New Ski Site needs Bloggers!!

Hey NS,

We’ve started a new website and ski co. that supports all things core and independent in our industry.

In addition to selling skis from select ski companies, we'll be supporting up-and-coming skiers, artists, production companies, underground clothing companies, and anything else that relates to the lifestyle we live.

To start, we're looking to bring on 1-3 people to handle social media and site posts. You'll be open to write about whatever you want - videos, edits, comps, industry events, urban, park, big-mountain, legit skiers, new music, new art, production companies, industry photographers, videographers, ski reviews, concerts, new songs, new dj's, nights out, day raging...pretty much anything that is independent of mainstream reviews.

This is a legit opportunity to get involved in the industry and support worthwhile people and companies in our industry in a completely unbiased way. If you're interested, send us some writing samples along with a short background on your writing and skiing style to the emails below.

info@oneskico.com, jordan@oneskico.com

You don't have to be a journalism major - we're just looking for people that will write openly and bring a creative perspective to the site.

Thanks guys. We look forward to reading your samples -

Hey, yeah guys, the position is paid.

The site isn't trying replace NS - just a source to buy skis from legit companies and rep our lifestyle in a completely independent way.

Give us more of a pitch of what the website is about... details, details, details!!

If you're going to come on NS and pitch a site which will grab journalists and traffic.... let us know what its about!

You should also get in touch with Schmuck. We're all about featuring new stuff on the interwebz of ski.

For sure. The main focus of the site is to spread the good word on independent and deserving freestyle and freeski brands. We wanted to offer a way to hear more about legit companies, read reviews on them, and buy skis from them - new, past year, demos, etc.

The second focus of the site is to support all things independent in our industry - art, music, production, skiing etc.

- If there’s a legit skier, make him known.

- If there’s some new beats for urban, let’s hear it.

- If there’s a solid new production company, let’s see what they’ve got.

The third focus of the site is to represent the lifestyle we lead in a completely straight-forward way through posts, pictures, edits, and eventually, on-the-hill demos, a video series, concerts, events, etc.

At the root of it, we're about keeping our industry independent. Keeping our efforts completely grass-roots. And letting what people want to see dictate the future of it.

We have a lot of ideas and we’re pretty open to what comes next - we just want to make sure it's done right and all in good time.

I'll pm Schmuck and let him know of the concept / launch date, +k for the head's up, thanks a lot

For sure will.

Thanks also to everyone, who sent their samples and write-ups to us. Really good stuff, keep em coming!

What is your value add on top of the already established ski websites?

Compare to say the fact that there's community on TGR / NS, lots of content on Freeskier/Powdermag, tonnes of features about up-and-comers on NS, and a raw-edgy source like brobomb?

Definitely not attacking, just super curious. New businesses can oft be well described by their value add to the space.

No worries, I very much respect and agree with what you're saying. Let me try to answer it all as best I can.

1. While we'll have opportunities to become a member and have incentives through skis/gear over time, we're not looking to establish a community in the same way that TGR and NS have already done.

2. Freeskier/Powder have a ton of quality content and I always like reading through it. The differentiator would be providing a place for a completely unbiased view - something we feel is exceedingly rare in our industry.

3. NS does a great job backing up-and-comers - we'd only look to further support new skiers and production companies, and also incorporate an element for new art, music, etc.

4. Yeah, we love what the guys at Brobomb put out there. That said, I don't think there's anyone who would want less raw and edgy material online.

These points aside, we have a few value add points from a -

Retail perspective -

1. Provide an early look of lines

2. Free-shipping on goods - We fully support the prices independent companies lay out. Between the sustainable materials, limited production, and dedication that goes into every line, the value they provide is rarely matched by larger vendors in today's industry. However, us ski bums could always use some help here and there so we're covering the cost of shipping.

3. Provide on-the-hill demos for independent companies so they can be skied and tested

Brand perspective -

1. Focus on skiers and production companies but also art, music, and other aspects of our lifestyle

2. Produce future webisodes with a focus on skiers and support for independent brands

3. Support for independent companies and artists through concerts and events

Site perspective -

1. Truly listen to what everyone is saying and let that dictate the future of our site and initiatives

2. Focus on keeping the site real beyond growing it quickly

3. Provide a fully-integrated source for all these things

Again, a lot of these are future goals that will need to be developed over time. We want the concept to be developed by the skiers themselves in a completely grass-roots way. That said, any value identified moving forward will always be listened to and incorporated into our initiatives.

Hope this helps with what we're about and where we plan to differentiate in the future.

Andddd to keep things slightly more low-key, we're almost through looking through all your samples, really legit stuff.

