You're taking me way too seriously my friend. Im sitting in class on my laptop, in the summer, in a class thats easy as fuck. Im so bored, im just having some fun. I truly do hate lil wayne, and i love poking fun at it especially on ns where a bunch of kids love lil wayne. But maybe you should step back, as lax_bro has, and realize that we're talking on the internet and i might not be as serious as you really think i am.
 
Im still surprised you think this site loves lil wayne. Every single thread that has the words lil wayne in it gets immediate hate.

He never hated on you, he hated on a "musician" and you got pissy.

Your posts in this thread make it really obvious you know nothing about the music industry. Lil Wayne affects our lives more than you'd think. With music like his being on the Radio/TV, it shifts attention away from talented, hard working, original artists who bust their asses just to pay rent. It affects me directly because every time I go to a party and hear lil wayne or some autotuned rap artist, it just makes me want to leave. hearing music like that literally puts me in a bad mood sometimes because it makes me lose faith in humanity. We invest our "time" speaking out against people like lil wayne because he doesn't push music in any positive direction, his lyrics are superficial, his beats are unoriginal, and he doesn't promote anything positive or intelligent.
 
how can you even say that? vocals in music are for the majority based off similes and metaphors. i dont care if you listen to kesha, lil wayne, the beetles or fucking john mayor, you simply can't deny that lil wayne has lyrically created some of the best music, along with a few other rappers, well because that's what rap is. You may not agree with what he says, stands for, or even like rap in general, but to say he's not talented and creative is retarted.

1. eheath fights anyone and everyone against his beliefs. this is just another one of those circumstances where these two, and a few others, have gone back and forth.

2. you dont have any self control. If lil wayne effects you so much that you simply can't watch tv or listen to the radio, then you have problems man. first you need to turn off MTV, then you need to turn off the radio or find a different station. i choose not to listen to the radio because it's never recent music and for every good song theres atleast 7 other awful ones.

3. do you know how hard lil wayne works, or any other artist for that matter? you speak as though you know every single one of them, and lil wayne gets a free ride while all the rest are his slaves. if he wasn't talented, he wouldnt have ever made any money.

4. if again lil wayne bothers you so much, then change friends or leave the party. lil wayne makes you depressed, well slip knot does the same to me. its a preference, and no one is forcing you to wear head phones or to go out and have a good time. if music that you don't enjoy ruins that and makes you depressed, again you have problems.

5. how does he not push music in a positive direction. how can you argue that any artist does or doesnt? you could either argue that any artist does because it's more to choose from and keeps people listening to music. or you could base it on fan base, album/ticket sales, and how much they make. personally I think every artist opens up more possibilities, therefor helping music as a whole.

6. how isnt he original? lawl. and doesnt promote anything positive. yeah you're right. money, bitches, and coming from nothing to something isnt positive, but screaming dealth metal, and john mayor's "who says I can't smoke a J" isn't "positive" either.

6. personally, i believe being original means taking a new direction in music that i haven't heard before. it means making music that sounds unique and stands on it's own. i could go on all day on this so i'll stop there. pushing music in a new direction is music like Zion I, where they record with full bands. It's music like STS9, where they take electronic music and use real instruments and experiment with new sounds/directions that you can fuse instrumental electronic music with jam music. it's bands like string cheese incident, where they fused rock and bluegrass and jam music and each artist in the band has their own side projects. oh, and odn't hate on john mayer, the john mayer trio is the shit. john mayer's pinky has more musical talent than lil wayne ever will have.

all that aside, we should meet up and kick it sometime cuz i hear you live in fort collins too.
 
most of the people on this site really don't have a solid enough base knowledge of hip hop to be making all of these qualifications about lil wayne. It takes years and years of listening to hip hop and refining your musical palate to make such a claim. You don't have to love him, but based on the reasons you hate him for pretty much proves that you don't listen to the music on any sort of technical level. You simply hate him b/c you think that if you like "underground hiphop" you are disqualified from enjoying lil wayne or anything outside the underground umbrella term. Any whoever even believes in the "underground" and "hip-hop vs rap" thing is way off the mark. The names that so many of you throw out on here as your go-to list of artists that you believe gives you instant credibility as a hip hop head is always so laughable to me. It's a huge red flag that goes up every time you mention these certain rappers. there are so many fucking dope artists that i have never heard anyone mention probably because they simply haven't taken the time to truly explore the genre. and that is cool in and of itself, but it becomes quite uncool when you start fronting like you know what's up b/c it's super evident you have a slight clue at best.
 
This. I dont think people understand what Wayne has done for the rap game, specifically mixtapes.
He is the reason that we will be listening to crazy amount of free music from lyrically dope artists in the future. Theres a reason why this dude gets so much respect.

3. when lil wayne started rapping years ago, do you think his "image" (which was really nonexistant) let him get to where he his now? no, it was his rap, which makes him talented, because more and more people started listening to him before he blew up or was even known by the average teen. if he didnt, then he would have gone unknown like 95% of other rappers. like I said before, its a personal preference whether you like him, or what he says/stands for. but you can't say hes not talented.

4. you're right. you said you want to leave the party and it puts you in a bad mood. that's fine, its your preference of music, but if a song/artist is playing and its the reason you leave a party, then it's affecting you way too much.

6. lil wayne was one of the first artists to release mixtapes, free downloadable music off the internet that isnt downloaded illegaly, simply because he wanted to share it all and knew it couldn't all be on albums, especially when no one knows who you are. and metaphorically he has changed music, or atleast vocals. your examples of being original are all combining 2 or more already existing types of music into 1. I agree that's creative, and somewhat original, but anymore original than wayne, how so?

and yeah, as long as you don't get up and leave in the middle of a lil wayne or cassidy song because it's put you in a bad mood and you dont agree with it, im down to chill. I personally love to listen for all the little metaphors, that most people don't understand. If you actually read into the lyrics, you'll find hes much more creative than you'd think.

saying lil wayne is bad because its all just stupid vocals/sayings is stupud. its like saying dubstep is bad because it's all the same.

that being said i can not relate to the vast majority of mainstream lyrics. i prefer music that speaks to who i am as a person.

I am not a thug, i don't have problems with the masses talking shit about me and i don't throw out thousands at strip clubs and i've never shot anybody...

but the struggle of being a successful human being, growing up, figuring life out.. that music speaks to me and that's what good hip hop is about

and by no means am I trying to argue musical preference, well because its a preference. just that as much as people do or don't like lil wayne, he's still a talented, creative artist. and its retarted that someone on NS posts a link to share his music, and more than half the posts are just bashing him.

like pantydropper said, how many kids click on a thread discussing something they enjoy or like, just for more people to bash it? its more often than not, which is why NS used to be the shit. now its just getting stupid
 
i feel like there's a whole character type attached to the insightful hip-hop movement where people who buy into it get stuck thinking that's the only thing the can listen to and nothing else is good, which is severely limiting in my opinion. it's just as much a gimmick as the mainstream thing. heck it's almost mainstream to be "underground" these days. listen to a ton of hip-hop, decide what you like, and go from there. don't let all the labels get in the way.
