New fd wear edit

I'm not saying they get a permit. I mean you can be safe without a permit... just like people who do urban rails. The speed at which they're jumping over stuff they could kill a pedestrian... but they spot and make sure there isn't anyone there. Sure that isn't perfect hollywood control... but hey...

My question though is just WHY we all need to grab the pitchforks? I mean did you ever watch the original Whiskey videos in skateboarding / snowboarding? Those were super gnarly and fun... shit that was completely over the line (see earlier in the thread). It was nuts shit that guys were doing, and it was the heartbeat of an aggressive young movement.

The negative reaction that a partial minority of super loud voices is having just astounds me. I don't know why we can never shake the fact that skiing has been a stick-up-the ass sport since the original freestyle movement collapsed. I mean I watch Boozy the Clown in the Whiskey videos and I see a shithead riding a motorcycle through an open supermarket. I want to say "wow, what an asshole" but I sit there realizing that HALF of all skiers quit skiing and started snowboarding.

Why?

Because snowboarding didn't have a fucking stick up its ass.

Live and let live. A while back I would've hated, but then I realized skiing's about having fun. Did that look like fun? Fuck yeah. Who's to say you can't do fun things?

I'm going to put something that I posted earlier in this thread up, as I felt it was a good point that isn't getting re-read.

_____

My theory is that it was the loss of Freeze magazine that caused this.

People seem to have totally forgotten that we used to have super raw, core, don't-give-a-fuck, stupid roots. I mean shit... the whole reason this movement happened is we claimend that the sport was too stuck up and boring.

Freeze was absolutely 100% silly and stupid all the time. However, it was fun and covered a certain aspect that we were all missing - that totally wild punk deep within us.

I mean look at the old whiskey videos in skate and snow. That shit was retarded, and it was the reason that HALF of the people that ski quit for snowboarding. How could people forget Boozy the Clown?

I mean fuck... that was what MADE skateboarding and snowboarding. We all were sitting there racing, doing aerials and trying to be level 4 ski instructors with the perfect turns.... and we realized what we were doing was fucking lame.

If you think skiing has a stick up its ass, you have not been paying attention. I think the part you missed was none of the shit the FD guys did was funny in any way shape or form, it was just stupid.

There is plenty of humor, often crude, involved in skiing, the FD idiots, missed that part in their stunt. Instead they came off as dumb rich white kids with to much money and not enough sense.

I've been paying quite a bit of attention, and I've been following it closely as a career from the very start.

Listen - you may not like what they're doing. I get that. Fine - you can have your opinion. What I would like to hear though, is what do you suggest is the fun-loving stuff in skiing that is raw, challenges the norm, etc? I'm super curious to hear.

Finally though, almost everything (save racing and mathematics) is completely subjective. I mean there is absolutely no way to be objective about this video, so at a certain point if one isn't bringing more facts to the table, then we aren't arguing about anything other than opinion anymore.

Your latest post only talks about how this video is stupid, and that there is other humor.

So we're now at the point where we can realize you don't like it, I have given fact that it was conducted in a safe manner, and you have suggestions for other things that are boundary breaking.

Suggest them, so we can be educated on some new super awesome things in the sport! (No sarcasm either, seriously)

Anyone who thinks that is abnormally dangerous gun use has never spent much time in the rural midwest. Get out of the house children.

Yeah... thats my point. This absolutely was not filmed in one day... I mean come on.

This took them like a week to film.

WHen you're sitting there thinking this is reality... just imagine a person holding the camera in each shot. It'll help give perspective.

This is the image we have cause for skiing, we need REAL skiers like Tanner back. They're the rebels that make the sport cool.

Well, I did this backwards and read ALL the comments BEFORE watching haha. Lots of good arguments for and against the video. That being said, I was forewarned on what to expect. It's hard for me to be negative because I like David and FD alot!! From the beginning....I liked how the girls nips were covered with an FD symbot...keepin it clean:) I enjoyed the flying scenes, as I know David is an accomplished pilot! The skiing and brapping was awesome, and I liked the music throughout. I"m a Gucci and Gorilla Zoe fan haha.

On the down side, as others have mentioned, it is a shame that guns, and the shooting of them, had to be in the edit. It looked to real to be shooting blanks, so I'd hate to think real bullets where being shot aimlessly. What if Bambi were in the woods!!