If anyone else would like to send over their work, there's still a couple days left. Send it on through -

info@oneskico.com

Hey hey, we're literally open to any type of samples you want to send so long as it shows your style of writing. Like I mentioned, you don't have to have a journalism degree or sound overly-professional, it's more about bringing an authentic style and point of view. You're free to write about our sport and industry in any way you want so long as it's real.

Hey buddy, very much appreciate this. We'd been waiting to do any promotion until the site was up but any and all support for the concept is super valuable and always appreciated. +k to you

I agree. This sounds to me like he want's to compete with NS and take some NS members with him.... Just another business owner's opinion here:)

Except that he/she already stated above that they're not attempting to produce a community that resembles NS/TGR.

No worries, never mentioned it. We were looking to a 2012-2013 winter launch but there may be an early drop for summer. I'll keep you guys posted -

Hey, just to let you know, we have the ultimate respect for NS and what it's done for our ski community. We're not looking to take any NS members and I wouldn't expect anyone to stop going to NS because it offers a very legit thing for us. We're simply offering the ski community a place for backing the independent brands and aspects of skiing. I plan to keep my NS and TGR membership throughout this process and for a long time to come.

Hey guys,

Thanks so much to everyone that wrote in to us. There was a lot of great work and it was hard to narrow it down for sure. Everyone should have gotten an email back this morning - if not, let me know and I'll make sure we get to it.

In the meantime, it looks like there's some solid writers on board. Good things to come...

Hey guys,

It's been awhile so I want to give an update on where everything is at.

Crew -

Last month, we brought some solid writers and videographers to the project, and a few photographers in the past few days that will be contributing a lot of good stuff to our efforts.

Site -

With any luck, we'll be launching within the next 2 weeks but even still, I imagine the site will be a work in progress for some time to come so any and all feedback and insight we can learn from you guys will be important to hear moving forward.

Social Media -

If anyone has a solid background and interest in social media, feel free to give a shout to info@oneskico.com. We're looking for 1-2 kids that are down to develop our social media efforts in the upcoming months as it's been laggggging.

To the NS community that is down for the cause and believes in the independent aspect of our sport, any support you guys can give before, during, or after the site launch through likes, feedback, follows, and comments, etc, will always be welcomed and appreciated.

Facebook -http://www.facebook.com/OneSkiCo

Twitter -https://twitter.com/1skicompany

As always, we're stoked to hear any thing you have to say and look forward to what's ahead.

Bump for social media. Anyone that is down for the cause, in a ski town this season, able to do tweets and posts on events, skiing, gear, music, art, random ski life, hit us up at info@oneskico.com

Thanks guys

More to come..

Just make sure to use our news system to share your articles. That makes it a win for everyone!

Quick update guys. The site went live last night but there was some difficulty with the initial transfer so we're just working to make sure all the images and links are squared away.

Everything should be good to go soon and we'll have some give-aways coming up -

ha...yeah, mike blatt productions.

Quick update -

We still have the following Moment skis in stock. All shipping west of NE is still free.

Park

1. Vice in a 178 - http://www.momentskis.com/shop/product/vice/

All-Mountain

1. Tahoe in a 170 and 180 - http://www.momentskis.com/shop/product/tahoe/

2. Death Wish in a 184 - http://www.momentskis.com/shop/product/deathwish/

Big-Mountain

1. Bibby in a 190 - http://www.momentskis.com/shop/product/bibby-pro/

Powder

1. Night Train in a 186 - http://www.momentskis.com/shop/product/night-train/

It’d also be legit to get some feedback on the site – good,

bad, otherwise – so we can start taking that all into account. www.oneskico.com

Namely –

1. How does the site look and is it easy to follow?

2. In the future, would you prefer we sell new skis or would

it be better to focus on finding good deals for new/demo/used gear? Or some

combination of the both

3. What would you like more focus on next – music to ski to,

independent clothing companies, artists, up-and-coming skiers, etc?

4. We’re looking to get black OSC facemasks with our red logo made. Would people be down to buy for $10 each?

EndFragment

I write for a living, I'm pretty removed from the park game and finding new riders but if you even need some 'introspective'...not sure if that's the best way of phrasing it...but ex. an article you would find in powder/ski mag, let me know and I'll write a few up.

Honestly??? Only free shipping west of the Mississippi when you could grab the entire east coast for a tiny extra fee. That is what pisses me off when places advertise stuff that isn't entirely true. I get no international but at least make it the entire us

Yeah dude, I hear you. If you check it out though, it's more than just a nominal extra fee. We're hoping to be able to do fuller shipping in the future but for the time-being, we're just broke-ass ski bums ourselves trying to help where we can, as we can
