well why are tricks all the same names? most names came from inline. i just think the style of rollerblading in skiing looks dope... and i know what your trying to get at...

It doesn't matter if the tricks are identical or not you jackass. The point is....a major part the roots and influence of newschool skiing come from snowboarding not in-line. Some of the current trends and tricks do come from in-line, but it has in no way affected skiing the way snowboarding has.

the direct root is that skiing used the terms and tricks used by rollerblading new school is pretty new, and all the older riders that have been in from the start all rollerbladed(the three phils), thay even admit to borrowing, back in the day.

 
i dont want skiing to turn to rollerblading but the soul plate would bring more tricks and creativty, at this point i am now goin to bed as in england its 11 oclock at night.

I think it's funny to hear skiers give more props to skateboarders and snowboarders about how they influenced skiing. It's like so many are scared to admit in-line has a role to play in skiing.

First you don't need real style or need to do kick flips (or any tech tricks...) to 'look' cool on a skateboard, you just do. But they did create grabs and all other sports in that range followed. Skateboarding is the true originator of grabs.

Second, Surfing and snowboarding did bring what style was all about and all other sports in that range followed.

Third, in-line skating is NOT the sole influence for new school, but it is it's closest relative in terms of grind possibilities, stance and rotation axis.

So whatever you say, today's skiing has been influenced by surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding and in-line skating alltogheter. There's nothing wrong with that.

Most of you guys forget, that the sport is what it is today beause of skiers who where disatisfied with skiing and brought in outside elements, to shape it to their vision of what it should be. Wether it's skating, in-line or whatever, it doesn't matter, as long as the limits are being pushed...

After all this, if you still think in-line shouldn't have a close relationship with skiing. Then you probably think the following skiers don't know what they're talking about;

Phil Belanger, Iannick B, JF Cusson, Phil Dion, Dave Crichton, Scott Hibert, Thomas Rinfret, Mike Nick, Nicky Adams, Chris Turpin and the list goes on... (there's a lot more)

These guys have either rollerbladed at one point or still do. Some have admited it in pubic and some only in private (some don't want to deal with the hater factor...). For some, skiing is like skating on snow, others it has influenced their tricks and style and a few have used in-line, strictly, to learn new tricks before applying them on skis.

I'm not trying to convert everybody to rollerblading. I'm just saying stop your paranoia and respect it for what it has contributed to skiing.

Lately, I've heard more dissing coming from skiers than skateboarders (they're actualy giving bladers more props than ever) and it sounds ridiculous when it comes from a skier.

I'll stop now before I write a novel...

 
If anything it went skateboarding to fruitbooting... then if you want to associate with skiing... skiing from skateboarding... not skiing from fruitbooting.

i dont think that rollerblading started skiing justa few of the tricks influece it, i know that slides came from snowboarding, but the tricks are basically the same as rollerblading.

D-Team makes some very good points. I agree that in-line has influenced newschool skiing. I just don't think that it has been nearly as much of a factor as snowboarding.

And Hybrid...I'm not dissing on your soul plates. More power to you for a new idea. I just don't agree with the weight you place in the influence of in-line.

most of the grabs of skiing came from fruitbooting. the mute, luikang, safty, you name it. a lot of skiing's flips came from fruitbooting too, the misty for example. show a little bit of respect towards it.

the basics of rollerblading are easier than skateboarding or skiing, but thats why its so progressive. this year at the x-games, some dood was going for a triple backflip in the vert, not too long ago a double backflip was big shit in rollerblading. progressive as hell, and triple backflips are fucking nuts.

Are you saying that a Safety came from rollerblading? I'm sure skiers have been doing that for almost as long as skiing hasd been around. I know I've been grabbing that part of my ski for as long as I've been catching air(10+years). I had'nt even heard of agressive at the time. It is one of the most stable positions to be in, while in the air.

If you would have read my post, you would understand that new school doesn't come from rollerblading and it doesn't come from snowbaording or skateboarding.

Skiing is skiing and it always will be. It's just that to be where it's at today, some pro skiers have influence themselves from many other sports, including in-line.

How else would you explain JF Cusson going to the Tazmahal skatepark to learn his flatspins? How else would you explain Turpin's progressiveness, like a fakie 720 parralel grab or fakie 540 stale in the pipe? How else would you explain the Phil's smooth style?

They've all admited the fact that in-line has influenced their riding, just like snowboarding did or whatever other sports that could inspire them.

To say that in-line is dead and idotic is just as narrow minded than saying skiing is gay compared to snowborading.

You don't have to rollerblade to apreciate in-line's contribution to skiing, just like you don't have to snowboard to apreciate it's contribution to skiing. But to deny or diss rollerblading, is like dissing some of our pro riders who have greatly influenced today's movement...
