We've been hard at working making a next level video & picture gallery, and I'm happy to announce we are nearly ready. I know this change has been mentioned severl times before, but we really are getting close to launch. We expect to launch around the end of May or early June.

The new galleries were built to be easiser to use, faster and more customizable. We've tried to improve just about every aspect of the galleries from the uploader, media manager, NSTV channels, etc... Check out some of the screenshots and descriptions below.

** NOTE: We aren't done! The screencaps below are fully working, but not polished. The gallery will loook prettier when it's actually ready :)

Picture / Video Gallery Browsing

Here is a smple of browsing for Picutres in the global picture gallery. Note that Search hasn't yet been added. Also, on the rights ide are a list of channels. The galleries now have links for going directly to the Video, NSTV or Picture sections.

Watching A Video

When you watch a video or view a picture, the Playlist will show you other media from that channel, or you may pick other channels.

Member Channels

If you are asking what a Channel is, basically it's a group of media any member can make. You will no longer have to save your media to one of 10 categories like today. You can instead make custom Channels and sort your media in those! Here is a screenshot of my personal profile with 3 custom channels.

NSTV

Here is an improved NSTV page. The channel listing on the right will show all the current premium channels, as well as all member channels too. So YOU get to be in NSTV!

More New Features

- Any member may make channels. You can have as many as you want. They will all show up in your profile gallery.

- There is no Private / Public option anymore. Instead, uploaded media is default Private. When you tag media to a channel, it's automatically made Public. If you remove that media from it's last channel, it's made Private again.

- Any Picture and Video you upload can go in your gallery. If you upload a video to a video contest, or a picture to a review, you will see them in your media manager and can put those into channels!

- Shared Channels are available for members to contribute to. A shared channel are like the ones you see in the first screenshot. Cults will also have galleries that cult members may contribute to!

- The picture & video uploader will tell you how long you have left for your upload! When uploading pictures, you may even select multiple pictures at the same time for faster uploading. (Safari, Firefox and Chrome Only).

- Videos will now be encoded in 720p HD and served from a Yahoo certified CDN (Content Delivery Network), so streaming videos will always be fast and reliable!

Your Media Will Be Kept

The last thing is that all your existing media will be kept when we launch the new galleries! Your pictures and videos will be copied over and made Private / Public as appropriate. We will also be updating all the blog posts, forums posts, etc... to link to the new media instead of the old galleries.

Also, any videos uploaded in the last few months will be transcoded to 720p. ;)

Looks like a lot of hard work went into this. Can't wait until the launch. I really like the channels/favorites addition.

Are 3rd party video players still available for uploading?
 
Well this is crazy, looks fantastic. I'm excited to get a camera for the summer so I'll be able to make use of this.
 
Yes, but there are a few limitations.

The new system differentiates between Embeds and Videos, unlike today where they are mashed together.

The reason for this is so we can make playlists and automatically cycle through a channel since we know it's only video files.

But you can still upload Embed code, and you can still put them into channels.

I'm still unclear with that Private/Public thing. So when the change comes, all my Private pics will remain so, and my Public pics will be automatically made into a "Mike-O's pictures" channel?
 
Yes, Private pics will still be private.

The new gallery doesn't have "categories" anymore, but instead has channels. And as metioned, some of those channels are shared so any member may contribute to them.

So for example, if you had 3 pictures in the Pipe cateogry of todays Gallery, those 3 pictures will be made public and linked to the Pipe channel of the new gallery.

 
hell yea, but can we get notified when a subscription or channel we like uploads somthing new???

Can you guys put in an MHSSC camp forum section with this update? Is there any possibility?
 
that is awesome!!
one thing that i think would be sick on for vids (kinda like on porn sites) when you scroll over it with your mouse different screen shots from the video appear. just an thought
 
how about NO! why do we need a whole section devoted to mhscc?? it will only get used in the summer and by very few people. make a cult or somthin
 
Those forums are buried so deep in the navigation of this site very few people know about them. Hence why you see 100+ Windells thread in the lead up to summer.
 
Sadly that is actually a separate issue on the site. "notifications" is something that we have never really had, and therefore its a separate thing we'll have to build.

We wanted to add that feature to the galleries, but its a bigger issue than simply sliding it in - its more of a site wide problem.

We're getting the galleries out, and will be working on a lot of tweaks and improvements like this over the summer.

 
Why do we need a whole section devoted to Windell's?

Doesn't matter, though. Already heard it's going in with the update.
 
So if I remember correctly, bishop said around the time this thread was made, we'd have new video section in couples weeks... so when should we expect it?
 
Hah - we're making sure its perfect before it launches. We're wrangling the user interface a bit right now. Might still be a few weeks lol.

I guarantee you though... it will get finished.

 
If we hated you guys we wouldn't be working our asses off to make sure we give you something awesome! The fact that it's taking so long is we don't want to drop something incomplete

I think the new galleries hate us.

 
I saw what you did there roughly three days ago, but I feel the need to tell you now. Also I want this thread at the top.
 
dunno if this is too much to ask, but why not make all older pictures/videos private as well...

you could do it like this for the next update:

everything that is currently public remains public

then when someone logs in to NS, they get a message that all their shit has been turned private and they need to select what media they want to become public again.

so we get the advantage that the older, now no longer active members that uploaded quality/historical stuff back in the day will remain in the NS archives without a problem, but all active NSers will need to revise their shit before having it put back into public ...

i personally don't see much problems with that + it'd thoroughly clean out the picture/video sections on NS ...
 
fuck yeah, I do'nt know if i like the acutall player look. Like the play, pause, volume and stuff. but other then that it looks good and can't wait.

That's a quick capture of the player. Progress is being made, albeit a bit slow.

Still not going to launch this until its ready, so hang tight.

It probably won't blow people away right off the bat. There was a ton of back end changes that were made... so we tried to not drastically alter the video experience.

We just wanted to take what was there and fix as many of the issues as we could.
