new ski companies

it seems to me that within the last year or 2 all these small companies are popping up, to others it surprising, well that's how it seems to be looking at some of the other threads, but look at snowboarding i mean after a certain point of progression you have all the garage based companies poping up (forum, libtech, quantum) and any other small company., and i've seen people bitching that now there's to many comapnies and to much competition, it was going to happen, someone has a new idea or want something else that noone makes so they make there own, not to hard to do anymore. I think it's cool you have line, armada 4front and someone else was talkin about outlaws, this is the start of the progression, skiing is going to out number snowboarding again soon

the problem w/ skiing's new companies in my opinion is that they can probably survive through kids wanting to look cool. yes i've heard great things about armada's even first hand but just about everyone who has them is buying them because a few pros joined together and made some skis. armada could probably have sold almost as many skis this year even if they were a piece of shit. anyways that's my rant

ya that's true, image is alot and who rides them has alot with how well they sell but all these 'underground' companies just show a new level of progression wich shows how much the sport has grown and is changing

its too bad but you cant choose who you sell to. to make money, you sell skis to young kids so they can look cool.

Forum has been around forever...and there are so many snowboarding companies its ridiculouse...but they are cool..we have no cool ski companies...the only cool ski companies are Line armada, siver cartel, and jib culture...the rest is garbage....we dont have the selection of boards and clothing that snowboarding does.

Back to the thing before, about the guy who said that with the new ski companies, they could basically be selling crap, and people would buy them cause the 'pros' were riding on them. This could be true, but then again the pro's of this sport would never do that. This sport is to dedicated to its riders, its sick. Thats the one thing That I really love about this sport, is that its so pure. I mean, sure you have your shady stingy people who are just dicks to begin with, but you have that with everything in life. But I guess what I am trying to say is that The pro riders like that of tanner hall and boronowski in armada wouldn't ride crap, they wanna ride the best, and at the same time they wanna give the best, I wish for a cheaper cost, but I would rather give the money to a rider based company like that of Armada, or this new company 4front, but don't we all...

I dont know about you guys but I like my Salomon skis I've been riding salomon for two seasons and I'm plenty happy with them. When the industry demo came to my resort I tried tons of different companies. all the skis I tried sucked. It doesnt matter to me how big a company is if they have good stuff I'll use it if not too bad for them I dont care if its Moseleys personal underwear If it stinks I won't use it.

I would never buy Soloman skis just because they care more about racers and old middle aged business men than newschoolers... the only reason they make twin tips is to grab cash from us. They dont care where or how this movement goes. And I'm not just talking about Soloman, but almost all of the big companies.

I think its good for us skiers that its poping up new companys so more skiers can get there names out.

cuz when u look in a skiing magazine there are like 20 pros that are in the same mag over and over again look in a snowboard mag and u can see like 30 new guys every time

five-o, yes line is comin out with a carving ski next year, actually 8. and they are doin that becuz they need the $$$. us twin tippers only make up about 10% of the whole skiing population, so line cant support themsleves with just twin tips. i dont neccesarily agree with the idea,but i kno hwere they r comin frum. they will still focus on skiers like us, but they will also have all mtn. skis. they are also supposed to be the molds frum volkls.

 
the molds are from blizzard i heard, not volkl. not that it matters. the skis will likley still be very gay.

I was talking to a shop owner who was looking into getting solomon twins. They wouldn't sell them to him unless he bought carving, racing, womens and kids skis too. Plus he had to buy their boots and bindings... Still don't believe me?

'carving' ski is the industries latest euphamism for 'recreational' ski. they use this new word so that people who ski like pussies (no need for a twin-tip, not strong enough for a race ski, not adventurous enough for a midfat, or powder ski) don't have to feel like pussies when they go to the shop to buy new skis. cause now they don't have to say they need a rec ski. they want carving skis. yeah! carving! i'm good at turning!

Exactly fuck big corps., everybody is saying that most rider owned companies r gonna go out of business, not unless we all realize its the future of our sport and support it, theres many rider owned companies comin out of no where, 4frnt armada siver th3 plehouse outlaw.....everyone needs to support these companies, yeah armadas may b exspensive..so buy a hat from them, if everybody on the forum gave a little to each rider owned companies, freeskiing would be recognized more and in 5 years armada may b bigger than rossignol and may b even competing with burton, support rider owned companies

oh, ok. a lot of people on this site make ski graphcs (including me) i'd be surprised to find out any are actuall companies. you never know though. there might be some kids out there who can actually do it.

To the people who are talking about how they dont like salomon making shops buy all the equipment, I like salomon skis but don't like that idea. My solution...I bought my salomons on ebay

Hey im no ski shop, im just talking to the single people who want salomon skis but don't like the idea, also they are very cheap on ebay. I got mine for 250 slightly used

 
ya thats ture. y would u want to buy a twintip that is made by a major company(salomon) thAT only has some rider imput on the ski. these rider owned companies realized that the major companies were not making the ski exactly how they wanted it. in the rider owned companies the skis are built around its riders, therefor the ski fits more of our needs and wont have as many problems like delam..and so on. the companies are building there skis better than ever, there becoming more industrictable with less problems like the major companies have.

i don't know if anybody has said this, because i was too lazy to read the whole thread, but the more competition there is between ski componies the better it is for the consumers. it means cheaper skis and forces new technology to be put into the skis. look at the new line binding. once line fixes it i think it will really catch on. people will buy more than one pair of their skis because the bindings are interchange able. the only bad thing about this idea is that if all the companies start doing this, it will force you to buy the bindings that the ski company makes or that they have a contract with the binding comapny
