gnarly cover shot, liked the japan story, no pole discusiion, long interview with seth. pretty cool. this was a very enjoyable read

this is sort of an off question, but in the article in the back of it where seth is talking about the design of his Seth model, he says he likes a black base because it is faster. wtf???? arent all bases on the same model of a ski alike. because for the different lengths of the seth the base color changes, but that should just be dyes shouldnt it? why would it go faster?
or is he just making it up and really just pwned a noob?

Another type of base that became popular about a decade ago are "black
bases." They consist of carbon black particles (5-10%) added to the polyethylene
and sintered. Carbon particles stay in the amorphous area.
The theory is that black bases will have less friction on dry cold snow
(less static electricity); and will avoid the dirt sticking to the base
on wet dirty snow (harder surface).
It's important to remember that these Black bases need to be "recharged"
occasionally with a Graphite Wax.
