Long story short I am looking for a more technical outerwear setup and dont really want to spend a bunch of money.

Ive been touring alot recently and want a tighter fitting jacket and pants than what i have now.

I am looking for a shell type jacket and very waterproof pants.

What sizes should i be looking for if I am 5'10 160lbs

Thanks for any help

Problem is, cheap and technical outwear don't typically go in the same sentence. You're best bet for deals would be to wait until the end of the season when the big retailers are off loading current seasons stock to make room for the next.

Fit wise with jackets Arc'Teryx fits narrow, Patagonia tends to fit long, and The North Face tends to fit short. With pants, they're all about the same with Arc'Teryx being a little on the slim side.

Can't speak for other brands as I've had no experience with them.

Also if you're doing a lot of touring you may want to look at a nice technical (synthetic down, nice and breathable) mid layer or soft shell.

Trew makes great gear that wont break the bank and is lightweight, breathable and waterproof. I wear a L jacket and pants and they fit great. Im 6'2'' and the coat covers my ass while not being wide and baggy. You could get by with a M or go with a L if you want more of the baggy park look.

The Saga 3L is a pretty nice fabric for the price (jackets are 320 and pants are 250), however I haven't really been impressed with it's durability in the stitching. After 7 or 8 days one cuff has already come apart on the bottom seams. I'm selling them and switching to the Faction Edison bibs. I only mention the saga ones though as they could be a good cheaper option, but you get what you pay for in the end.

Sabek Switch Jacket is exactly what you are looking for. Has a pow skirt for your touring and is technical but more of a warm shell than a real jacket. They are 50% off right now on the website. You'll want an XL most likely, they are a skinnier jacket, maybe you could get by with a Large but it would be cutting it close. I think this is a perfect match for you.

I like Flylow. I've got 2 Quantum Pros, a King Down, Magnum BC and Compound pants. All in L. I'm 5'11/195 and the L is a good fit(pants are a touch long).

If I would live in Murica, I would definitely go with a jacket from:
http://www.freeridesystems.com/

100% produced in America, materials too. 389$ for a Jacket is maybe a bit over your budget, but you can write a message to the owner, either over TGR or via e-mail and he will give you the (TGR) promo code. I think thats about 20-30% off. Result: Around 300 bucks for a really solid and long lasting jacket.

nwt3k.com makes really nice stuff too, but maybe a little bit too pricey for you?

I am not really happy with the durability of the big brands, aka. The North Face, Patagonia and Flylow. I made my worst experience in BC with a Flylow jacket.

Atm I am using two different Armada jackets and both are well made and really durable. But Armada 3L Goretex stuff is pretty pricey.

.

Yeah there's a reason retailers are dropping flylow left and right. Not terrible materials but the fits suck (and I'm not even talking about length, they just overall fit like shit) and the branding is so watered down.

I have a brand new pair of Trew Eagle Pants size large, never worn at all. They are 20K waterproof and 20K breathability. I took the tags off because i thought i wanted to keep them but then decided i wanted to go baggier so i got XL. Im looking for $175. Check the pics out and get at me if you're interested.
