What do you think.

Personally I think it's pretty fucking awesome. It's rare that a company or individual (sometimes it's hard to tell the difference with Joystick) can do something totally new without it feeling like a marketing gimmick.

In every joystick thread there are people who will say "poles are poles"... and as much as joystick has some of the best made, best looking ones on the market, priced fairly competitively... there's some level on which these people are right. Do you really need to spend 50+ on a pair of poles? But from my perspective, I'm glad he decided to do this with something dispensible or at least interchangeable like poles. Because when it comes down to it if you just don't "get it", then it really doesn't matter what poles you're using. It just gives the whole thing a lot more meaning if you do. The whole idea of core companies representing what we want skiing to become is sort of made into a marketing ploy a lot of the time in this industry, and that totally defeats it, doesn't it? It's made into a product; "Here, buy this, you'll have a 'core' image if you do, and that's what's cool". I just don't see that from Tony at all. The marketing bullshit, the politics, none of that is there. This won't matter to some people, I know. If you just could not care less about anything but the physical product itself, then that's fine. You're not required to care, buy what you want. But I personally can't help looking at companies like this and thinking, "that's what I want to see, that's what I want to support". I am absolutely serious when I say that of all the skiing equipment I own, my Spicollis may not be anywhere near the most practically indispensible, but they're still far and away the piece of equipment I'm most glad I have.

That's just me though.

Yeah, i think that joysticks are kinda just something for little kids to ask for for christmas and get them. I think its better just to go to slavo or a ski swap and buy poles for 5 dollars, or take them from lost and found. Spending that much money on poles its kinda ridiculous, but having them might be cool, but i would be to afraid to scrach them or break them. This is how it is with armada poles to. But, buy them if u wish is what i have to say.

That sounds like Morgan Freeman's voice at the end of the trailer. Intersting approach to the website, we'll see how it pans out.

I think that's the point though. I mean why should it be so focussed on the product? I don't know, I like that part of it.

Guy above: It is Morgan Freeman, it's a quote from Se7en.

I'm pretty sure it is.. those were all different clips from different movies, American Beauty and I think a few others couldn't tell.. the "commercial" was sorta weird.. but I like the simplicity of the new site. hoping to see some cool designs from them. if the style is sweet and original I might look into em.

its not the product, its the people behind the product and their attitude towards the progression of the sport, its not like different poles will make you a better skier, but thats not what matters

By not promoting a product -- as far as advertisment tactics go -- you are just promoting the brand name; sorta like saying the name is more important than the product. Look very closely at Nike, they use this tactic all the time.

I think this works pretty well for Joystick since expensive poles are not a neccesity.

That's an interesting way of looking at it, but do you really feel like the Joystick logo and brand name is being pushed on you looking at that site? I don't know.

i wonder why they are priced so expensive though... i mean, theyre aluminum. if they were composites, that would be different, since theyre all that price... i dont know. im not into it.

yeah. ive had my same goodes since 97. last year they finally started to splinter, but nothing a little duct tape didnt fix. but one of the straps ripped out beyond repair i think, so it will be time for some new ones... but 8 years isnt bad.

At some point someone posted the comparative prices for all 7075 Alum poles, and they were all 50-60 bucks, so at 60 Joystick isn't really "overpriced" if you look at it that way.

As for composites, there has been some talk... but as I say, when it comes to whether it's worth it, I think it's a question of what you think you're paying for.

I love my composites/carbon fiber poles, i got them for 5 bucks(normaly 95) because of this deal at our shop, because if u buy like 100 bucks, you get 10 bucks free, and i bought new skis binding and boots, so bam, good poles for 5 bucks.

why would you want carbon fiber poles? sure theyre strong, but theres no stress warning. ie, they snap without warning. like if you bend your aluminum poles a bunch, you know theyre gonna break soon, and they bend before they break. carbon poles snap and shatter, no bend. thats a little sketchy for me

I have joysticks and they are the dope shit. Rspect To Tony he needs our support to keep his company up.

At first I was kinda turned off, just a blog of a skier, no product. Just some random deep Ant thoughts.

But then I looked at it again. It's growing on me. JD made a good point with it doesn't need to be so product based. I mean if you're going to buy joysticks or plan on making the purchase, you know what the product is...Right?

I like the idea, for its simplicity. But thats just me, and JD, the Dave and everyone else who sees it.

hmmm, the site and ad are definitely interesting and somewhat thought provoking. but it's not a blog or a piece of art, it's a company. sure its nice not to have a product shoved in your face but not being able to see it at all? that's a bit overboard, and slightly pretentious i think.

I think there will be product on the site eventually. It's just not really the focus I guess.

I think the joystick site is sick.

I like the direction anthony takes, it's good to see something done differently, and something done well.

My next pair of poles will be joysticks without a doubt.

The 06-07 gear is expected to come around in April. Hence nothing being on there, as well as the the perviously mentioned stuff.

eh, its alright, a little too utilitarian though, and not enough content. if your site is going to be strictly a barebones blog, it needs more than "i love reading, read these books" and "i saw band, it was good." maybe give a brief desciption of a specific book that influenced you, and what kind of impact it had on you, or some details of the show (who you went with, what the band is like, what made it such a great show).

its a good start though, and hopefully he will build on it. its good to see a pro interacting with the masses like this.

I really like it now. First time I saw it I wasnt sure but now I like it. I do think they should at least have a picture of the product though

i like the idea of not showing the product. i would imagine that it would be far more likely for a person to be so hyped to see the product that once they finally did see it in a shop or something, they would immediately purchase it. however, i could also see someone get fed up and purchasing something else.

I'm not going to post my opinion on joystick, because well, I doubt any one really gives a shit about what I think, because I barely do about the other posts in here...

BUT, the one thing that bothers me about joystick, is the graphics. They're checkerboard. To me, checkerboard represents racing. Before joystick was started up, I was getting pretty heavily into ska, and wanted to have checkerboard on my helmet or whatever, but didn't because to me that represents racing. Them BAM, Anthony Fucking Boronowski does it and suddenly it's the shit. It still represents racing to me. Racing, people! Seriously, he's a damn good artist, I'd like to see graphics that are the ski pole equivalent of an lsd trip.

the joystick pole is art.

its a fucking pole dudes. you cant have a big ol fuckin paitning. it will look like a complete mess on a skinny ass cylinder.

joysticks are INSTANLY recognizeable. you can tell who is rocking thenm and who isnt.

the checkers are kinda racing i guess, but are simple and do not alientate as many people as a trippy graphic would.

that being said, the site sucks. obviously the company is run by a pro. started by a pro. owned by a pro. whatever. we all know that.

the real question here seems to be the quality of the product. and when we are asked to drop $80 on poles we wanna know what is so damned great about them, or at the bare minimum if they are as good as the competitor. by not addressing any of the product's features he seems to be lacking confidence in his product.

i think actual BLOGs are about as valuable as internet porn... call it good or bad, same shit...

on the other hand that ad was fuckin great.. thoguh i dont know why THX 1138 is making a come back these days... i guess people are bored. good movies in there anyway.

Haha, it looks like he is after his profile, icon, and signature change to Joystick pride.

Anyways, I think product will come eventually, when the stuff is released around April.

all i see is copyright infringement, that's $750 minimum per incident. I mean joystick probably doesn't have much money in it's bank account, but js and ab are kind of tied together they could go after him too.

i didnt watch the one on the site... but if its the same one that on the TBC extras, the song is 'talk show host' by radiohead. well, just a loop of the first few measures of it...
