New Mic

Hey all, I'm finally looking to buy a shotgun mic since I've found myself a decent income stream. I've been looking into the Takstar sgc-598 or possibly rode videomic go.. I like the sound of the 598 better but I'd like to hear people's experiences with mics while skiing. Or does anybody have any other mic suggestions?

The takstar mics are pretty good. They sound a lot better if you boost the bass a little bit in post. If you're going to be skiing with any type of mic, make sure you use a windscreen, preferably a dead cat style. Without it, your sound quality will be terrible.

Im just curious, why do you like the VMP so much? and can i get it for under 100?

Because its the best dslr/mirrorless camera mic. Spend the money on it, its worth it, mics under 100 won't perform well.

why whats you experiance with it vs other mics... like wind and hiss.

Plus one for the videomic pro if you have the funds. If you don't have upwards of $100, go for the takstar. The videomic has very little hiss overall. It also has that signature rode sound to it that has lots of mids in it. The takstar has quite a bit of his, but it can be fixed in post.

The videomic pro has its own battery, mics that use the camera's battery are usually pretty weak for outdoor use.

no issues with the takstar sgc-598, just get a deadcat on it too. I have the same setup on my camera for filming and it performs great for a ~40$ setup. little to no wind noise on follow cams, just keep the +10db gain and cut filter off
