New Skis Feeling

When they aren’t charging $80 for a mount and then fucking it up, yeah lol

Employees are chill but some of the pricing is ridiculous because they’re the only shop in the valley. Quite literally had a tech make fun of me for buying off evo, said “come to us there’s a reason we are the ski PROS” then proceeded to mount my bent chets in a way where the heel piece was coming out of the ski within a month...

Ouch. Yeah I definitely feel that. I’ve been shopping there my whole life and always have scored some pretty good deals with trade ins and the avalanche sale over the years but I definitely wish they had a bit more variety in high end gear these days, though I know the demand just isn’t there. They mounted those Jeffrey 102s for me a couple weeks ago for $50 since I got the pivots from them, no complaints so far.

Just curious, what part of the phx are you from?

Anyone tryna help me pick out a new pair of skis? I'm looking for something under $600ish (not including bindings) that would be almost entirely for park. I want something pretty soft and buttery but not nearly as soft as the blends but still hold decently on backseat landings. Also trying to stray away from line cause of durability reasons. If anyone's got suggestions I'd love to hear them thanks.

$600 is a big budget for park skis without bindings haha. I'd get some ARV96s and be $200+ under budget. Or e dollos if you want a little more park specific flex and premium materials

I’m up north right off 101 when it starts to curve around. Kinda close to Desert Ridge. I appreciate their presence in the valley but I find myself shaking my head every time I’m inside. Prices are nowhere near reality, you can pull up exact same gear online for way less, and they’ve messed up more than one mount for me in the past 3 seasons so I can’t really even say the shop techs are great at their job. I mean, I’m sure some are but the reality is they don’t live around snow so their knowledge is limited. If you ever go up to Flag, I really like Ski Haus ?

EDIT: if you’re a local, I swear I saw people riding the new gondola on the web cam today but can’t get confirmation anywhere

Gotcha I’m from east mesa, graduated from red mountain. I’m going to school out in California this year so I haven’t hit sb yet this season, though I might next week. I’ve done a couple big bear trips so far though.

Ive got some NAU friends that went today so I’ll check with them to see if it’s spinning yet.

Hell yeah I was going to say I feel like I’d notice some Jeffrey 102s with pivots up there. Big bear is a hell of a time!

I screen shotted this earlier today I mean they’re lined up. Don’t know what else they’d be doing right there...

J skis Allplay or Vacation would be good, Vishnu, Moment Frankenski. Those aren't really in your budget tho.

Surface has some decently soft stuff (can't remember names off the top of my head), and they are pretty cheap.

Just about every ski you listed is out of stock lmaoo.

It sounds funny but I always randomly fall my first or second run on new skis. My body is so programmed to the width flex etc of the last pair it throws me off exactly once.

Friend just texted me saying it started spinning 2 days ago. Not gonna lie, I’ll definitely miss the old Ag. Lots of joints smoked, beers drank, and good times had on that lift over the years. Still not really sure what the point of the gondola cars is. Oh well lol

Damn, I’ve seen them spinning but not loading for a few weeks now. Guess I’ll find out. There’s definitely no need for an enclosed gondola haha but it will be sweet. They just needed a high speed lift to cut down the time but that’s about it.

I think the reckoner 102 might be really good for you. In the roofbox review they described it as soft with a backbone.

They officially cut the ribbon on the new lift. It’s a trip, there’s one line for gondola riders and then like 4 lines for the chairs. Gondola line moves slow, obviously, but they were cranking through the chair lines on a Saturday like no wait whatsoever. Loading the gondola takes a little time so it’s not as fast as it could be but still a major time improvement over the OG Agassiz