Anyway, that's my critics corner. Good night:)

This, and using it as a starting point. It seems there are a lot of hypocrites in here that are hopping on Bishop's bandwagon (I'm not saying he's wrong, merely that people are coming forth because of his posts), but when other more mainstream athletes do this kind of thing it is condemned by most of the members. Whenever Tanner does anything that varies from being a white kid from Montana, everybody gives him shit and hates on him. Nobod ever says "Can't you take a joke" about that. And on top of that, he actually fucking slays on all fronts. Not saying Lesh doesn't, but it you think this image is missing why condemn those in the spotlight to show it?

It's easy to praise this content when only the select members of NS will see it and the brand is marketed this way. Its another thing to support this if it was mainstream media. What if it was a Northface edit?

Bishop is dead on with skiing having a stick up its ass. Who really gives a fuck what these dudes are doing? You people make me hate the ski community due to that fact you care so much about how other people act, dress and present themselves. It's a joke . Have fun arguing about shit on the Internet.

This edit does not represent anything that skiing is about, absolutely nothing. This edit only appeals to people of low intelligence, or immature younger people.

Nothing featured in this edit was funny, or cool for that matter. I didn't look fun either, it looked like try hard stupidity. The Whiskey movie's were fucking stupid too, don't try to condone retard behavior like that.

The creators of this edit basically took a bunch of rap music video cliches, ripped them off and threw some sub par skiing in between, nothing original or creative to be found here.

I will do my part to help fdwear wear slowly fade away into bankrupcy, and you can all do the same. Don't give any of your hard earned money to these clowns. Or, don't ask your parents to give this company any of their hard earned dollars.

This edit would be better if there was less gun shooting/pointless (shitty) drifting, and more focus on unique and progressive tricks instead of the same old shit.

Because at the end of the day, FD is a ski company. The skiing, more than anything, is what is important, and that skiing left me substantially underwhelmed.

The best thing about this edit is that it was clearly made with one idea in mind: "this is going to make Newschoolers.com explode." And it did. So hats off for that.

PS fuck all of you

How much do YOU really know about the oncoming traffic? You keep talking about arguing with the facts, but most of the points you are arguing with are speculation or hyperbole. Also how can you say there was NO danger?

Yes, drifting a car on a snowy road, even with a "buddy spotting", is more dangerous than taking a somewhat blind jump because the consequences are greater. I would argue that, in general, a car accident is more likely to have much worse consequences than a ski accident.

How can you say drifting a car on a snow covered road with other cars on it is a "very controlled environment" it sounds pretty close to the opposite, but that is just me I guess.

I understand that you personally know the owners of FD wear and thus have a completely different perspective of the video than the rest of us. Personally, I had never heard of Lesh & Co. until this video and I think that this is where much of the debate and controversy about this video stems from.

When I watched this video, I saw a spoiled, immature "CEO" of a ski company going out and doing some pretty stupid and irresponsible shit with his friends. Everybody likes to have fun (well most people at least), but isn't there a line that needs to be drawn about where the fun stops and the stupidity begins? If I was along the side of the road or saw them driving past, I would have no clue whether or not they were shooting blanks or bullets, I may be naive about guns, but I would wager that most people would respond similarly. Also, why did Lesh need to waste all the gas and pollute the environment by flying to Breck when it probably takes a similar amount of time to drive there after going through all the pre-flying procedures, etc.? Shouldn't the owner of a ski company be environmentally conscious as their company depends on it?

When you saw the video, you most likely saw your buddies going out and having a good time in a responsible way because you know their personalities and behaviors and what they would and wouldn't do.

My biggest problem with the video though, is that undoubtedly people from outside of the freeskiing community or newschool ski movement will see the video (TGR folk, Unofficial networks readers, etc.) because it is so over the top and has gotten so much attention. They would most likely find the actions in the video even more ridiculous, childish, naive and stupid than I did because they do not have an understanding at all of newschool skiing culture. This video then serves only one purpose to those outside of the freeskiing movement, to further alienate those who are not in it and give those who are a worse reputation.

