For a class, I am designing a new binding. The brakes would be able to rotate around, making it better for switch riding. For part of the class I project, I need people to fill out surveys. So If you could fill out this survey, and give your input.

how do you break a binding while skiing switch?

i think you should post a diagram of this "reversable" binding.

a blueprint, or something tangable.

sounds like more mechanical breakable stuff on a binding. I break my breaks constantly, I even made a thread about it, TWICE. So if you think you can build a better break i think i would buy it.

umm, i already have 15 days in, so 15+

i ski everything,

never broken a binding, but have had rip outs and tons of broken brakes.

what would a reverable brake do? an then wouldn't it break going normal?

Good idea, but you have to think of a totally new binding, you can't just turn it around, because what happens if you eject while going regular? The same thing will happen when you eject while going switch.

HE IS SAYING YOU COULD ROTATE THE BINDING BEFORE A SWITCH RUN.

and then after the switch run rotate it back.

it would be a piece of shit.
 
the only way i could see that possible working is if it were something like the original mad trix that had the rotating binding plate but that would be gay and still wouldnt work

No I would never buy a binding with a reversable brake. It sounds like the dumbest idea ever. My skis stop just fine when I lose a ski going backwards.

i dont understand, wouldnt reversing the brake just make it so that your brake breaks when you pop out going regular?

I would invest in a freestyle park binding that had a reversible brake that would help to stop bindings from breaking while skiing switch only if my sponsor, Fischer provided them to me for free which they would if they carried that binding.
 
that's not what I'm saying at all. The brake arms would have a spot near the top of them that would be able to pivot around 90° forward. you don't just spin the brake around, when you land switch, if the brake starts to come down, because you are leaning to far forward, instead of catching and pushing the heel piece off, it would use the energy to push the brake arm backward, and thus drag as though you were skiing forward, instead of digging into the snow. You don't need to do anything special, and its just the brake this is different, not the whole binding. And thanks for the help. The only design I have of it is in CAD, but when I get the plastic prototype, I'll post pics of it. Here I'll try to make a quick sketch in paint for you to understand it.
 
Um... you do realize that if the arms just flip back and forth when there is on them that they won't stop a loose ski from going down the hill right?

yea but they only rotate from where they normally are, when riding forward to 90° forward, so when you ride switch they don't drag. they wont be able to rotate more, so they wont drag. The problem I had was to stop them from dragging, when they are suppose to be up riding and not releasing.... here im making the paint photo now.

so what if your ski came off switch, would it still catch on the brake then? or would it just flip?

if the answer is no then you would halve to have it pretty hard to spin around and yet easy enough to not break the break right?
 
the brake would come out, but instead of jabbing into like it normally would, it would come out and extra 90° so it would be able to drag going switch. That was my problem was how hard I wanted it to be to rotate it around. Turns out it's quite a bit of force, so it makes it easier to work.
