**warning**

this is long

**end warning**

So I am in the process of getting my gear bought up for this season (I broke last years gear in many pieces so it's time to fork over the money) and I have run into a few issues.

Boots were easy - get a new pair of 1080s. i loved them, and decided to give them a go again.

Skis..thats a different story :)

I was going back and forth between motherships and skogen sprang pros. Im a whore for the park, but at the same time, I'd rather spend every waking moment in waist deep freshies. After about 2 months of debating with myself, I decided I will go with the motherships and then when I can afford it, also pick up a pair of skogens.

Next came the bindings. I had my heart set on the line reactor bindings, but due to a few issues, line didnt release them this winter (they are slated to arrive for the 04/05 season) so I had to start a search for conventional bindings. i decided upon the rossi scratch 140s. Now my problem with the bindings is this. I remember last year people's bindings were blowing up on pocket rockets because the legs werent wide enough and when the brake would activate, the fat ski would put pressure on the legs and they would eventuall break off...will i experience this with the motherships with the 104 bindings? anyone have any experience with this?

thanks for any help :)

my firend got the motherships and he is getting a wider brake for his p-12s, so u can do that,

i think the brake is around 20bucks

you wont have this problem is the guy who mounts em has half a brain, the brakes can be widened on most recent bindings, im not sure about the scratch bindings but they probably can. also the scratch bindings are made to work with the bc so theyre already wide as hell anyways

Why not split the difference between the Motherships and the Skogans and get the Pollard Pro's? 86mm in the waist, if I recall.

Also, you can bend the shit out of normal brakes to fit the Mothership, but the brakes won't do shit to stop your ski on hardpack and they'll dig into the sidewall a little bit.

In conclusion: Get the Pollards, bend the non-fat brakes out a tiny bit, eat your cake and have it too.

cool! glad to know :)

im taking my mo-ships to a line tech and having him mount the bindings...that way its done correctly the first time.

the brakes on the rossi/look pivot bindings (which is what you have) are a separate piece, chances are, wherever you go to have your skis mounted will have some wide brakes in stock, if not, they can order em.

the issue with the pollard pro's is they are 186 long and im only 5'4'; so they would be just a tad to long :)

the mo-ships are 172 and the sprangs are 176. i was looking on line's site for specs on the pollards, but they dont even list them *shrug*.

for those that care...

i settled on the 176 sprang pros as my all purpose ski. the 78mm waist should prove to be fat enough (rode 1080s last winter so its a big difference) for powder, and i know they can handle park riding like a champ.

thanks for all the help tho!!

NoTeefa, the $30 they'll charge you for the fat brakes is rape. Ski shops are probably making at least $20 on each pair. That's why I try to avoid them.

seand is 5'4'? I'd go even shorter dude.

with 178s i was completely comfy with spins and grabs and steeps and the bumps. last year i ran a set of 155 1080s and they felt way to short when cruising through anything deeper than 5 inches.

then again, i also had a pair of 135 1080s for the park :)

176 should be just about right for me- i give myself 2 weeks and the skis will be 2nd nature to me.

im going to just widen the brake on the scratch 140s myself if needed. they are made for the scratch bc skis, and they have a waist of what..90? so they are super fat. the sprangs are only 78. since these bindings wont be going on moships, i dont have to worry about that extra 8mm of girth :)

maybe im more like 5'5', but still, im not tall.

yo my ne-gro get them mo shipz.

I'll cum harder than R.Kelly at chucky cheeze.

I'll take out your 'left eye' like TLC.

my shop won't charge for a wider brake, Rossi does'nt charge for the part. Now salomoron on the other hand, when asked if they had a wider brake to accomadate their wide skis said they didn't think so. In fact the person I spoke with didn't even know what i was talking about and wanted to call me back with an answer, then never called back. Go with the rossi/Look safer and more solid.

May the seed of your loins be fruitful in the belly of a lamb...

my din has always been cranked way down for a sumo downhiller :)

and brakes are stupid; id much rather let those downslope from me have to worry about run away skis :)

just buy wide breaks. the shop might even just give them to you, depending on the shop.

PLEATH! SNOWBEH! NO!!!

i got skoges and i had the same problem-narrow brakes. i was gunna but reactors but after reading the stuff about the toe cracking off, i decided against it. last year i was so pissed 1 day i jusct bent the brakes on some shitty solomons but now i can't keep the skis together when i carry them. if ne 1 has sugesstions on bindings for the skoges, please help.
