went to a hill for a race one time and wanted to hit their park and only had my racers so I tried... and failed. I did a few crappy things. In the end the submarine crashed and everyone died.

indeed, Cedric is correct. Salomon says newschool racing in reference to the new short slalom skis that have revolutionized slalom racing, fuck i'm baked. These skis have changed the way ski racers approach the course and the way they attack it. Athletes such as mario matt and bode miller are said to have 'newschool' technique. Salomon has been using the 'new racing' name for a few years. On their race stock skis instead of showing 3V or 2V it shows new racing on the tail. so yeah, thats what they mean by new racing..

one time I caught my tip in a slalom course - a long time ago - when I used to race... - and yea I got spun around backwards - and the ruts were too deep to turn around - and the gates too tight - so I did 2 gates switch then I spun it around and kept going... it was cool. I didn't do very good in that race. meh.

bode miller is the worst skier to ever win a medal. EVER He throws himself down the hill without the slightest amount of skill and hopes for the best. He falls more than he finishes and i wish rossi never picked him up.

Oh, and i was wearing shin guards five years ago...lots of people were wearing shin guards five years ago. Hell, people have been shinning gates for about 15 years.

Worst skier to ever win a medal? Let's see you carve every turn on a world cup gs course..the guy may have an awkward style, but you don't get to be #1 in the world by being a bad skier. His body is always in the right position for the skis to work. He's got balls and takes chances everywhere which is why you see him almost lose it all the time. His agility saves his ass. Bode rules..

 
i hope you were kidding about bode...he is better than you are, or ever will be...he may not be a graceful skier to watch, but what he does, gets the job done. as long as you get the results, it doesnt matter how you look. or do you wear abercrombie and fitch only?

yeah, amen tothe greatness of bode. only us guy who can compete w/ the damn austrians. THere is switch gs racing, at Shane McConkeys festival of all things fun and saucerbow at squw lst spring they had a switch gs race, as well as skibaord racing, freestyle sledding and other ill shit.

yeah, well if you wnat to be prictacularly correct its the pain McShlonkey open, but yeah that was it, i think steel spence won 1st overall, and this kid i know form vermont(bigkicker on ns) named isaac got 2nd

no, there is a newschool racing, mainly the shorter skis, but a few of my friends were telling me some new changes in racing, i kinda forgot them all but there is defenitly a new and oldschool racing

Newschool racing is what the coaches are calling the same old stuff they've been saying for the last several years (particularly involving shorter skis and a tighter line) so that more kids will stay involved. Particularly in the middle school level kids want to do what's cool, so if they hear about a 'newschool racing tecnique' they will be more likely to stick with racing in the short run, and skiing in the long run.

 
i disagree, i see how that might be true, but i still say there is still a newschool racing. i think it might jsut be in a different context than newschool freeriding if tha tmakes since

I fail to see how this thread can be gayrific. Racing is awesome! and yes there is such a thing as newschool racing from a technical standpoint.
