ok so i posted something looking for skis in the buy/sell forum, but i figgured id put this here...iv always snowboarded and im looking to try out skiing...ive ridden skis on basic runs no problem (borrowing my sisters skis haha) but i really i wanna try out the park...im 5'8" and 130lbs
would this ski be okay for me? (im assuming id order the 158 size)http://www.evogear.com/outlet/skis/rossignol-scratch-ghetto-pro-2008.aspx
iv only got till midnight tonight to get the deal that ther only 120 bucks so let me know fast haha

Yeah they will be fine for you for park. Def go with the 158's I mean they may be a little bit short but due to the fact your just learning it will make it alot easyer. I would deffently go with them, killer skis for a killer price.

Short skis are great to learn on but after a year your going to want something longer. I'd suggest going up to a 170 or so. If you get the 158s then you'll be happy for the first season and then after that you'll probably want to go bigger. Spend the extra cash now for a ski that will last you a few more seasons.

alright thanks...any recommendations in the way of boots/bindings? is 8.5 shoe = 26.5 boot pretty standard or are those something i should buy in person?

ya boots are definitely something you want to try on in a store with a good boot fitter. i don't know much about boots so i cant give any recommendations, but ask around the store and you'll get what you need (try to go to a legit ski shop too- they are far more helpful!)

Wow, I am the exact same size as you. Height weight shoe size and everything. I wear 26.5 SPK Kaos' and they fit. But you should deffiniatley buy boots in person. As far as skis go, I use 171s. So yeah, once you get good you'll want something bigger but those sound good for your first year.

I would for sure get those skis, plus they are a super good price. Way to be learning how to ski by the way! It's tons of fun, you'll enjoy it. Rip It Up!!

good choice for trying skiing but ya 158 should be fine and buy boots in persson because foot width and height varys

thanks for all the help one more thing...do i have to wait to buy bindings till ive got boots or are bindings a standard thing...and also with my weight and skill level what din range should i be looking at?

That is something you need to get fitted for. Go to your local shop and get fitted and try on a few different boots.

nah you can get the bindings before you get the boots it doesnt matter...but you do need the boots when you get the bindings mounted to the skis. just don't buy kids bindings. and im not an expert on this but i would say for you a good din would probably be 4. im 5' 7", 120 and i have mine at 6 but ive been skiing longer than you...good luck with the skiing dude

if that deal turns to shit somehow i got a pair of 06(i think) fischer bigstix (the twintip version) that id be willing to sell for cheap. good for park and all around skiing too and they still work great however they have minor topsheet damage, one of the edges in the back tip is off and i had them remounted to 1 cm back from center (i was going to mount them true center but the guy drilled holes through the ski by accident and had to mount them 1 cm back lol) pm me if youre interested and if you want pictures.

boots are def not something you wanna buy just for the price. it's basically your most important piece of equipment and its super important you get correctly fitted at a shop, otherwise you are just not gonna be able to control those wooden planks underneath your feet.

yeah man those would be fine for u. in like a year u would probly have to get taller ones but yeah do it up.

id get spk kreations for boots. not too expensive and a good boot to start off with. wayy comfortable

look sweet

you guys are stupid. the ghetto pro is a kids ski. get the normal ghetto in a 167 thats actually a good size for you

but the normal ghetto isnt 120 bucks and im a po college kid
i think i might end up going with used stuff im starting to think i cant even justify the 120 by the time i get boots bindings and poles

well my parents are paying for the flight to and stay at the marriot at heavenly as my christmas gift, so theres no way i can ask for anything else haha...i work a job in the summer but im on the track team here at school so i dont have time for a job...plus i go to a bar school so nights out are costing me way more than they sould for most college kids so im really strapped for cash right now

dude those r the cheapest skis you can find new that r good. the boots u wanna get fitted and bindings just look for the cheapest adult bindings u can find. the place where u get them mounted will figure the din and everything. those skis will do everything you want and should last a while. i'd get em cause a deal like that dont come around too often.

i completely understand what ur saying, im just starting to notice that people sell urban beaters on here for like 60$...obviously if i love skiing ill get myself a nice set next season but for now its just something to dick around on to see if i like it...i still might end up ordering these i jsut really cant decide i wish the deal lasted one more day haha

if ur going up around tahoe and u need to get boots get them fitted at Elite Feet theres one shop in Squaw and one at northstar stop in and ask for Bob or Christian u cant go wrong. there the best fitters in tahoe i work at the shop so def get ur boots there. they wont be cheap but ull get ur boots fitted right with a gurantee behind it. Thell make ur boots feel like slippers after their done with them.

Dude, 5'8 and riding on 158's? That seems super short... I would go with at least a 164. For deals look around the Buy/Sell/Trade Forum. In the long run you will be happier that you went with longer skis.

Do you have a sufficient collection of Tall Tee's?

now i'm gonna come out in advance; for the record, I'm a racer. That said, you should still listen to what I have to say.

Your shoe size is not your boot size. I'm a 11 1/2, but I wear a 9 ski boot. Thats a little extreme for you, but the idea is you can always have a boot tech shave out the inside of a boot to make it fit better, but if its too big you can't do anything about it. Your boots should hurt like a mofo when you try them on, and you won't feel happy with them until you're a few ski-days in. Its just the nature of ski boots. the better fitting (aka closer fitting/tight) your boots are, the faster they will respond to you when you move your feet, its as simple as that. You dont want to feel like you're piloting an oil tanker or something with your feet swimming in the bootliners.

thats my 2 cents. welcome to the light side

check tramdock.com and even look at geartrade.com they are both run by backcountry. geartrade has LEGIT skis for cheap. just takes some looking. and you could probably pick up cheap bindings in the BUY/SELL/TRADE forum.

just keep your eyes open and welcome to NS

P.S. go to your local TJ Maxx and stock up on Tall Tees. Other wise most users won't talk to you

thanks for all the positive replies

and i got plenty of tall tees...i came from snowboarding, not skiblading haha
