I'm going to agree with eheath here for once... Lil Wayne is not a musician and his rap is not music. Unfortunately our culture nowadays is filled with dumbed-down fuckups who seem to think that rapping about "thug life" and throwing in a couple stupid similes and metaphors here and there amounts to music talent.
I stepped on a turd today, that shit reminded me of Wayne's garbage ass mixtapes. Read a book and go listen to real music... you'll thank me one day
 
Why the fuck are you guys hating on Evan for telling the truth? Lil Wayne isn't even an artist, he's a junky who doesn't even write down lyrics for his songs before recording. He records songs off the top of his head about the most generic stuff ever over the most generic beats ever.

I'd ask someone to show me an example of him being creative, but I don't want to listen to it. If Eheath is being a tool for voicing his opinion on shitty music, then I'm a tool too. Musical tools unite!

there is a different level of rap, id like to refer as hip hop, like atmosphere, zion I, brother ali, talib etc. but for RAP music, biggie, 2pac, NaS, dr dre, snoop, ice cube, old jayz, old kayne etc is the real rap, the good rap. Just like dr dre said in 1999 "So give me one more platinum plaque and fuck rap. You can have it back". chronic 2001 was the best album ever made, closed followed by illmatic. Nothing lil wayne, wiz kalifia or any other new age rap album has ever been as good and will never be. The only good "rap" that comes out anymore isn't on mtv and vh1, it doesn't play on the radio. lil wayne fucking sucks, he is the epitome of shiity ass music in our generation. i would rather listen to the incomprehensible noise people call dubstep then suffer through one lil wayne song.
 
don't compare chronic 2001 and illmatic. the latter is at a sacrosanct level that will never be touched ever again by anyone. of course that's just my opinion, but i am so serious about that cd. it's so close to being flawless!

sorry but I have to disagree with this

rap is, at its essence, rhythmic poetry. music is defined by melody, harmony, rhythm, timbre, etc. using the voice as a melodic instrument, eg singing, is music, but monotonous, rhythmic, spoken phrases are more poetry than music. nothing that weezy does constitutes musical talent, other than very basic rhythmic phrasing over 4/4 patterns, which I have seen 4 year-olds do better. also you say he says original shit, all I've ever heard weezy rap about is women, money, purple weed, and purple drank. the only original thing I've ever heard him rap about is fiji water. weezy doesn't make any of his own beats (just about the only part of his songs that are kinda musically adept), uncreative. he copies others' beats and tries to one-up them, uncreative and douchey. when will people realize music is about collaboration and not competition? music is democratic, not autocratic (ie "I am the greatest rapper ever.") weezy is a dumb, egotistical, beat-stealing fuck with a mediocre sense of rhythm at best, not a musician.

also this- dre simply doesn't compare to nas lyrically. like, at all. nas' illmatic was lyrical and rhythmic genius- dre just has a good ear for catchy beats and rhythm.

Im not in a fraternity, and I don't love lil wayne. I think he makes some good songs. I just hate you, well because your you. Everything you speak about I discredit because your simply an oversized walking turd.

To each their own, but I guess I take issue with this whole lil' Wayne is what's wrong with pop culture and rap thing. Does he make songs to cater to kids and girls? Sure. But, so has every other marginally successful rapper going back to day one. It's even more a prerequisite for success nowadays as people don't buy albums. Lil' Wayne has a huge catalog of music and has some incredibly complex, unorthodox, cadences and bars within that catalog. He may not be for everyone, but his talent is undeniable. The most telling thing is the sort of respect he garners from other mc's. People have this idea that to like lil Wayne is to not like other "real hip hop" and it just isn't true. I think some people hate lil Wayne because of the people they associate with him (teeny boppers, wannabe gangsters, etc.) sort of like how I have a knee jerk negative reaction to phish because of their fan base.

I dont know if you listen to rap a lot, but hes not stealing beats..every rapper does it. And if he takes a dope beat and wants to go in with it then why the fuck do you care? A hot beat is always going to be a hot beat.
But im not necessarily saying the subject matter is creative. More so his delivery of that subject matter. The metaphors, similes, analogies. If you can link that shit together, flow with it, have it make sense, and make me laugh at the same time, i think thats pretty creative and impressive.
Whatever I purposely posted other shit so i didnt have to argue with a bunch of people, but looks like that a done deal.
