New Tripod Recommendations

Need a new one and looking for what you guys use or have used or like.

I have a Canon DSLR, only accessory on it will be a Microphone. Use for video. I do have a slider system that will need to go on the tripod as well. All said and done, maybe 12-15 lbs with slider, give or take.

I don't need to break the bank, I don't need the best and newest and greatest out there. I am just having troubles on Amazon with the amounts of choices and lack of pictures to get an idea of what I would be buying.

Look for a lightly used Manfrotto tripod on Craigslist. People sell them on there all the time and you can find them for a fair price. Manfrotto heads are ideal too.

Get a miller or oconnor tripod

lol

You just made a thread asking what Tripod you should get, then you said you found a good Miller one you liked, now you are 'loling" about buying one.

The absolute cheapest you should go on a new tripod is the Sachtler ACE. Anything below that and you're going to pay a lot more money down the road replacing it (i.e. stay away from Manfrotto).

If you buy used, vintage Manfrotto legs are quite good and can be found for under $100 easily. Don't bother with the new stuff.

I can confirm the manfrotto fact here. Wish i had saved a couple extra hundred and gone with a sachtler at least

I can vouch for the vintage Manfrotto 'Pro' legs, 144B, a fokin' lead scaffold if' I've ever seen one, can easily support humans standing on it.

For vintage Manfrotto legs is this what your talking about?? Also do you think this would be a good buy. Ill buy the head later.

The 3001 (190) are quite good legs, I prefer the rugged simplicity of the 144B (3211 in the US if I'm correct) and it's big knurly twisty knobs instead of the levers of the 190 that can loosen over times, biggest downside of the 190 is that it only goes to ~145cm.

I can vouch for the 144B/3211 all day, they are rocksteady legs, I haven't used the others so i can't vouch for that.
