New Zealand trip advice?

I’m possibly going to new Zealand for a ski trip, I’ve been before on a surf trip once and will be meeting my friend over there.

my question is what time of year would be fun for these mountains? I generally like doing some mellow all mountain stuff, but I’m more into park and spring conditions / weather. When would be nice to go and should I skip or focus on any of these 3 mountains?

Yo,

so I moved to Queenstown and actually skiied these resorts with my ikon pass at first. You’re going to want to go September or August. Preferably September. September is the nice spring weather. NZ can get overcast and icey so spring weather is a nice change. But honestly, plenty of warm days in winter too. Earlier in the season is way too much of a gamble.

Mt Hutt has the best snow, from what I’ve heard, but I never made it up there.

Remarkables is fun because they’ve got a nice park and a lot of really fun slack country. But watch out because those relatively young mountains mean it’s craggy and there are a lot of snow sharks. Also, it’s pretty cool how you’re literally skiing on other side of the famous range. Coronet peak (btw it’s COR-O-NET - don’t say “coro-nay”) gets so wind blown and icey. It’s awful. But there are still really fun days there when it gets warm or at the night ski with DJs. Plus the view is awesome and it’s the easiest to get to from town. Coronet’s park sucks.

If you can manage it, you should book a day at cardrona too, I love Cardi’s. Amazing park, great snow (something about the valley just meant that the snow was better than Remarks and Coronet), and just bigger terrain overall.

All of these resorts have places in town where you can book tickets, buses etc. so that is relatively easy. The bus is super easy in Queenstown too so that won’t be an issue. Just make sure to get a bus card at the airport (pretty sure they still sell them there) otherwise it’s a $10 ride into town (a shuttle is $15 per person).

Another thing to note is that I’m pretty sure the borders are still closed so def want to watch that one (unless you’re an Aussie - in that case, go for it)

Remarkable have some sickkkk terrain and a good park. Mt Hutt is kinda boring if the snow isn't great, but has some good lines when the snow is there. Craggieburn and Broken Arrow nearby Mt Hutt are where it's really at. Just be ready to get fucked up by the rope tows/nut crackers. Riding ski fields is very different from skiing developed resorts. Mid spring (their mid spring) is a great time to go to any of the mtns.for

go to Cardrona in Late September and get the spring pass deals. such a good vibe and the park is the best in New Zealand. you can also go to treble cone because they have dual pass access and get some amazing powder and backcountry skiing in the Motutapu chutes its pretty knarly though and you have to hike out. I'm working at cardies this season and I can't wait, gonna be so sick.

Hutt has a pretty good not great park but overall is a pretty boring mountain. They just put in a new 8 seater park chair though so thats sick. 2 minute park laps

Remarks park is probably slightly not as good as Hutt but I haven't been there too much so I might have just been at shit times. Overall their natural terrain is more fun though

Coronet has no park. But fun night skiing and pretty cool terrain if the snow is good

If you stay in Qtown you can ski Remarks and Coronet easy but not Hutt cos it's up more nearer to Christchurch

Currently Remarks has a little bit of snow, but Hutt has heaps. Had a mean time up there the other day. Coronet is still absolutely bare and they were meant to open tomorrow lol. But obviously that will all change by the time you get here in spring

If you've got the funds, DEFINITELY go over the hill to Wanaka. Cardrona's park is out the gate. Some real world class shit going on over there. And Treble Cone has very very fun natural terrain. If you get freshies definitely hit it

Good luck sir

I went to Hutt a year after we were there and it was fucking mean sick. We were just there on a dry ass year. The next year was all-time

I also recommend the club fields if you can... I know its not on the Ikon pass.. but its really the coolest, most unique skiing experience you're going to get in NZ

Also if you can, go to Treble Cone. Rad terrain.

Also, as far as the Club fields closer to christchurch... Id say its easier to go to Craigieburn than Broken River if youre right handed. Vise versa for Broken River if youre left handed.

Cheeseman is nice for either because they have Tbars... same with Porters. All the ski areas in the Selwyns seem to be fucking great. Never got to go to Olympus or Temple Basin thanks to rain on the days I had planned to go to either, but they have both hosted freeride world tour events so thats all you have to know about that.

The Beauty about Nz is that literally all the chicks there do anal. So if u like blow out buttholes, then yes go

Yessir, I remember. That's why I said "Mt Hutt is kinda boring if the snow isn't great, but has some good lines when the snow is there."

Just had a pie, so yummy

Mad jealous!!!

Apparently there's a place near mammoth that has them. I have an Aussie friend that lives near tahoe and hes gone a few times. Would have picked me up some but i wasnt around.

Cant believe more places dont have them. That shit would catch on hard I think. If i was better at cooking I'd open up a spot. Not even a full bakery. Just do pies. Id kill for even a mediocre one right now.

Always surprises me that other countries dont have pies

Because a lot of places would do them poorly. Can you imagine a stale, non buttery crust pie from a gas station?

I had to eat pre-packaged pies during corona at Charlotte pass (corona sanitary protocol??). They blew.

I'm not talking about a gas station. There are all kinds of different restaurants with all linds of different foods, flavors, foods from different countrys.

I don't know why more places don't make pies. Seems like the few places in the states that do have decent business and some are able to charge way too much for them.

The place i worked in NZ had pre packaged pies. I didnt mind then. We would get anything that didnt sell for free at the end of the day. Kept me fed

My ex I dated in NZ (who is a cook) wanted to open a Pie chain in the US. She would have killed it.
