"New" to skiing!

Hello everyone at NS!

I am new to this forum so im sorry if i am posting at the wrong place!

But! I am sort of "new" to skiing i have bin riding snowboard for the last 10years not bin doing allot of jumping or anything! So abaout 2 years ago i started talkung abaout changing to skiis! And this xmas i got twintips under the tree!

Now i am 26years old and im guessing it's never to late to learn and have fun! But im wondering abaout the way to go! Should i get comfy and stabel on the skiis before thinking abaout rails/jumps etc? Or go all inn?

Im open for all the help i can get! :D

so you still get stuff under the tree with 26? Jokes aside, I'd start with skiing the groomers and get the basic feeling of skiing itself. Every good park skier has a solid base of basic skiing skills like carving, etc.

I'd say just get confident skiing down non-terrain park runs first. During that time though, feel free to go into the park a little and hit small jumps, but definitely focus on your carving and general skiing ability.

There are a few kids at my mountain, who went into the park right away. They progress fast but everything looks so sloppy.

Sounds good!

And ofc not fun looking sloppy when u can look good doing what u love! :-)

Going to the hills tomorrow for the first time so will be fun to see how it goes!!! :D

if i were you id just send it in the park asap. learning how to ski has no corrolation with ability in the park whatsoever

If you cant ski properly you should not ski park especially if you never did park on your snowboard... get good at skiing then progress to the park

He's presumably Norwegian, I'm willing to bet he speaks English better than you speak Norwegian, + it's significantly better than most people with English as their native language.

@OP where in Norway are you skiing?

I have been skiing before i did almoust 10 years before i started with snowboard! But i am guessing it's not like riding a bike, u dont pick it up again in 10 minutes after all that time!

You're 26, and presumably male...why the hell are you typing like a text crazed teenaged girl?

No biggie getting a late start, man. You'll be fine. There's no reason not to progress both your conventional skiing and park riding simultaneously. Really focus on good body position, balance, forward boot pressure, and get a feel for what it means to really control your skis. So many people are content to lean back (subtly or not) and push and skid their tails around, and that's fine, but trying to ski park like that or other challenging terrain will be impossible for you.

If on your first day you're able to competently ski down some intermediate trails, stop comfortably with full commitment to your edges, not a wedge stop, then screw it, go give'r.

FInd a wide flat box, and just try to pop, turn 90, slide, and land. The first time you hit a feature and ride away, you'll be hooked. On flat ground, get comfortable just popping. Try a 180. They're really easy and the basis for so many tricks.

Good luck duder and be safe.

For the rest thanks for the tip.

It's pretty obvious English isn't his first language, go easy on the guy.

But like everyone else is saying, work on getting the basic skills down first. The more confident you are in you abilities to make it down the hill, the easier park skiing will come for you. Most importantly though, don't put too much pressure on yourself to progress- everyone has their own rate. It always sucks seeing the kid half your age throwing 7's, 9's, 10's with ease. Do the tricks that make you happy and have fun with it, the rest will come in time.

FIrst things first...kids on newschoolers are ruthless and most are 10 years younger then you.Take a lesson, get the basics, have at it

Had my first run in the hills today!! Worked out good, left and right turns was stil in my legs from the old days!

Thanks for all the tips i have gotten here i will take that out with me in the hills!
