yeah, i know there's another thread about it, but Im sure no one cares about hurricane katrina, so they don't click on that thread, which is why I made this one with a title that would catch your attention.

Anyways, hurricane katrina is a categorie 5 with 165 m/h winds(hurricane andrew was a cat. 4 at about 140 m/h winds I think). And new orleans is below sea level(like 5-10 feet below). It's gonna flood so bad. My prayers go out to all the people out there.

yea I do. They're turning the Superdome into a last refuge for people without transportation. Because a lot of the people in the city just use public transit and don't have a vehicle to evacuate with. How hard it must be to evacuate that many people

its supposed to have a 20 foot storm surge with 40 foot waves. thats higher than their dikes, so basically NO is gonna flood, and the dikes will hold all the water in. my prayers are heading out.

oh yeah. the old part of new orleans, the french quarter, is above sea level. It's because of the bend in the river(it's on the outside) that silt and stuff piled up so that it's above sea level. It was a good location for a port way back when when the mississiappi was really important. when the city expanded, they had no place to build so they had to drain swamps and build down I guess.

I love hurricanes, i used to live in the carribeans, and Hugo, one of the biggest storms ever came by when I was 6 months old. Cant remember that one but some others, hearing the warnings on the radio and stock up on food and i remember the top floor of the house was moving back and forth, pretty cool. Well I hope nobody gets hurt in that storm and that everyone is ready...

as of right now it is the third strongest storm in recorded history and is aimed strait at new orleans. I remember watching a show that said if a 5 ever hit n.o. head on, downtown would be floating in 20 feet of water, just to give you a visual.
