New ski game, inspired by the TGR Tracks game

Afterbang button? No. I've been considering a claim button though. If you tap it fast enough you'd drop

The one killer feature I wanted to put in is on hold for now, so I'm going to focus on some different stuff. The next version will let you drag cliffs around to change the level, have some effects with snow spraying around, and maybe write what flip/spin you just landed. The skier will be a bit larger. The cliff dragging stuff has changed how I do some collision detection for the cliffs, and that makes the game run a bit better on slower computers.

i agree. cause now if you want to play n the other side of the game you cant just go there. you have to put it at the end of the scree. then fsall etcetc

It would be dope if you could make the skis form a slight "V" when you backflip so it would look more natural and layed out.

The game is sick.

that sounds sick JGP... what about if you put all the features and stuff in a "feature bank" and could save your map and post it up on NS? I think that would be sick...

Its dope right now so dont add to much stuff or it may lose some of the fun that is in its simplicity. K.I.S.S Keep It Simple Stupid.

I agree to adding points, but i don't like how the guy got smaller. I also thin you should add more grabs and a restart button.

Dope dope game bro!

i liked the random starting too... maybe if you could have an option of grabs as well, and a restart button... along with what everyone else suggested... also when i do a backy it makes my screen scrolls all the way down to the bottom so I can't see where im going... Maybe there is a way to fix this? I dunno....

Looking forward to the next update! ++k

dont use internet explorer and it wont scroll down when you backflip, or front flip depending on if theres any scrolling up or down to be done. I had the same problem with the computer I use at work (i know, not what iam supposed to be doing) using internet explorer, so i switched to firefox, which in my opinion is a much better browser, and the problem was solved.

God I love this game Quaz. Whats going to be updated with the next version? It would be sick if you could be zoomed in a little farther but maybe its just because my resolution is redic (1440x900). Keep up the good work. P.s. its epic to see how many people have ranked your karma 10/10

Lets see if I can cover everything on page 9 in one post.

Yes, you can land lincolns any way you want. I'm still working out the math that checks for crashes on flip/lincoln combinations. 1/2 a lincoln and 1/2 a flip is something you could land. 3/4 of a backflip and 1/4 of a lincoln doesn't equal landing on your feet, so there is more to it than just adding the degrees of rotation on both axis.

For random starting vs choosing where to start, I'm thinking of putting in a starting area you start from a random point inside of. If you make the starting area smaller, it will be like starting at the target. If you make the starting area bigger, it will be much more random. Or maybe just a random start on/off switch. That would be simpler.

For now, you can zoom out and move the starting point all the way across the level at once.

Karma has gone up about 5000.

Yes, the skier has pencil steeze. More variation in stances is way down the todo list. At one point I had it looking over it's left or right shoulder depending on which way it was turning switch, but through some weird ass math the 3D engine does it also flipped all the surfaces on the skier inside out which looks pretty weird.

Level saving is also way down to do list. First I need to get level editing working. I have draggable cliffs working, but is raises other issues like how to move the trees out of the way when a cliff moves, how much control to give vs how complex do I want the editor to be.

EA needs to stop making sequels. I think Enlighter is working on a much larger ski game, but I haven't heard anything about it in a while.

The skier will be larger, but not by much. He looks really bad up close. His head is a cube, his legs have 3 sides each, and he doesn't have hands. And I don't know how I just assigned him a gender.

The arrow key making browsers scroll is weird, but that's why WASD works for controlling the skier too. The game runs better in IE than Firefox 2 for some reason. Firefox 3 seems better.

DNA Spin.... oh the memories. That really inspired my earlier attempts at doing a ski game.

Next version? I want to do some basic level editing stuff (repositioning the existing cliffs), a better zoom out view, and some snow spraying effects so it really looks like you are riding powder. Probably 3 or 4 days away from covering all that, so I'll do some some smaller in-progress releases to keep people interested.

Could that not be handled by an arragement of simple IF statements checking for degrees roatated in a given direction (coupled with a list of acceptable ranges for each)?

Probably something like that Ryno. To me, figuring that out isn't as interesting as

screwing around with the level design or trying to make the game run faster

on a wider variety of computers, so I haven't given it much thought. I

don't throw a lot of lincolns when I play, so I don't notice

the problem as much as other people do. More people are pointing it out now, so maybe I'll bump it up the todo list.

Could you maybe try to do something about the turns... maybe try to make them more like those from tgr tracks, like when you pick up speed and the turns get larger

^there's a cool interview with the creator of the game!

i have wasted so much time on this game.

if you go all the way to the left you can hit the first cliff and gap the second so you get crazy time to do tricks like

2160's

quadruple lincoln loop 1080's

and other fun stuff

You cant actually gap the second cliff, you always just touch down right before it. As far as I know.
