New lift at snowbird?

any beater can easily get to all that and more from the traverse ... but the short hike back kills em

i knew they were talkin about it but they have to get it approved by the national forest and once that happens then they'll build it but probably not till next season

They proposed a tram to be built from where the current tram is to twin peaks so that whole backside would be opened up, but again its just a proposal. Still needs approval and would take a few seasons before it'd be up. but it'd be wayy sick.

That's the Pagan area. I'm not 100% on this, but I am pretty sure they actually don't own that land. I have toured out there quite a few times and it's quite obvious where their land ends and the "backcountry" begins.

it's going to be a return lift from maryellen gulch on the other side of the ridge. they're planning to build a tram (seriously, WTF?) from the top of the current tram to the top of the AF twins to access skiing that'd be similar to powder paradise or RTP, and give them close to 4K vert. they'd then build a lift below mineral basin since the skiing would reach that low, taking you back up to MB quad and out of MB. it's really a completely unnecessary move that opens a small amount of low angle alpine terrain and adds a couple worthless lifts, plus a 500 vert tram (seriously, WTF?). it'd basically be a trade with the FS, with snowbird handing over their ownership on the N side of LCC including part (or all?) of superior, for the land and permits necessary to build those lifts/terrain. not cool.

I highly doubt all of this. If anything, Gad 2 would be replaced with a quad that went higher up towards the ridge line. I wouldn't hold your breath on that either. It's more likely that Alta will build that flagstaff lift but that has met so much resistance the probably will figure out another solution to their avalanche control problem. maybe those gas pipelines like Brighton has on Milly or something

I agree and don't at the same time. Gad 2 is some of my favorite terrain at Snowbird and as much as I would love to have a shiny new quad, I'm afraid it would draw a larger crowd than it already does.

It's my favorite too but let's be honest, it's like a flashback from the 70s riding on that lift

Just wondering if anyone has heard anymore develpoments on this. I know it is a really old thread but I figured by now there might be more info on it.

Does anyone know what the deal is with all the rumors of development on the base of superior? I heard from someone they wanted to put in n alpine slide/roller coaster like the one they built in Park City a while back. I hope it's all BS.

i heard that it was a one of the other. if they want to expand and add a new lift they would have to give up plans to build a roller coaster.

Sorry for a change of subject but does the bird have a Park up this year? I'm gunna be down April 17-20th. Just curious I know u don't go to snowbird to ride park.

it depends what you mean by park. i haven't so much as glanced at it but normally they have the scariest 10 foot gaps you'll ever see.

Actually doesn't sound so terrible? They are staying away from white pine and there was no mention of a roller coaster or whatever at the foot of superior.

from what i have gathered the roller coster contraption in going in, there was an article posted on snowbirds website a little while back explaining it all.

i highly disagree, there's plenty of areas to build your own and it would just encourage more kids only looking to buy one pass to come to snowbird, which (sorry guys) we do not need one bit.

look dude, you were not here when there was a park 1. and 2. you are a newb who thinks that they spend a year at a resort and they are all of a sudden 'in' and can make retarded comments like the one above. do you know how many thousands of people frequent snowbird from the general population of the valley? a hundred or so college kids looking to save a few bucks on passes is not going to impact your precious experience at the bird.

This. It would be soo awesome to be able to ride an incredible mountain and an incredible park at the same place.

could you imagine a park in mineral basin during the spring time just like a 3 to 4 jump line with a few fun jibs would be so fun and so sunny. not to mention hot laps!
