New & Faster Video Encoder!

This week we're rolling out our new video encoder. What does that mean for you? More file formats supported and much faster video processing time with speed ups of up to 10x from our previous service. As mentioned in other Site Discussion threads, we previously had quite a few set backs and people's edits were taking up to a few days before went live. The new service will be much more stable and should eliminate any congestion in the future.

Please if you have any issues or problems with the new service, report back here in this thread and we will take a look!

does this affect custom thumbnails not syncing across NS/embeddable sites? In the past it seems like sometimes the player seems to reject a custom thumbnail and resort back to the default it chooses no matter how many times you try and force the updated thumbnail. For consistency sake it'd be awesome to trust the thumbnails again

The new encoder gives slightly more thumbnail selection options for longer videos! However, the issue you're discussing here I have not encountered recently, nor has other members since I've seen them manually set the thumbnail. This is all on NS, for embeddable sites, I have not tested that, if you have a good example, please let me know :)

a good example and something that happens on almost everything I or accounts I work with upload is when you pick a custom thumbnail on NS and go to post on facebook, facebook will always choose the original thumbnail despite there being an updated custom one. No amount of re-uploading/waiting seemed to fix that

Hey man i just tested this on my facebook with a video with custom thumbnails and it works perfectly fine! Feel free to PM me i if you run into this issue again in the future and I can take a closer look

I still have an issue with uploading, not sure if it is a resolution/frame rate/format issue but I tried this summer to upload a video and it took days to encode (if it ever did), and would even not finish encoding by the time it was scheduled for publication. The same thing happened the past couple days with two attempts at uploading, without ever finishing encoding or showing the video in my profile’s “videos waiting to be published” section. Is there still some sort issue? I will try again in a few days but I still have not had a successful video upload direct to NS.

Hey so we recently switched over to the new encoder (about 2 weeks back) so the issue you had with the long encode time (up to days) were on the old encoder. If you recently have tried to upload the video and it failed, then it's more than likely a video formatting issue on your end. Generally we support a broad range of video formats (even webm!) but if you upload something with a weird codec then it will fail.

I took a look at the encoding history and only one video had failed encoding within the last week or so (and it was uploaded by someone else). If you can link me the video that failed to encode I can take a closer look.

is there an issue with uploading right now? I've had something that should have taken

edit: forgot you can't put a greater/less than symbol. But I've had something that should have taken less than 2 min to upload been sitting for hours. Glad to hear the issue is known
