New TGR Movie Review

i understand what OP is saying though. The trailer for their movie this year screams WME vibe. from the narration to the travel to the obvious sponsor product placement. That said. both will be movies to see live, drink beer, and yell at the screen while some dude rips a nasty line in AK. thats the preseason hype we need. Not some 1min instagram edit clip....

Warren Miller and Warren Miller entertainment are two very different things.

This ^. Listen to Level 1’s “Level 20” Refresh podcast for a little education on the matter.

Not to hate too hard on TGR but I really wish the Stept crew continued doing their own projects — because I could give a damn about the rest of the movie I just want to see Clayton & Cam’s segment

bruh i saw their movie last year it was just the most awful thing. The entire thing was just ads, not a single segment wasn't sponsored and they put the focus on the product not the skiing.

Rather bummed about the path TGR has been on. Some of my favorite movies were High Life, Tangerine Dream, Anomaly, etc. They need to get back to ski porn roots. The same people, same segments, and same shit these last few years. Still love them though.

Especially when the latter thinks they own the former.

Spark Notes:

WME tried to sue Level 1 after they had Warren Miller narrate part of their movie 'Refresh'. Then WME tried to sue Warren Miller himself stating that he effectively sold his voice to WME for the rest of his life.

This happened 10 years ago but it still pisses me off now that im reminded of it.

I agree, but for a different reason. I specifically DON'T want to see urban in a ski movie. The urban segments in TGR I simply skip over. I would prefer they leave the urban skiing out. I don't watch TGR movies to see someone slide rails.

I think the only urban I have ever particularly liked was the JP segment in All.I.Can. That was cool.

Dude, so unfair to compare WME to TGR. At least WME takes care of their athletes and doesn't expect them to foot the bill of all of their shoots without prior notice.

I recall what you're mentioning but I can't remember the specific circumstances. Can you remind me of what went down?

The man is a fucking legend. The film company was cool when Warren was involved. WME can go fuck itself. Shutting down Warren, suing level 1, and make cheesy walmart cash grabs of ski movies.

Fuck WME

Interesting story about WM. Way back in WWII he served on a submarine chaser in the Pacific Theater and helped rescue his crew during a hurricane shortly before the war ended. My grandfather also served on a different Sub chaser in the Pacific and used to always tell me this story of when they got caught in a huge hurricane and they watched another damaged sub boat get run onto a beach and everyone jumped out and ran into the jungle for cover.

When Warren Miller passed I read some news stories and it clicked that he may have actually been on that sub chaser that my Grandfather watched during the storm. It may have been a different boat but it would be interesting to think my Grandpa actually saw Warren Miller in service during WWII.

Anyway, this was the boat WM was on:

OP did you see the new movie or are you just going off the trailer?

He saw it. It’s kind of a trash film unless you like seeing 12 year olds getting exploited.

I went to the SLC premiere this week.

Honestly, I thought the film was fine, but I’m used to level 1 movies. More freestyle and urban skiing, and no so much just backcountry lines. The urban segment that was in the movie was awful, it was like 50 seconds and the tricks they did were unimpressive and the filming of said tricks was even worse. To me, watching people ski lines from a helicam view for almost 2 hours starts to get boring. You can only get so hyped when someone bombs a tight shute or jumps some rocks in that long of a movie.

Long story short, I’m much more excited for the Romance premiere in SLC :)

No proof/backup of your statement. Got it.

Getting multiple athletes to post on NS backing up my statement at the risk of losing their relationships with TGR thus affecting their careers as professional skiers? Yeah bro, I'm sure they'll jump on that opportunity.

Thanks for the useless reply

what's the deal with the TGR dead movie trailer that played at the SLC premiere before the movie?. As a dead head I'm quite intrigued especially since it sounds like bill Waltons voice in there which if that's the case I have no idea how TGR has that much pull to make that happen, Bill Walton and the Dead are legends in that scene.

It is possible to make a longer Big Mountain/BC movie entertaining though, Numinous was fire. Every segment in that movie has a different feel and focus with a variety of filming styles. That's what makes a good ski movie. TGR movies are boring cause they lack creativity, not because of the skiing content.

I did not see this. Please tell me more. TGR did have the stokemobile on the east coast leg of dead and cos tour this past summer.
