just to get some early stoke going, the Northeast Cult might be planning a NS Tuck's invasion for the coming spring. We'll probably just chill and ski some sick lines and film, then once we get back the crew with the best vid wins!

yeah, if you want to die...... i've never skiied it, but i've hiked it...... i've read that the bowl slides out like nothing until spring starts and the snow starts to melt and pack down..........

^^^That's why you have to wait to do it until the spring. Most people dont do it until late spring because it is so dangerous.

this is my post from the Tucks cult about how to hit it up early season...

the earliest ive been up is february and it was so sick. waist deep snow and the whole bowl to my friend, his dog and me. everyone always says its stupid to go up early and ski it cause of the dangers but the truth is you have to be smart. if im planning a trip in the winter i watch the avy and weather conditions, know the wind and how cold its been and how much snow theyve gotten. based on the you go up and dig a pit. if it sucks you gotta turn around and its meant for another day. I have my level 1 avalanche certification. guys like morrison, kreitler, davenport and all them have their level 2s. and guides like Jim Conway and Dean Cummings have level 3 which is mandatory to be a guide. personally i think its more dangerous to hit it up late season cause of all the undermined snow. and its wayyyy better if you feel comfortable in knowing what you know. im not gonna say its totally safe cause things can always go wrong. ive gotten caught in two good slides and it scared the shit outta me. but i will take a shitty day at tucks over a good day in the park, whenever.

yeah, I agree that if you're smart about it and you don't do anything really stupid, it can be really fun. But I've been caught in a slide before and taken under and it wasn't at all pleasurable, so i'd rather not take the chance of having that happen again just to ski Tucks...

these two:

11-29-2002 Thomas Burke 46 Tuckerman Ravine died in avalanche

11-29-2002 Scott Sandburg 32 Tuckerman Ravine died in avalanche

i was up there about just less than an hour after it happened. fuckin crazy shit. the story goes, Thomas Burke and this other guy were climbing on thje right side of the bowl. the other guy was leading and tom was belaying him. he was up about 250-350ft and he started traversing left, which is a big no no because of the unstable snow. so he traverses a bit of it and the snow cracked. some how the guy who was leading stayed above the crown and didnt fall. the slide killed his partner and some other random guy who was there. pretty shitty.

My friend and i were on our way up the trail as this happened and when we heard a the crack we knew something had slid but had no idea. we decided just to go up to the bowl to check it out and maybe ski a safer line if it was ok. After i got there both bodies had been found and there was debris every where. After eveything happened people were talking wether the guys knew what they were doing and if they should even have been there. in my opinion from what i heard of their story i think there was no problem beign there, the guy who was leading just fucked up. thast it, plain and simple, a dumb mistake. and that incident really proved to everyone in the valley, how easy it is to make a mistake and have people lose their lives

wow, i didn't know that NH had backcountry. I'm gonna say that Colorado BC is a little more dangerous, but still that sucks that all those people have died up there. I had a friend die in an avalanche a couple of years ago, right near Crested Butte. It's scary stuff, that a reason why I'm also Level 1 certified. Be smart this winter/spring.

Youd be surprised how dangerous Mt Washington is, I've been up there in the huts and there have been a few times when the crew had to go out and find people who had gotten lost. It's not as tame as you would think, even compared with all the shit out west. It also has the highest recorded wind speed in the world, like 256 mph or soem shit.

Yeah, Mt. Washington has the worst weather in the world (At least the worst recorded weather).

If you're up there during a storn (or even when it just starts to blow in) you're fucked. it's a tricky place...

ive seen 3 feet of snow there in may, and fresh.

another time, i went there once and when we got to the house or whatever, i went from 70 degrees to 40 degrees in a liek 10 minutes, it was insane