I am sure you saw the video earlier this year of the kids who were shredding along the side of a groomer, perfectly safely, when an older ski patrol member stopped them and proceeded to swear and yell at them in a ridiculous and over-the-top manner, almost taking their passes. It is my opinion, you are welcome to disagree (and I would not be surprised if you do), that a video like this could have affected that man's perception of those kids and caused him to react the way he did. Personally, I have been skiing safely and in complete control many times, but have been yelled at by ski patrol who say I am going to fast or am out of control. I would argue that they react that way because of the clothes I wear and the perception that all park skiers are bad for their mountain, while if an old racer bro blew past them in his tuck, they may not have the same reaction.

lesh got this email

Hey David,

What the hell were you thinking when you made that video? yet again you make another video where you deface property and just come off like a complete ass. I have never thought about buying FD but now i can guarantee you I will not.

1. Whoever let you purchase a gun was completely out of their mind, do they not remember your bomb threats?

2. You and your "friends" obviously think it is cool to go around with a gun shoved down your pants, do you realize that it is assholes like you that make liberals want to take my rights away to own a gun.

3. Why are you obsessed with being black? give the grills a break, maybe you should go get some plastic surgery, the next michael jackson, I wouldnt be surprised if you get caught in the same type of scandal he did.

4. Your a rich white guy who was supported by mommy and daddy, you own a plane, stop trying to act ghetto.

I really hope this inspires your future actions.

he replied with this

Hey Ryan, thanks for your email. You sound like a really unhappy, close-minded, frustrated kid, I'm sorry for that. My friends and I on the other hand are having the time of our lives and lead very successful, fulfilling, wonderful lives. You might find it interesting that I grew up dirt poor in India and have never been given anything in my life. So, if it's OK with you, I'll keep doing what I'm doing and allow you to whatever the hell you want, I could care less.

now you all know he is not a trust fund baby and i find it halarious that he bought in the bomb threat

Word Lesh! BTW, has anyone been a member of this forum longer than him or I on this thread? If you are then you have seen all the old school videos and gotta laugh at all the hate put towards one edit. It was produced to be over the top and wild!

haha wow. here's an idea, go ski

How does everyone know they wern't driving on closed streets with their friends in other cars to give the illusion of reckless driving. How do you know they wernt shooting blanks into the woods, or firing in an area approved by local law enforcement? This edit was obviously well funded and planned...and it obvious troll.

For whatever it's worth, Lesh grew up in India broke as fuck. He came from nothing and no one has ever given him a thing in life. You could learn a thing or two.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

for some reason I missed the resemblance.

"Born in Chicago, Illinois, I moved to India with my family around my first birthday. Years later, the political undrest caused by the Gulf War forced us to move to Madison, Wisconsin. My love for skiing began in middle school at Tyrol Basin, a 200 vertical foot hill nestled between cow pastures half an hour from home. A normal ski day began at 8:00am and went late into the night, skiing under the lights"

So let me get this straight.

He was 16 in 2001, the first gulf war started 2 Aug 1990, making him ~5 years old. So he spent ~4 years in India.

His family was broke, which is why they could afford plane tickets from Chicago to Delhi in 1986 when he was one, and then due to the tension caused by the gulf war, they bought plane tickets again in 1990/1991 and flew to Madison Wisconsin.

The tension in idea in 1990 and 1991, was due to a heavy financial strain on the economy. While the spike in oil prices during the short first Gulf War helped, looking back on the indian financial history indicates that these problems were developing throughout the 1980's, so it is their own stupid fault for moving to India in 1986.

Traveling from Chicago to India, is not one of those things 'poor' people do... And spending 4 years of your early child hood in India does not qualify as 'growing up' there. No, he grew up in Wisconsin.

If they were just riders making edits trying to be all G then I wouldnt give a fuck.

but this is the last way the owner of a company should be portraying himself.

SURE ITS A JOKE HE SAYS BUT BY SAYING A JOKE WONT KEEP ALL THE BUSINESS HES GOING TO LOSE. maybe he wont loss business but he lost mine.

and lol at him for him trying to defend himself saying he was poor in india. no one gives a fuck haha your still white, doesnt give you any excuse to act black.

o wait i forgot, i would love to order my next years outerwear from these guys. maybe my jacket will have bullet holes, smell like liquor and have some burnt doobie holes? sick.

I smoke, drink blah blah etc. but that is the last way I would show myself If i owned a company like his.
