New KNEE binding thread and info please!

Hi, I'm looking at the knee bindings and was wondering if anyone had any experience of actually skiing park in them.

I know there was a thread a few years ago which i have seen but I'm looking for more opinions from people who have actually tried them... I have picked them p and held them and they are heavy but i think they could be worth it to save an ACL if they are bearable to ride.

so, are they really that bad?

I haven't personally used the Knee binding on any ski and I haven't seen it talked about on here regarding anyone using it for skiing park. Of course there are cons to using the Knee binding, the bindings are bulky and heavy, not to mention they have a left and right binding. The whole left and right binding thing with the Knee binding sucks because you only use the same two inside edges instead of the ability to switch skis freely between the left and right foot.

From what I've seen, the bindings that come close to the Knee binding for park use are the Rossignol FKS and Look Pivot bindings because of the release of the binding when you fall.

Hope this helps you, OP.

i've used them in the park and so did a bunch of the uvm freeski guys. they worked ok, but there was a lot of pre release issues and broken brakes. they are also super high off the ski so they feel weird and the inside edges of your skis get mangled cause you can't switch which side your skis are on. On the positive note, nobody got a knee injury so I guess you could say they work for that.

Knee binding release laterally in the heel, fks do not. Yes they have a pivoting heel but that is for a different reason.

My biggest problem with knee bindings is that you can't swap skis and you are sitting really high up. My friend used them near the end of last season and never had any prerelease issues.

Apparently a lot of shops don't mount them correctly which causes a problem with prerelease though.

For an average park rider I wouldn't see them being a problem except for them sitting high and not being able to swap skis.

Mine were mounted by Knee in their headquarters in stowe, as was everyone elses on the team, So I assume they were mounted correctly

thanks for the info man. Are you still using them or have you swapped back to normal bindings? Do you think you need to try before you buy to feel the difference or is it fairly safe just to mount them up and deal with it?

I have done a lot of research so know all about them but opinions of people who have actually ridden them and know what they feel like in the park is what I need to know.

thanks all

I've actually never used them I should have said that, my bad. I can't stand when a binding is high off a ski though. I have a pair of Griffins that I hate because they just feel so high off the ski. I do have a friend that uses knee bindings that I can direct to this thread if you would like.

ah no worries. I ride griffons at the moment which I think are fine for me so if they are similar or not too much higher then griffins then I wouldn't really mind. If you could show this thread to your mate or give me his name so I can drop him a message then that would be great.

im sure he must have been pretty hesitant when getting these himself I would be interested to see what he thinks about them.
