New FKS broken?

I just got a delivery of some new fks but I'm not sure if something is wrong one of the heal pieces.The hinge at the red circle requires heaps of forces to move. Is this right, will this even work.

Nope, it's common, they'll move much easier when mounted, it wont move easily now because there's no leverage against it, the ski will provide that leverage. Also, BE CAREFUL when fooling around with unmounted FKS bindings, it's quite easy to get your finger caught in there, which usually doesn't do much damage to your finger, but hurts like hell.
 
Dammit... Fuck mobile. It's a bitch to get your finger out of there once the binding closes on them. There was a thread last year about people getting fingers stuck in there
 
i was messing with my bro's fks's and got my thumb stuck in the heel. hurt so fucking bad! i lost my goddamn thumbnail
 
mine is going to fall off, and yeah, it was soooooo painful. I was running around my house with it stuck to my thumb trying to find some way to get it off. It was a 185 too, at like din 13.
 
hahaha same here. i ran to my brother, and instead of pushing down to release it, he was pulling up. hurt so bad
 
hahahhahah I can just picture a dude running around his house with this burly ass heal piece hanging off his hand while his family looks at him like he is retarted.
 
I got my finger stuck in a pair last year while sitting in my office and playing with them on my desk. It fucking hurt!

im supprised i didnt get my finger in mine, have them for like 5 months unmounted and looking at them everyone and a while, ahaha
 
Good to hear i'm not the only FKS owner who has made that mistake. But yes there should be quite a bit of resistance in that interface especially when there not mounted up. I would worry if there was play there.
 
i had sooo many problems with them when i first got them. the shop that i got them mounted at did it terribly
 
It's strange that one heel is so stiff and the other heel moves easily.

I hope that they mount them right when I go in. I will have to make sure they know how to use the stickers.

It can, it's just much less likely to happen because of how you hold it. Usually your finger gets stuck because you're trying to pop the binding up so you're holding the one part of the heelpiece down while pulling the other up and your finger gets caught in there. I've seen/heard of people getting caught in there other ways, but I've really only heard of it happening with unmounted bindings, but I suppose it could happen after mounting.
 
my tragedy was with mounted fks's, so it was even harder running around the house trying to find something to get the binding off

the only time i've ever fainted was getting my finger stuck in one. It was crazy, snapped shut, didn't feel any pain but i just stood there looking at finger stuck in something that there was no way a finger should fit into. i managed to pry the damned thing using my cheek and my other face with some kind of super human power and stood there looking at the unreal indent in my finger - i could literally see where my bone was. next thing i knew i woke up on the floor with a chipped tooth, apparently i hit my face on the table on the way down. Moral is, watch out for fucking FKS.
 
Those mounting stickers? That's for do-it-yourself mounting action. Most shops will have an adjustable metal jig for mounting.
 
the pain is just so intense that you cant feel anything when the adrenaline kicks in. my thumb was squeezed so tight that the skin pretty much exploded and left a big flap of skin. and then my whole thumb was spotted red for 3 days, and then the nail turned purple and fell off. this is my story.
 
Thats the second best FKS story I've heard. The best was the one where the kid posted about how he snapped his hand in one, then ran into a supermarket screaming and asking for a screwdriver and everyone thought he was psycho or something.
 
it's almost like an pivot/FKS initiation ritual. you don't deserve to ski that binding until you've gotten a finger snapped shut in one. it might be the single most painful injury i've sustained from skiing. it hurt worse than collapsing my lung.
 
I guy I worked with caught his thumb once. He was tuning a pair of his DH skis at the end of his shift. As he was closing the heel to check his forward pressure, his thumb got caught between his boot and the heel piece, and locked in. DIN was set at 15, and the ski was camped in the vise. It was his right hand, and the release for the vise was three feet to his right, so he couldn't get the ski out. He was the only one in the shop, and it was 2am.

He was stuck there all night until someone came in to work in the morning.
