New Tripod?

Well I decided to peace on the idea of upgrading my hv30 since I don't want to drop too much money. Anyway I want to upgrade my tripod. Any recommendations for an hv30? Don't care about the weight, want a nice fluid head though. Looking to spend probably around $200.

Anyways, I've learned my lesson - you won't get much for $200. However, "much" is relative - you won't be hanging a big camera/moniter/adapter/lenses off your tripod.

My first real tripod was the 701HDV head with the 190XDB legs, and it worked fine for me with a DVX. Maybe I just don't know how a fluid "should" feel, but nonetheless it gave me smooth pans and was MUCH better than the one I head before.

It's not too expensive, just over 200 I think, so its in your range. Steve is going to come in here and bitch at me and say get something better but to be honest I was very happy with that one, even though he doesn't believe me.

Go ahead and get the 701....
Just keep in mind that you'll end up spending money on a better tripod in the future if you stick with filming.
 
hey I'm also in the market for a new tripod too. I film with a pana dv 500, and I'm looking for a small and light tripod that can fit into my dakine pack...is this realistic? the one I had before was shitty but was small....any small tripods out there?
 
...probably not. It'll probably stick out the top. When I had to strap my tripod (the one I was talking about above) to my cousin's Dakine pack, it went on the outside, and really only stayed there for groomers.
 
its not awkward or anything to ski with? What about weight? I found some manfrotto sticks, I think called the wilderness which seemed really small and light...

Heard anything about those?
 
Well I mean, yeah, its awkward, but its a tripod, you know? Its main function is not to be tiny, its to support a camera and provide smooth movement. You won't either with a tiny tripod.
 
Thats true. I know that there is def the perfect tripod out there for my needs. Something shortish, and relatively light. I just cant seem to find it....

I mean I'm no Warren Miller, but I'm just looking for a tripod to stabilize my shots and get a little bit more professional look.

I have a huge bogen at home I can use, but it is very large and very heavy, and def not suitable for skiing(at least the shit I do....)
 
Then because only you know what you need, and to be honest I'll probably keep recommending things that are a little above what you need (surprisingly enough, given my track record on tripod recommendations), look around. Check out B&H and see if there's anything good and small for cheap. Read reviews, ask questions.
