NEW SKI CHOICE - HELP PLEASE!

I have spent weeks trying to find a new pair of skis, but I am so stuck.

I have my park skis (Armada Pipe Cleaners)...but want something I can go all around the mountain with, charging about.

I love charging the cruddy stuff, and on the side of slopes...but also want something that will hold up in the powder with some drops etc...

I am 6"2 / 190lbs...so obviously guessing I will be needing a ski in the 190's...? Which is ruling some skis like the Bacons and a few more out :( as they only come to around 185 but ski a lot shorter.

So some suggestions would probably go down quite well at the moment as I have too many in my head!

Thanks

My personal experience riding them is zero, but I always think that the JJs look like the greatest ski in the world for all around skiing. AKJJ for those of us who are of a good height.

I have been trying to stay away from something that wide under foot (120)....but it seems I am going to have to lean that way to get ski that is long enough for me...

I wasn't sure how something so wide would hold up in cred & on the groomers.

Apparently the JJ can hold an edge on the hardpack, I don't really know. I just think that they seem like awesome skis! I think you may need to get a little wider to find skis 190+ most people don't need that length unless they're dropping cliffs and charging lines. The only narrower ski that I know of that's over 190 is the Head GTO, otherwise Head have the motorhead range which I think are pretty long skis.

Surface 191 Drifters? long, stiff, got some rocker for your pow days, still 120 underfoot though

Surface New Life comes in a 194 but stance is centered and it might not want to charge as hard for you

Yeh I do like how they read up in reviews. Would a 186 be long enough for me though?

Anybody had any experience with any of the LINE skis? eg Influence/Opus/Bacons?

I am 6'3 185. when doing Iaps of Golden Eagle and Ripsaw@ Beaver Creek all day, which has pretty variable conditions i usually ski Line Blend 183 or Nordica Patron 193. The 113mm patron carve well for a semi-fat ski but on variable conditions, still the 100mm blend is MUCH MUCH better. that being said, the nordica patron is MUCH MUCH better than my other pow skis ( K2 obsethed 189, Surface New Life 194) on variable.

The blends, however, are less stable for drops/cliffs.

I would say for one ski that can handle some deeper pow and cliffs, and still rip on hard or variable conditions rather well, go with the Nordica Patron. They can handle the deep and 20 foot cliffs. if thats what your into.

If your core, go with Moment Governor/Special 196 or Moment Belafonte 187/192. They can handle Legit anything you could think of.. very stif tho, almost planky.

I think given your size and skill level the Bacons might just end up being overpowered. The bacon is great but not a true charger. I would check out the Volkl Mantra. Comes in longer lengths, super strong construction, and rides stiff for a big aggressive skier.

Op your in the UK right? Meaning you dont have access to Moment or ON3P. Ski that you proably have access to is Atomic Access, Atomic Automatic or Volkl gotama

I dont think any of Line skis are significantly chargey. the mantras are noticabley charger. a little stiff for pow but definately doable.

Should've been clearer, my intent was to say the SFB would not be an aggressive enough for his pursuits. The Influence or Prophet 100 could fit the bill, IMO. Line's core construction in those is pretty burly an I've had great experiences maching through all sorts of conditions with Prophets, but I'm smaller than OP.

the 100 is not as charger as the 90 or 98. i think they got rid of the 100 and added an 85 this year.

i am the same size as OP and a type 3plus skier, and since we are talking about them, my tech buddy steers me away from the prophet and towards the mantras.

If you were meaning me, yeh I am from the UK...but everything can always be shipped over!

I don't want to skimp on a pair of skis just because I cannot get some in the UK.

I do like the Volkl's...can get a good price over here too.
